That's really not the same thing.
I know, the screens in controllers they are doing now are much improved, but N isn't the first.This would give 3rd parties more incentive to take advantage of the controller in meaningful ways and not just a nice little feature.
I imagine that the 360 pad can still be used for MP games and such, much like the Wiimote.

That's really not the same thing.
The VMU was an extension of the controller that displayed status, menu, items.. And you could use it separately for independent games.. It's not the exact same thing, however it could be called the precursor to the Wii-U/720 tablet.
