ROFL!

Seriously...if you look to video games to learn history you are a fool. Video games have one purpose...to entertain. Granted, there is software designed to teach you things that presents itself in a game-like manner (mabis teaches typing, ect) but anybody who is looking to Call of Duty to teach them about WWII or humanity is rediculous.

These games are simply trying to be fun, and part of gameplay is immersion. The reason why you don't see a game about the US vs Canada is becuase it DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!

"You can't say that Tetris or Mario bros was propaganda"

Tetris not propaganda?

After hours of playing Tetris with that hypnotic music and St. Petersburg inspired architecture I was ready to convert to communism.

@ Jack
Men rise to the occassion - this started out calm, but I was verbally assaulted by fan boys, appologists, and cowards for stating my opinion. Then things got a little nasty, but overall the only people making rude/childish remarks are the posters who jump in, yell at me, then leave and don't back up their childish comments with rational explanations.

Well, considering the adolescent theme of your argument, what do you expect?

Aside from the sanctimonious complaints above, you sound like a spoiled teenage kid who's pissed because a TV show didn't have the ending he wanted. Sure, you paid for your game. It didnt live up to your expectations. Wahhh!

Perhaps your early years were spent sheltered by overbearing parents that went out of their way to make your life as comfortable as possible, righting all your perceived wrongs, and making everything as 'fair' as possible. Sorry to burst your bubble, but adulthood is a little more complicated than that. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

So go ahead, argue ad nauseum that you are potentially boycotting X, if Y and Z = A. It doesn't change the fact that this is simply another 'ME' thread started by someone desperately wanting attention.

Yawn. I think Ill go check out more of the 'Chicken vs Beef?' threads.

anandram

Wow. I'm nearly 30, married, a college grad, computer programmer, now in medical school, and a part-time gamer. According to you, I'm a 16 year-old brat trying to get attention. You may be the least insightful online-analyst I've ever seen, Freud.

I'd respond to your insults in depth, but in general, I've already addressed such absurd charges elsewhere.

Just get one thing straight: it's not that the game didn't live up to expectations, that happens from time to time. HL:2 is a great example - I just wasn't that impressed. But the game was well designed, and well maintained, so in no way would I want to boycott it. STALKER, on the other hand, frankly doesn't work - it's broke. This isn't about me, this is about me AND the 26% of voters viewing this thread who are willing to go against the grain and support a boycott of a company that has b****-slapped its own community in the name of future profits.

While GSC programmers are hard at work churning out STALKER's prequel, Clear Sky, I sit at my desk with a useless copy of a broken piece of software sold to me by GSC on the premise that the game would work... OR be patched.

"Buyer beware" is true, but to a point - if the seller has violated the agreement to the extent that the product is not even functional, the buyer deserves compensation and the seller deserves a reprimanding, or in this case, a good old-fashioned boycott.

You see Jack - theres the problem right there underlined and in bold above. The fact that it is such a minority will be the reason why your issue hasnt been addressed and will probably be continued to be ignored. As i am sure you are aware, the devs have 77% of people (in this thread alone) that are happy with their purchase, and the 23% are simply irrelevant to them in terms of "who was satisfied with their purchase". Im not saying the 23% should be ignored, but business wise, the profit margin for them has probably been made, and as long as at least maybe 60% are happy, its all gravy for them. Its a harsh reality, but it is also THE reality of it.

Maybe if a larger % of people had an issue, you would be heard louder, but thats not the case. I do however wish you good luck as the underdog in this challenge ;0)

Why does this post remind me of Tyler Durdan discussing the "recall of defective vehicles"?

in QuaKe 2 you can here music for ever level Is qUakE 1 like tHat to ?

Johnny_Rock

Actually no. Quake 2 is like Quake 1, not the other way around.

And to follow that logic.. Quake 2 is like Quake 3.. NOT!

I found Quake 1 to be vastly different than quake 2.. Quake 2 had more depth.. more gameplay.. (not just endless shooting)

and Quake 4 is VERY much like Quake 2.. in that it keeps pretty much to the original Quake 2.. (imo) many disagree though.. probably because they liked the UT type gameplay of Quake 3.

To hammer the point home.. the relationship between Quake 1 and Quake 2 is like the relationship between Heretic and Hexen :)

Which I felt were very much the same except one was first person and the other was third person. Point of view means little in the way of gameplay.

umm Hexen was first person... Heretic II was third person..

Actually DS2 was quite enjoyable.. overall.. just didn't like having to backtrack all the way to do the "special" quests. But, its optional.. but I'm anal retentive.. so bad game because it forced me to backtrack!

I personaly hate digital distribution. Its a good idea, I'll admit, but I won't use it for a long time. My internet is to slow for a start, you might be able to download Doom 3 in 45 mins and I really wish I could, but it would take me 3+ days at best. Not to mention my internet cuts out for 5 minutes or so every few hours. I've tried downloading games in the past and have always suffered the problem of not being able to actual download them. It would definetaly become a more mainstream way of getting games, but the internet services in countries like mine (UK) need to be uprated before it could really kick off.

But to be honest. Even if I could download games straight off the internet and play them, I don't want my options taken away. I like going out meeting the people and seeing the places and I see going to the shop for my games as an extension to my hobby rather than a chore.

Applications like STEAM auto-resume so if your connection gets lost you don't loose the progress.

Sure it will take a while .. but at least you don't have to start from scratch every time.

I only buy games from the store. I don't trust things like steam. It has been hacked in the past, and will be hacked in the future. Well when it is hacked again, my credit card info won't be there for the taking.l-_-l

make use of the services your credit card provides..and it won't happen. :) Generate a number for use only one time for one transaction.. ala "virtual cards" where charges are placed on your credit card but your actual card number is never given..
