[QUOTE="iusm78"]Not really. Besides why isn't that idea plausible? I've played consoles where there were games already on it without even putting a game in it.cobrax25

those maps that you download are made by other users....they need a way to get them from their PC's to your PC.

It would be nice if you could download the map from the users on the server (sort of like P2P).

@iusm78 - If you're talking about procedurally generated content (i.e. computer generated maps). It is very hard to make the code for a map generator for a complex game. Man-made content is much easyer and cheaper to make.

On-topic: 1 - PC dosen't have generations;

2 - if you are making a parallel to console generations, current hardware isn't strong enough yet to justify a generation leap. We're half-way there, i would give it until the 10 series comes out.

On the other hand current PC hardware IS stronger than console hardware and manufaturers like Alienware, HP and DELL could use the fact that the majority of people are attracted by big words. So if they slap a next-gen and let's say Ultra HD in a marketing campaign they would jump in sales.

[QUOTE="f50p90"][QUOTE="codezer0"][QUOTE="f50p90"]That's awesome, but what wil they use the space for? Nothing. So why save it? f50p90

It could easily mean the difference between using a single-layer BD game vs. a dual-layer.

there has never been a dual layer BD game before. MGS4 will be the first. And we have yet to see if it even makes a difference

I haven't been following MGS4 very close since i'm not interested in it. But from what i read here and there i got the impression that Kojima said he didn't have enough space on a DL Bluray disk so he had to cut some corners.

What would you prefer? Better quality and/or more content or unnecessay uncompressed audio that could retain the same quality by using a lossless codec?

He cut the different language tracks. You really think any dev would cut anything important from a game? Espcially one as respected as Kojima?

No of course not. He could've cut some details that seemed unimportant from his perspective but could make some memorable moments. So why cut them when you have the possibility to include them at unsignificant or no loss.

the 9800 is not a huge leap in terms of performance, the 9600 on the other hand is way better than the 8600, even the GTS, thats the real affordable powerhouse, i guess pc gaming is getting cheaper and cheaperthegoldenpoo

It's a strange trend: PC hardware prices are lower than before, yet with each new gen of consoles get more expensive each generation.

And it's strange because console hardware is dependent on PC hardware.

Try chasing people with self-destruct drones. That's funny.

You know, it is a shame I'll never be able to play this game. Though I guess in a couple of years, after I get settled, I could get a couple thousand dollar machine (not looking to build)...excuse me, I was thinking out loud.

Thats is really some good stuff, is the editor really as easy to use as it appeared in the videos shown?

cobrax25

yes, it does everything so easily its crazy.

It's easy to get into but you have to know your way around map design and some 3D design to make good maps/mods.

Cool.

I doubt they are all good though.

Halo 3 has thousands of maps made each day but most are bad.

gatorteen

yes, but what Halo 3 has is a very basic tool that can re-arange a few objects and customize a few things.

This is a real editor, you can make maps from scratch, script AI, do cutscences...everything really.

This is the same tool that Crytek uses to make their maps, everything crytek can do, you can do....and the PC community has a decades worth of experience making maps.

I understand this.

But I doubt they are all good.

yeah but even if 20 out of 250 maps are good, thats still a hell of alot of good maps.

I would rather say out of 250 map supposedly 200 are bad or mediocre, 30-35 are good and 15-20 really shine.

you can check who is #1 in certain maps and the drifters are always up there.

In the 1st demo there is NO way you could come even close to #1 unless you drift.

zero_snake99

Yes, but that's in a game, which may or may not accurately simulate real life. If drifting really made you faster, then why don't you see it all the time in IRL, NASCAR, etc.? Yeah, you'll see some sliding in rally racing, but they're on dirt - they don't really have a choice.

I don't know much about any other racing courses, but Nascar is a joke. And there is no need for drifting in Nascar races because the turns are wide enough to keep very high speeds.

Then in Formula 1 they should be drifting all over the track.

But they don't. Guess they must be noobs. Right?

I like how you disregard the fact that the Yaw on F1 cars is generally higher than most cars, they have wider tires and their turns are like right angles with generally a small amount of space. Keep in mind, if drifting was actually in racing, there would be a lot more accidents. Thats why the drifts are left for low traction race divisions like rally and midgets.

Then take WTCC, GT, etc.

Drifting looks cool but it's not the most efficient way to go around the track. When you drift tires lose their grip. You lose grip = you lose speed+braking power. Tires wear faster, you need to keep revs high and that could result in your engine blowing up very fast. Plus the fact that it takes too much effort for no gain at all.

Neither the car or driver could come out very good in a full fledged 1 or 1 and 1/2 hour race. As i said the engine would stop about half-way through the race and they would have to change tires every 10 min.
