I don't know how many of you care about this but it relates to SG Worlds and the marketing of the game.

The big announcement of the day was, as you may have guessed, the reveal of its new race cars. Drivers Frankie Muniz (of "Malcolm in the Middle" fame) and Simona De Silvestro took the wraps off Mazda's newest Atlantic Series open-wheel cars, which they'll drive together as part of Team Stargate Worlds, sponsored by the company behind the new Stargate Worlds online computer game. De Silvestro is an up-and-coming talent who has already made her mark by becoming the first woman in Atlantic Series' history to win a race. Muniz, meanwhile, always attracts attention thanks to his background in acting, which he's given up to pursue a career in racing. He told reporters at the lunch that his goal is to one day pilot a Le Mans prototype car.

I think this is pretty cool. I didn't know Muniz had quit acting to race fulltime, and the sponsorship of a race car shows there is at least some financial stability at Cheyenne Mountain. And a lot of car guys are secretly geeks so it might be a smart move.

still over a year!, I thought it was coming out this year. 

Money is running out for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, and a new lawsuit isn't helping matters much.

The Mesa, Ariz., developer is the company behind the massively muti-player online role playing game "Stargate Worlds," which was introduced with a lot of fanfare at last year's Comic-Con in San Diego, but since has been in a financial crisis.

The latest to pile on is IO Capital Princess LLC, which claims it's owed an unspecified amount in an "unpaid open account," according to The Escapist magazine. The company already was struggling to pay its employees, but many stayed on hoping Cheyenne Mountain could find the funding it was looking for.

Instead, it could be the beginning of the end for "Stargate Worlds" if Cheyenne is not able to cough up the money.

"We have always been upfront with the media and our fans that we are a startup," Kevin Balentine of Cheyenne Mountain told reporters back when it struggled to pay employees. "Like many startups, we face the same cash-flow issues that all pre-revenue companies face."

Not helping matters right now is a recessed economy and tight credit markets, meaning that Cheyenne's business prospects are limited mostly to private investors or venture capital firms willing to take a risk on an MMORPG, an industry that itself has struggled to find too many successes outside of "World of Warcraft."

The game, according to Cheyenne's Web site, will allow ranged combat, stealth, exploration using Stargates for instant travel, and player accessibility with options for crafting and research for non-combat game play. It will be based on "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate: Atlantis," but not on "Stargate: Universe," at least not initially.

No release has been set for the game, and it's unclear what stage of development it's in.

This just sucks, now a lawsuit!  Man, I was hoping that this would be out soon, noiw that TR is dead, but it looks like I'll have to wait for The Old Republic.

If it is next spring then this would make sense for a race car since by next season it would likely already be on the shelves. Although at least then they would have the game out for purchase.

The first race is today, and then the 12 hours at Sebring is tomorrow.

Wright talks Stargate Worlds delay

This week GateWorld asked Stargate executive producer Brad Wright about the current status of the game — and the franchise's lack of a title in the multi-billion dollar video game industry. (Wright and fellow Stargate executive producer Robert C. Cooper have been serving as creative consultants on the title.)

"We don't know," Wright told GateWorld, regarding the future of Stargate Worlds. "It's a shame. If it doesn't happen — and, let's be honest, it should be happening now if it was happening. It's a shame. It's a terrible shame.

"They had an opportunity and they got our support, and they obviously had significant funding, and it didn't happen. It's kind of a drag for the fans and the time that we invested — what little of it there really was, in comparison to what they did — was still a shame that it was wasted, because it should have happened."

Stargate Worlds hit financial trouble last year, and according to reports was unable to pay its employees for several months. The anonymous Web site days-since-cheyenne-mountain-employees-have-been-paid.com was taken offline within the last few weeks. The company was seeking new investors when that story broke — an effort which may have faced even greater hurdles when the economy went south in the fall.

Meanwhile, the game's production studio, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, is being sued by a data center business called IO Capital Princess for an unpaid account, according to the Arizona Business Gazette.

Now fans are wondering if the studio will be able to finance the game to its completion, when it can finally see some income from customers.

The official status of Stargate Worlds, according to Cheyenne Mountain, is that the game is still development and will be released as planned. But the fact that it is now April of 2009 and the game is not out — nor has any firm release window been announced — is troubling. The game's official Web site, however, continues to remain silent on the studio's financial problems and the widespread concern over the game's fate.

GATEWORLD

It's unfortunate. I know they haven't given any confirmation that the game is or isn't coming out, but still, it just doesn't look good. I've been wondering about this for a long time. I think the problem is that the developers and marketing people aren't doing their job properly. I've seen more screenshots, gameplay videos, and trailers for other games that are a lot further off. If you don't show off what you've accomplished so far then why would anyone want to support you and fund your projects? They've basically cut off their own legs.

Why is stargate cursed? lol Im sure the actors are tired of lending thier voices for games that never see the light of day. Although honestly the gameplay had me a bit worried. The more trailers i saw the less i liked of it. By the time SGW comes out blizzard will probably have Diablo III out and maybe another WoW expansion which would really say alot at how slow CM is. They arent Blizzard so they dont get the luxury of taking 6 yrs to develope a game.

Also for April Fools blizzard released a new character for Diablo III finaly called the Archvist or something.  Im guessing because of that fake character they probably spent 6 months on it and thats why we dont have a new one out yet lol.  I hope its a druid or Paladin next.

I'm sure everyone has heard by now that the studio head of CME has bailed on the project since he wasn't getting paid any more.

Im still put off by most of the gameplay trailers ive seen. Right now the MMO that interests me the most is DC Universe.Kurushio

Besides this one, I'm mostly interested in Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Trek Online.

Think we'll see any small tidbits about this game come out for E3? I have my doubts, but it would still be nice to see SOMETHING.
