@master_49: forget the hardware, my link is about games, PC for quality, and phones for casual, are leading the market today in therms of sales for only games.
I can't believe that good news for consoles is good news for gaming, consoles was perfect for the last century, when nobody needed a PC, they was a solution to play easy and cheap at home, perfect. In this century, since Windows XP everybody has (and need) a PC, and can play in it. Consoles survived by being more similar to PC, at the point that today are PCs-for-dummies, that can't be good for the gamer, LIMITED in all aspects: space, quality, timeline, mods... It's my opinion based on how, since more or less 2010, the multilatform era is hurting the game industry.
@master_49: Let's rewind... the article is about gaming industry is stronger in PC than in other platforms, period. Some ones argue: "how does they know what device is for gaming", ok, I've pointed the sales of the game industry alone, not hardware, software, and PC still ruling. I think is clear.
@master_49: you are saying the same but changing the implications, in consoles you stick with "this is a game device", while in PC you say that "it has much other uses". Try to use the same rule for all.
@129260: the problem is that in these portals (because of misinformation and/or, in most cases, fanboyism) console gamers tends to exaggerate PC problems/costs, and ignore consoles problems/costs. A console is not more a plug and play device, since PS3 you need to install games (in a slow/small HD), and needs to wait forced updates more than would be desired. To that adds the difficulty to consult online guides with a bad browser, or chat in online games, all the additional actions you need for "board games" from strategy to a simple chess, more actions to drive trough menus, even the character creation is a pain with your pad, add that you cant continue playing most of your games in your next console, not mention the impossibility to install mods.
PC gaming is not for you because PC complications? but you have a PC, not for gaming, for other things, well, you already have all of those complications, outside your games, but in your life. So a console don't banish PC problems from your life, in fact, it adds "console problems" to your life. ;)
@master_49: I know at least 2 more who tells me that bought PS3 because was the cheapest Blu Ray device in that moment, in their shelves they have only the games that came with the console plus one or two more to test, but they plays on PC, in fact, one of them is modder.
You don't need the best hardware to graphic design or audio-video, I've been doing videos with my computer from 2010, of course a PC gaming is better to do that, but if I would buy just to professional use, I don't need to buy the last graphics card, better 1-2 generations previous at budget cost.
@Arkhalipso: am I wrong? is Metal Gear more important than Warhammer, Quake, Diablo, Ultima, DotA, The Masquerade, The Sims, Half Life, Fallout, or far to the past Rogue, Tetris, and so?
They have created entire genres, today all RPGs still compared with Baldur's Gate, all shooters has the the Doom mechanics, all real time strategy has the Dune system, most ARPGs claims openly that are based on Diablo 2. Where are the legion of games born from Metal Gear?
@Arkhalipso: people still asking for new moevies every day...
Look, forget the word "movie" if that bothers you, just think that a thing with one narrow way to end is more close to a "tale" than a game.
You can read again a tale, of course, but it will be the same tale, while you can't have 2 identical chess sessions.
I prefer to read a good book than a pretentious story-driven game. But here we are talking about games, that has a different goal, is for that reason consoles since PS3 had fail, because till PS2 they had variety of titles, but since PS3 all good games are from PC (multiplatform) and exclusives are just movies with ZERO replayability.
@Arkhalipso: a normal person can replay a replayable game, because it is replayable, but how would you call a person that replays the same movie once and again?
@asnakeneverdies: I've expected an answer excusing HK about plagiarism, but still not answering how great is MG to keep it in a podium higher tan games that has even created entire new genres.
You can't deny that it has a legion of fanboys, I know his name even never having played his games (except few minutes the last one), while I don't know the names of real innovators behind Baldur's Gate, Dune, Counter Strike, Diablo, Quake (that last I think this is Jhon Romero? not sure), how could be possible? Well, I see too much marketing + fanboyism, a tragic combination.
Reading Kojima defenders I notice one common thing, all of them are, also, console defenders, my theory is that since in consoles most games seem the same (thanks controller limitations), Kojima has done a triple A game slightly different than the average and all console fans don't believe such luck. While in PC we have constant innovation, so real innovators don't draw much attention.
