It looks good but it doesn't look far beyond what I'm playing now. Take into account a $1000 card struggles to hit 1080p 60fps on those settings it seems like a lot of horsepower for something that doesn't make a massive difference.

for likely longer than a decade the price point 'sweet spot' is $200 and $400. If you pay more than $400 for a video card you are paying too early and should wait 6 months or so for those cards to hit the sweet spot. Because your ROI after $400 drops quickly.
once you see the pattern its fairly simple to follow
@tryit: At this rate the time a $400 card runs that at max settings and playable framerates will be what ?5 years from now?

same rule applies to 'max settings'
basically run everything and have all hardware at about 70% of top of the line. because the top tier at any given time the ROI decreases quickly.
It would be easier for me to explain on a white board how this works.
@recloud: no but DF already did this in 2013, for $500 you could build a pc with a 750ti that beats the PS4. Then instead of $400 to upgrade you could’ve spent $220 on a 8gb RX 480 and be better off than you would’ve been going the ps4/ps4 pro route.
@slimdogmilionar: thanks, but no thanks, I'd still rather the $400 that'll last the whole generation (or even better, the $350 or $300 when they get their mandatory price cut) than the $500~720 PC plus the mandatory GPU upgrade since the $500 PC won't last till the end of the generation.
I'd rather spend that money on the actual games.
@kali-b1rd: mid gen upgrades are not necessary, the base consoles run the games fine on a 1080p TV. Nice goalpost move again lol.
Saying you're a enthusiast is pointless to the debate since most of the PC gamers are not enthusiasts and don't have the money to be, goalpost movement again lol.
And lol talking about the PS4 pro on 2022, this is completely lame and not related, PS4 pro was never the subject of the conversation, goalposts movements again lol
LMAO
You got owned by your spinning and deflection.

Why doesn't a PC bought at the beginning of a generation not last the generation again?

DF also shown PS4 beating 750 Ti in Doom 2016.

What was the performance of the PC as an average across many games? Better or worse than the PS4 in terms of performance?
this thread takes me back 20 years..literally...the same arguments over and over..never changes..
Yup, PC having the best gfx never changes.
PC being more expensive never changes.
But generally Consoles become more expensive over time :D

So what was that thing you guys did this gen... Oh yeah, bought mid-gen refresh consoles for an extra 500 bucks on top of the first console. Yeah, that's right. Please. Don't try to say that PC gaming is that much more expensive than staying up with the current console tech now-a-days. Just like PC, you can buy the weak ass hardware and stick with it; you may just have crappy fps and graphics.
@DragonfireXZ95: just checked out the video, I won't lie those are some nice color effects. They did a nice job with the graphics on it. No way you can compare pc graphics to console graphics.. they knock them out the park everytime. They better when you pay an arm and a leg for a video card.

Unless you kept your XB or PRO up to date. Then even your 1 advantage of price point kinda went away, combined with online charges.
One of my pals has this outrageously expensive rig.
And his monitor is like 20 inches!
so, all that power, and he cannot really enjoy it because his display is so tiny!
Typical PC gamer morosity.

For Witcher 3, PS4 is similar to stock 750 Ti.
And you can't beat console prices. So that's that.
It's incredibly depressing this is such an important point to console supporters; it becomes borderline devastating when you factor in that it's arguably the only positive to consoles these days. As you said, "that's that". Indeed, that is "that"...and only that.
How do you feel about people that drive quality cars instead of used Honda Accords? Or pay a premium for higher quality meat and produce to eat? Do you think the guy eating Twinkies has it better than the guy who payed ten times the price for a tasty pastry from a talented local baker, simply because he payed less?
Not too long ago people here where wondering if next gen consoles would be able to catch-up to PC, some even thought the the ps5 leak meant that PC’s would be no match/ irrelevant.
Speculation is gone so now it’s time for them to switch the argument back to console price point....Well you get what you pay for I guess.
Exactly.
They really don't have any other argument, which isn't really much of an argument. It's more of an admission if inferiority.
A bunch of useless features to be honest. You won't even notice any of that when actually playing the game and to even see the benefits of ray tracing, you need to look at side by side comparisons.
I've had my GTX 980 for about five years. It still performs well. I plan to have it well into 2019.
I know ray tracing isn't common now, but it will be, and probably a helluva lot sooner than five years. More than enough time for people to get plenty of use out of their currently-unused, but soon-to-be-used tech features.
@recloud: wtf, you saying that a gpu bought at the beginning of the console generation won’t last the whole gen? Consoles can’t keep up with any gpu released at the beginning of this gen, and you can get games way cheaper on PC than on console.
You guys still waiting for next gen consoles to get true 4K and in 2018 still don’t have 60fps standard. You pay to have devs tell you how you should play your games. Why have a hobby if someone else dictates what’s good for you and what’s not?
