If you don't own an HDTV you really have no idea what the whole huss fuss is about my tiny p is better than your fancy i. But I'll tell you this...after playing on an HDTV seeing games on SDTV made me not even interested in gaming....it's pretty much like there's no point...the picture is so terrible and lame you don't even care about the game..
Word to those thinkin about making the HD plunge...do it...believe me when I say your opinion on a LOT of games will change when you do.
Games you notice the most difference with.
Gears of War
Resistance: Fall of Man
Motorstorm
Oblivion (PS3)
CoD3 (360)
Flow - this one is amazing in 7.1 on an HDTV....weird I know.

I disagree with the whole "not even interested in games on a standard def TV thing," I was playing and digging TP on a standard def set then going back and playing Gears on my HDTV - didn't have too much of a problem with the transition. That being said, I do agree that it makes a huge difference. There are moments in PS3 and 360 games that are so sharp and visually brilliant looking that you just have to stop and take in the environment for a while because it looks so spectacular, it's like work of art. That doesn't happen with the Wii once become used to the PS3/360 on a large HD display, it can still be very fun to play but the visual pop and visual "Wow" factor disappears... at least in my experience.
Is it necessary? No.
It sure as Hell helps a lot, though.
