Greetings all, this is Version 2 of the 360 Game Recommendation Thread I made a while back. So remember, keep all "what game I should get" questions in here.

This thread was designed to help future Xbox 360 owners or potential Xbox 360 owners decide which games are worth playing or spending your money on. If you can't find what you want, the Xbox 360 page is an excellent place to look for some great 360 games to play.

Each game has a brief description about the game. To get more details on the game, visit its respective Gamespace to find out more.

Let's rid the boards of these threads!

Sharvie

Note from a moderator:

*NOTE* All "What game should I get?" or any similar questions relating to game recommendation threads outsite this stickied thread will be locked. This is THE ONLY place for asking for recommendations in the 360 board. Thanks.Caddy06_88

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

The Call of Duty franchise hits the Xbox 360 again, this time set in modern times. The game's sound and visuals are some of the best on the console, and while the game's campaign mode is over quickly it's one great ride.
Call of Duty 4 also has one of the best multiplayer portions on a 360 game with a popular ranking system and a lot of different maps to play on.

Halo 3

Any Halo fan will tell you that Halo 3 is a must-buy for the 360, as would most who have played it. It's satisfying story campaign provides closure to the story of Master Chief and the ability to have 4 online co-op play through the campaign is an excellent addition to the game.

The graphics and sound effects of the game are excellent, and the multiplayer is superb despite a vast amount of rude, prepubescent online players plagues the online mode but hardly hinders your enjoyment.

The Darkness

Artistically and Graphically, The Darkness is fantastic. The excellent voice work and dialogue make for a compelling story and the darkness powers in the game make for some very interesting gameplay. Lost Planet: Extreme Condition

Lost Planet is a goodgae with great visuals and excellent design. The bos fights are some of the best in a game and make for some exciting fighting. The story could have been better but it doesn't take away anything from the gameplay. The mulitplayer is also pretty good but could have been expanded more to make it a lot better. It's funny to see some of the ratings on these games in Europe. In the U.S., Battlefield Bad Company is rated T, Call fo Duty 4 is M, in Europe they're both 16+...

Anyway, for Arcade, make sure to add Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2. Best game in the arcade probably.

One thing - I think you've posted the 2nd and 3rd posts in the wrong order - the first ends with racing games, but only show 2, and the 3rd post begins with 2 more racing games. It looks like the 2nd post should follow on from what is currently the 3rd one

Hope that makes sense :P

Call of Duty 4. I'm a big fan of Burnout, but Call of Duty 4 is one of, if not the, best game on the system.

For me, should I wait for Castle Crashers on the Arcade? I'm a big fan of co-op, so I'm just wondering.

your list is coming out cluttered and all over the place.

And I would put COndemned 2 BloodShot under Action/Adventure to be honest....it really isn't a first person shooter as much as it is Survival Horror.

I would put a Horror game list

Condemned 2 Bloodshot
Fear

and then you have Resident Evil 5, Silent Hill V, Project Origin, and Dead Space to put under it in only a years worth of time.

I would say Crackdown belongs on the same list as a Grand Theft Auto 4....as a Sandbox game..SO keep it action adventure.

But for the most part your list is very good.

but why Stranglehold and some of those other games? game was kind of average don't you think

COD 4 is considered one of the best games on the system and is awesome.

Burnout Paradise is fun, just the whole open world racer kind of breaks up the pace for me, when i have to look at the map.

I lilke the list, good work.

Out of interest, should I go with getting new games or old games in bargain hunting? I like the look of Soulcalibur 4 and Madden 09 amongst some other games out in the coming weeks and months. However, I have been getting older games as I feel bad for getting newer ones due to the price drops they get.

To cut to the chase, should I go with getting new games and be more impulsive or get older titles in the 2 or 4 for 20/40 deals?

Whatever you feel comfortable with. There's some older games that are definitely worth picking up. Games like Call of Duty 2, GRAW 2, Oblivion, Rainbow Six Vegas Hitman Blood Money....etc. And they're pretty cheap too. I usually buy whatever game interests me at a particular time. Right now I feel like picking up PGR4 or DiRT, but I know in September I'll be buying NHL 09 and maybe Star Wars The Force Unleashed.

Good point, I suppose I should go with what I want to get at that time. I have a set budget that I use to buy stuff so I can just get stuff inside that and the rest can wait for another pay check etc.

Yeah it entirely depends. I've never had a problem with getting preowned games. I saw a great deal in my local Gamestation where it was four 360 game for £20 which included Forza 2, PGR 3, etc. You could also try the Amazon Marketplace for cheap, preowned games, and even some that are brand new are cheaper than Amazon's price.

For me, should I wait for Castle Crashers on the Arcade? I'm a big fan of co-op, so I'm just wondering.

Certainly. It's supposed to be quite good, although I've heard it's launching at a ridiculous price (something like 1500 MS Points?). I'm not sure if you can co-op though, but you can definitely fight against each other.

