@CriticalGamer92 @Stealth3905 Did she actually write it off though? Her score suggests otherwise. It is definitely a point of debate whether one's personal beliefs should be brought into a review. I agree that game reviews need to look at the core gaming mechanics when ranking. But games now days try very hard to express different opinions and perspectives, things that stir personal opinions. As games develop, I feel that one needs to examine games in light of their opinions as well.
@plutoend99 Note though the video said that people do actively criticise their work and their fine with that....as long as they're worded in a polite manner.
@slfite I would argue that alleged misogyny is much more significant than a lack of public transportation, but that is just me ;). As @TirOrah said though, I appreciate the way you worded your comment.
@EnochRoot69 In regards to your last point, the video does actively state that individuals can and have criticised the Gamespot team, both in well written and constructive mannerisms and in hateful formats. Johnny says in the video that they only take offense to the later. By stating that both styles of criticisms exist while only dissapproving of the one (hateful speech and trolling) they aren't really suggesting that it is only 'kids swearing and making noise'.
@Baconstrip78 @TirOrah @biggest_loser Your perspective is based on the idea that Gone Home, because it was short, lacked action, and wasn't adventure based, it was bad.
However, that isn't the perspective of everyone. If I didn't think those were requirements for a game to be good, then Gone Home could be fantastic.
@alex_1889 @TirOrah How is it lazy for them to ask people to curb the acidity of their criticisms? There is nothing wrong with expressing differing opinions, but that can be done without the hatred.
Great episode Johnny, this is certainly something that needs to be addressed. The amount of indecent behaviour is getting out of control in a lot of the comments sections. Gamespot may need to clamp down on it somehow, though that will be difficult on such a large site.
@TirOrah @iloveyourface A good response indeed! Gamespot does have a large number of unpleasant individuals on it and it's unfortunate. It is certainly hard to manage it, but there must be a way to curb the vitriol.
I've seen some forums that generally had very civilized behaviour on it, but they were smaller in scale. I'm not sure of any way to deal with it on a site as large as this one :(.
