So which racing game demo should I download tonight guys, I was thinking of Dirt or Grid since I've heard good things about them. Which one do you like better? I don't usually download demos and should have recieved Merc 2 from gamefly today but cause of labor day weekend, it's being a bit delayed.Dabbagins
Both are fun, and made by Codemasters, so it really comes down to which type of racing game you want to play.
GRID is very circuit based and tries to use real world cars and tracks. There is no modificaiton for any of the vehicles. Turning driving assists on or off will allow you to make the game more like a simulation, but with them all on it is easy to pick up and play. My main criticism of it is the AI, which is awful. Rather than doing their own race they are linked to you by a virtual rubber band, so the faster you go, the faster they go and catch you up. In the head-to-head challenges this gets to ridiculous levels where a spun out driver will be right back on your tail within 2 corners.
DiRT is a mixture of a rally game and drit track/off-tarmac racing game. The career mode is very good, and the selection of difficulties provide a challenge whatever your skill. There is quite a big range of cars, and only very minimal customisation (changing the preset car skin to another premade skin), but the AI is much better. DiRT's main weakness is the lack of variety online, as only a couple of modes from career are available to play online, and you can't see other drivers on track.
If you are looking for a single player racer, then out of these two I would recommend DiRT. If you are looking for an online racer, then GRID is the better bet, though the online community did have a large number of people that seem to think every mode is destruction derby :(
