The Official GTA IV Trailer thread.

Everyone look,

Even though it might say liberty city on the boat at the end, this is NYC.  I live in manhattan.  Rockstar has it all in there.  Statue of Liberty, Coney Island roller coaster, Metlife building, Time Square, Manhattan bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, south street seaport.  Its all there.  And to say that NYC would be too small of a place to model, i think you are wrong.  If Rockstar actually modeled the entire city (manhattan, queens, brookyn, bronx and staten island), it would be a huge game world to explore. 

 Definetly, not an orginal or new city choice by rockstar, but it should still be a lot of fun. 

It would be cool if you could create your guy and pick the accent.

As far an Accent goes, I would like for the Charactor to have a Jamaicain Accent, because with the Murder Rate in Jamaica being very high, give it a real Gangsta Feeling to the game

I hate you all because you are making me type this agian. Rockstar modelled everything after NYC yes this is well understood. They did the same exact thing with San Andreas (Watz towers, Lombardi street, the Vegas strip), did they not? Now they are doing the same thing with this game excpet to another level of detail. This game will take place in Libery City,  no matter how hard you try to deny it. Same places just different names. Until I see a cop car that says NYPD it is Liberty City.

So you guys hoping for a gangster or a mobster this time around? I think I want the main character to be a gangster again. Cant wait to see this trailer!Tha_lazyboi

I'm happy they released the trialer, now Rockstar is going to start feeding us features, videos, and screens. Before you know it October will be at your door.

I'm very impressed and excited about how the game looks.  I had originally thought it might take on a look similar to Crackdown, which I really didn't want.  

 I'm also diggign the whole Russian thing.  Kind of reminds me of Jean Reno in The Professional.

And to all those people who want to customize the accent and everything else on the character, that's a bad idea. When you can customize everything down to the last detail(I mean besides superficial look) you end up with a really lame character with no personality to accomidate for it, look at Saints Row.

I think the point is that it's new york but called liberty city. Things like the getalife building (metlife) and the statue of 'liberty' hehe RebornInFlames

Exactly. People keep saying its New York or Liberty City but the truth is that they are the same. The environment is very similar to NY but the names of buildings have been changed. Grand Theft Auto 3 also took place in a Liberty Cit that looked nothing like New York.

Dude everyone with eyes can see that Liberty City is based on New York(Satue of "L-I-B-E-R-T-Y") but it's called Liberty City in the GTA universe. Haven't you played a GTA game before? San Andreas= The San Andreas Fault Line=West Coast, Vice City=Miami "Vice" named for the city of Vice=Miami,

Download the trailer and slow it down The words Liberty City are everywhere and are referenced everywhere despite the fact that it is based on New York as was GTA3.

The Cities in themselves are paradies of the real thing, which lead to numerous in-game jokes as anyone who has ever played a GTA game can attest to.

Wish they had some game play footage.  Oh well, it still looks sweet. 

There was a Statuee of Liberty, and the empire state building. I think its new york. Which is sucky coz that means, no countryside or anything. I am slighlty disapointed. Some of the textures looked dodgy, but overall the gfx impressed me. Tom1243

Fear not, There's a shytload of countryside in NJ and Upstate NY. I'm assuming if it's going to be Liberty city again, there gunna concentrate on the surrounding cities like San Andreas, Maybe Philli, Albany, Newark, Atlantic City.

I've played all the GTA's and I'm sorry, but the original Liberty city looked nothing like New York. This one is exactly like New York. Vice City looked nothing like Miami in real life. Check out this pic of the Liberty St Ferry Terminal. It's the same as in the trailer

Perhaps this is a "new" Liberty city. If it is it's the 1st time they've made a complete clone of the real city. Don't try to argue otherwise.

Obviously you don't understand what the word parody means unless you played the other GTAs and simply failed to notice the social commentary in the landmarks and even on the radio stations. The bottom line is you don't have to live in New York to know that it is New York (Statue of Liberty) and you didn't have to be from San Francisco to know what San Fierro was supposed to be in San Andreas.

I'm just saying maybe they still plan on "calling" it Liberty City (Maybe to just be funny and keep the tradition of the parody going and satirical nature of the city it is supposed to represent the same as the other games, maybe for legal reasons, good god they've had their share and we know how NYC acted about True Crime 2. Then Jack Tompsons on them all the time)

I'll just say that the words Liberty are all over that trailer if you pay close enough attention so unless they change it in the upcoming months it'll most likey still be called Liberty City(stores, advertisements and even the boat are an example). There is even a message in the trailer that reads "welcome to Liberty City".

One more thing if you've played the other GTAs and I mean really played them instead of just driving around without purpose You(not talking to the person I'm responding to but just in general) would have to be either very young or incredibly stupid not to realize where the inspiration comes from for the GTA locations and the jokes that go along with each release.

But it looks real now you say? It's nextgen it better. Before I get any stupid responses I'll say this in simple terms; it could be called Liberty or the real New York, only time will tell.

Just read the writing on the back of the ship:) Liberty City is based on NY. It has always been.
