Although it's a fine strategy from a sales perspective, M$ won't do it.

$199 for a 360 is already a steal, and cheaper than a Wii, M$ isn't going to devalue their platform for no reason.

Kamikaze-Sushi

What if 720 was announced for 2010...

Dear god I hope it's not called Xbox 720.. Just keep it simple like Xbox 3 or damn X3 for that matter. Numbers are already confusing to me enough as it is :?

Id go with Xbox 362. 360 is popular enough, so build on that brand recognition. Make "36" green but the "2" orange.............since that would symbolize LIVE being upgraded as well.

[QUOTE="-M117-"][QUOTE="deangallop"] If the market is always right the best game this generation is Wii fit, and the best music is the Jonas brothers...... give me a break. deangallop

you may disagree but thats what the market wants. To a lesser degree the market wants 360 for their "core" fix.

the one that sells the most is obviously better,.

WRONG the that sells most is most preferred, there is a difference.

More competition is better because more ideas and innovations are always being developed to push the industry foreward and to make progress.

Do you want a MS monopoly on hardcore and a nintendo monopoly on casual?

The hardcore base is in fierce competition between Sony and MS, it has to stay that way

The casual base has no competition, look at the wii products and how absurd the quality and pricing is.

Aku101

Wii is different cause they are geared towards casuals. If MS corners the core market, 3rd party devs will still support it with their AAA franchises.

If MS corners the hardcore market then there is no reason to make stronger hardware to push the envolope of console gaming. Third party devs will be stuck with old hardware and they can't makes games that they want and then they would all just flock to PC.

And yes the wii is suffering from low quality with high prices. That's what you get from a monopoly.

u do realize that only a minority of games make profit? The higher specs consoles gte, the more likely devs will clsoe down or be bought up. Is constantly pushing the graphics really the best thing for this industry? I say we make consoles that can pull off Crysis graphics on highest settings and just stop there.

Let me hear this plan.

PSdual_wielder

1st gen - get brand name out there 2nd gen - get superior developer support 3rd gen - win so far so good

We're in their 2nd gen right now, so what are the superior developer support? At most developers are giving equal support to both consoles. And please don't dish out that RE5 and SF4 looks amazingly better on the 360 crap again.

nono u misunderstood me. 2nd gen means they get the developers on their side. 1st gen the developers supported PS2 way more. Now developers are giving 360 more support then PS3, former franchises only on PS2 are now coming over to 360. Etc.

[QUOTE="deangallop"][QUOTE="-M117-"][QUOTE="deangallop"] Except the market isn't right in this case or alot of other cases, blu-ray is superior, the only thing thing DVD's has over bluray is a large consumer base and better pricing.

the market is always right. period. You can have an opinion, but its adorable that you question the market.

Both need to survive. As a consumer you do not want a company to win, you want the competition to be sustained as long as possible.

Competition = better quality and lower prices = better for us consumers.

Aku101

MS and Nintendo are competition enough.

Let me hear this plan.

Well blueray is doing better than DVD did at this stage, DVD was such a huge leap from VHS as well.

irrelevant. same principle. VHS has been around since the what........late 70's? offcourse DVD struggled, people had nothing but VHS. Market is always right.
