He doesn't look like Russian Mafia... he is from somewhere to the south like Georgia, Armenia or possibly the Caucasus where they are persecuted by the Russians (hence why he has gone to the US for a better life... hehehe yeah right).

seems kind of disapointing. it looks too serious. and i dont know, but the graphics are too good and it will somehow ruin the GTA feel.99skylinegtr

Im quite unimpressed. I am yet to be convinced! There are no plot details, no idea of scale, nothing denoting any alteration in gameplay experiance, no on-line details, is it mmo? Guess we will have to wait and see. Mind you, does look pretty! killeryoda85

Obviously you don't understand what the word parody means if you played the other GTAs and simply failed to notice the social commentary in the landmarks and even on the radio stations. The bottom line is you don't have to live in New York to know that it is New York (Statue of Liberty) and you didn't have to be from San Francisco to know what San Fierro was supposed to be in San Andreas.

I'm just saying maybe they still plan on "calling" it Liberty City (Maybe to just be funny and keep the tradition of the parody going and satirical nature of the city it is supposed to represent the same as the other games, maybe for legal reasons, good god they've had their share and we know how NYC acted about True Crime 2. Then Jack Tompsons on them all the time)

I'll just that the words Liberty are all over that trailer if you pay close enough attention so unless they change it in the upsoming months it'll most likey still be called Liberty City(stores, advertisements and even the boat are an example).

One more thing if you've played the other GTAs and I mean really played them instead of just driving around without purpose You(not talking to the person I'm responding to but just in general) would have to be either very young or incredibly stupid not to realize where the inspiration comes from for the GTA locations come form and the jokes that go along with each release.

But it looks real now you say? It's nextgen it better. Before I get any stupid responses I'll say this in simple terms it could be called Liberty or the real New York only time will tell.

guys stop arguing about where its set! its clearly New York and maybe rockstar decided that they could improve on GTA3 so thats why they are settign GTA4 there. and lets go back to the very first GTA it had three maps Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City all of which have made up the last 3 GTA games and if i remeber correctly Liberty City in the first GTA game had a russian mafia story line but anyway it still looks amazing and it looks like its gonna be a pretty big place to explore

It is Liberty City. Rockstar only did London as a real city, but all other GTA's have been set in fictional cities based on reallife cities.

If it is liberty city, then why the statue of liberty? and all the other famous N.Y. landmarks?

Oh and haven't you guys heard of the eastern european people smugglers (we have lots in u.k)

they're takin it back to liberty city... it looks great but i can't help feeling a little disappointed about the location.  i was really hoping for euro or asian cities like london69 or gta2.

I am from Armenia and I do know how Russian people talk because I had lived in Russia for 4 years. And not I live in Europe so, my friend, I guess you are not right but as I said I could be wrong.

I can't believe people that are saying " it's NY because of the statue of liberty or the chrysler building" do you not remember the Las Ventuas Strip (=Las Vegas Strip) or the Golden gate like bridge in San fiero or central park in gta3.... The main is definitely Slavic. It will be hard to pinpoint exactly where until we have more info. It seems that a lot of people don't understand that Liberty City is a representation of New York City as is Gotham is in the batman series.

The trailer is in game and it looks great. Very long draw distance, nice realistic colours, great day/light effects, water looks amazing, nice graphics.

Hopefully they'll give us some more info soon.