Nevermind then. I'm looking for another 800 point game, and I was wondering if I should just wait for that.

I don't understand the hype surrounding Castle Crushers. Is this game supposed to have amazing Co-op or something?

I'm stuck between these four games: Burnout Paradise, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Condemned 2 or Assassin's Creed.

I can get all of them for a good price. $30 for BoP, $30 for RBSV2, $20 for Condemned 2, and $20 for AC.

I've already got:

Battlefield MC

Battlefield BC

Halo 3

Gears

Burnout Revenge

Crackdown

CoD4

RBSV

Rock Band

Mass Effect

Forza 2

GTA IV

I'm only going to buy one, and I can't decide. :?

Burnout Paradise.

Burnout Paradise isn't a rehash and more of a sequel than RBSV2

but if you thought Rainbow Six Vegas was a better game than Burnout Revenge, and don't like the idea of open world racing go with RBSV 2.....since the DLC makes up for the sheer lack of new in this sequel.

Condemned 2 Bloodshot just craps all over itself in the 2nd half to be honest.

Great job, but I'm pretty sure rainbow six vegas 2 got an 8.5 instead of a 9.1 like the first one.

BF: BC's probably your best bet. It might not top COD4, but it's doing well

I was thinking about picking up Beowulf. It's $19.99. Has anyone played it? The trailers on Gametrailers.com look really good. Almost like a Norse God of War. I really wanted to know about the combat. Does it have the same 3 hit combo the enitre game or can you branch out like in Conan when you wield different weapons? I don't want it if you do the same combo the entire game.

Crackdown's Coop was more than just "OK". It really depends on who you're playing with, and the imagination of both parties, however.

What you said about Stranglehold was dead on, until you finish the first level. Then it becomes the most disappointing game ever. Lots of wasted potential.

Outside of that, great list!

I found it ground down my patience very quickly. At it's core, it's an ok game. The problem is that they've layered on repetitive cutscenes which do nothing to advance the plotline or strengthen the characters, they just spend 10 minutes or so each time whining about something. Add onto that the 40-minute incredibly boring final cutscene which just asks (pathetic) rhetorical questions and it quickly became one of my least favourite 360 RPG's.

If you haven't played it already, get Lost Odyssey instead.

Hi, I'm thinking about getting Assassin's Creed and The Orange Box which each I found at a Gamestop for $30 bucks. I've heard good things about both games but I'm wondering if they're good for a casual gamer like me. Also, about The Orange Box, I have never played a Half-Life game before. Would I understand the story?

If you have a PC that can run it, get the Orange Box on there, if only because Team Fortress 2 is supported a lot more there. It helps to have understood the first Half-Life's story, but its a pretty simple story. It would be less confusing to learn Half-Life's story than Assassin's Creed's. Half-Life can be a great game regardless of if you are casual or hardcore, due to the pacing, naturally easy difficulty, and flexible difficulty settings.

Oh, and Orange Box has more replay value. Its a great game on the 360, but its better on PC. Assassin's Creed, while a great game, does get a bit repetitive. There's just no incentive to play it after you've won.

It's a great game. I got it to play with my lil' sister, but I ended up liking it so much that she didn't get a go on it for about a week. It kinda loses steam once you've upgraded everything and you've made all the pinatas resident, which is probably around the 20-hour mark, but it's still good for the odd gaming session every now and then.

You might be better off waiting until next month for Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise though. It's pretty much the same but with a few problems ironed out from what I've seen. Plus, it has more pinatas.

Hey, can anyone recommend a good racer for me? I was interested in PGR 4, but I thought DiRT (demo) was fantastic -- I don't know. I have Forza 2, but any other racing game I'm willing to consider.

Thanks for the guide! But I suggest maybe adding Alien Hominid HD to Arcade, it's such a great game.

Lanezy

It depends if you are looking to play multiplayer or single player.

For single player DiRT is awesome, and one of my favourite racing games on 360. There is a decent selection of vehicles from lots of different disciplines, going from circuit racing to hill climb events and rallying. If you liked the demo then that is a good indication for the game.

PGR4 is great in both single and multiplayer. An improvement over PGR3 it adds new locations, lots of new weather, and motorbikes. The career mode works well allowing you to pick which packs of vehicles to unlock, while the events make you pick different cIasses. The 5 difficulty levels work well to provide a challenge whatever your skill.

Another game not listed in the top of the thread is Test Drive Unlimited. This is a huge open world racer based on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. While the game is fundamentally the same in both single and multiplayer, this is really a game for multiplayer. While online you can drive around the island just for fun, or compete in one of the hundreds of events for both cars and motorbikes. Unlike Burnout Paradise, TDU features a large selection of authentic licensed cars and bikes, and does allow for upgrades to be bought for them. Online you can find other players driving around and challenge them to races, either pre-organised ones, or a spontaneous point to point race.

Get any one of those 3 games and you will not be disappointed.
