Well I'm not sure what to do now. I was all set to leave the house and pick this game up, but the 1 on 1 style party system of the game iscausing me hesitation.

I really liked the group aspect where it's just a bunch of people, kicking back with a beer, whooping and hollering at the matches on screen, etc.

I'mafraid things would get a bit quiet without that atmosphere.

Is the singleplayer worth it to someone that is not going to be using this game to train for tournaments?

That said, VF5 online boils down to two types of matches. Ranked matches (one game against a random opponent) and player matches (unranked matches, as many as you want, against players of your choice). A rotation mode would've been nice, but if sacrificing spectators is one of the steps Sega had to take to get the online working as well as it does, more power to them.

So your'e saying you can't get like 8 or 10 guys in a room and play winner stays or tournament or anything like that? That's disheartening to say the least. One of the most satisfying parts of DOA Ultimate and DOA4 online is waiting in anticipation for your turn to take down the champ. Watching each game before your turn and hearing the "oohs" and "ahs" of the others in the room.

It was very much like being in the arcades again.

Probably one of the casualties of getting the netcode to be as beastly as it is.

So after all of that disregarding the online mode as a useless function, have you come aroundto seeit as a relatively fun addition to the game?

Are you calling Portal a mod? That's insulting to such a great game. It certainly is not a mod, and neither is Team Fortress 2, which in my opinion is the most well rounded and complete multiplayer game of the year.Shame-usBlackley

I haven't played TF2 yet (been waiting for them to patch the 360 version), but doesn't it only have like, two modes and five maps?

Honestly, there is not much to it at all. Unfortunately, each game type is linked to the map you are on. One map is CTF, and all the others are territories. Me and my buddies weren't interested in any of the territories games, and in the end played the one CTF map over and over again for a few hours and a few nights. Doesn't have much staying power to be honest.

I will say that the art direction and animation is absolutely superb, and the concept is a ball, it is just lacking a bit in content.

I think on 1up they talked about this. They asked the spokesguy if the PS3 version would be running at 30fps or take some hit in performance compared to the 360 version. The guy basically said that 30fps was absolutely unacceptable and that they would get the ps3 version up to standard at any cost.

Whether that means the PS3 version will take a hit in some other areas to get it running at that speed is unknown, but I believe they will definitely get it running at 60fps and as comparable to the X360 version as possible.

[QUOTE="AlwaysSoft"] Give me a break. That isnot like the saved films feature at all.Teufelhuhn

Yeah, you're right. Instead on the PC it's a universal "feature" that can be used for every game, and utilizes the most popular video-sharing network on the planet (or any other network, for that matter). So you're right. nothing like it all.

If you think that those sorts of Halo 3 features are really neat or you've never experienced them before, that's fine. I'm sure they're great to use. But for PC gamers such as myself it's hardly news considering that we've had things like screenshots, video capture, map editors, and Garry's Mod for years now.

Perhaps you haven't experienced saved films. Let me bring you up to speed.

The game automatically saves all of the games you have played in the past, you can go to a list, and pick from all of your past games, while in a party of four. While watching this film, everyone can fly around independently, look through anyone's eyes, zoom in, etc. As easily and as quickly as a Madden replay, you can put the game in slow motion, fast forward, pause, skip back a chapter, snap a screenshot that is immediately available to anyone playing on live at the moment, as well as on the bungie website, and even edit a clip of your favorite moment in the game. All the while, your friends can watch and comment on what they are seeing.

I can do all this within 5 seconds of finishing any game. Or in pretty much no time at all if I just want to show someone a past game of mine. I can have my game uploaded to a server for everyone to view and fly around that game environemnt with their own buddies, commenting on my game, just as easily and just as fast.

I've been a PC gamer for overa decade and have not seen anything like it. I never bothered with the whole mod scene to be honest, but somehow I doubt it allows for anything like that. The way Halo does it is about as accessible as it gets for such a function.

I would bea bit surprised if COD4 manages to outdo Halo 3. Mostly because I think both will have great singleplayers and multiplayers, but what really sets Halo 3 apart from any other console game out there, are the saved films, screenshot editing, bungie.net implementation, and forge features. It really shows the amount of money and resources that were available to the Halo 3 development team.

Like matchamking, I think these features will be exclusive to Halo for years to come for those very reasons.

Fixed that up for you. :)

Are saved films standard fare in PC FPS's these days? Strange, because I've played every PC shooter worth playing up until the beginning ofthis year (at which point I deemed my x1900xt to be outdated) and I have yet to see such a feature.

No offense but if you don't know how to create movies from PC games, you haven't playing PC games for very long. Just take a quick look on Youtube and see how much footage there is from Crysis or any other recent PC game.

If the Orange Box counts, probably that. If not, Halo 3, thus-far.Maaarrrz
I don't think it does. GOTY is not really about value, it is about the quality of a single game. They can give it to Portal, Team Fortress 2, or Episode 2, but lets face it, none of those are going to get it.

[QUOTE="AlwaysSoft"][QUOTE="FlaminDeath"]How can you even have doubt. Its GS Halo 3 wins everything :P.HiResDes

The only award a Halo game has ever won here is "Biggest Disappointment" back in 2004. So I'm really not sure where your'e coming from.

Nice try, but Halo 2 won multiplayer GOTY here. (Beating out UT2K4 mind you) ;)

Yeah but theres one problem, COD4's multiplayer trumps it in every fashion imaginable.

Well, of course it does silly. Halo 2 came out in 2004. :P

Seriously though, I don't think it's fair to be making those assumptions since Call of Duty 4 isn't even out. That is unless you already have a copy of the game and have played its online component extensively. Have you?

Yes for a month, beta remember ;)

I was referring more to the entire game. Making the judgement (after playing a beta) that Call of Duty 4's MP will "trump Halo 3's MP in every fashion imaginable" seems rather brash when you consider the amount of praise Halo 3's MP has received.

Well, not realy IMO because really the multplayer can only be better, and get this COD4 even has clans to go along with its extremely deep rpg-like class system.
