If you sort by date you'll see the first 2 and 1/2 pages are all cancelled titles (and there are 50 listings per page)....

Also, from the period when the PS2 launched in NA to early July the following year (the same time amount of time the Wii has had up to this point) the PS2 had 8 AAA's and tons of AA's. The PS2 sold BECAUSE of its games, the Wii sells DESPITE its games. Developers had to keep making AAA / AA games for the PS2, the games sold the system. Wii is selling with a poor library almost a year into its lifespan, why would a developer spend the money to make a great games when he can make a quick cash in and sell just as much if not more?

Allright, I did some counting myself:

GS lists a total of 2778 PS2-games. Out of these 334 are AA-AAA-AAAA games. This makes up for 12% of all the games.

If we do the same for XBOX we get 1161 total games out of wich 230 are AA-AAA material. That's allmost 20% of the total games.

Conclusion: PS2 had relatively less good games.

I'd like to do the same with the GCN, but I don't know the url to get to the GC part of GS. Anyone can help me out?

Arsuz

If you bothered to look you'd see many of tose PS2 games aren't rated, were imports or japan titles (and thus were not rated,) or were cancelled.

And this is the GC section:

What PC game out RIGHT NOW looks better than Gears? Please.

"The textures are a mess." Hahaha, someone who obviously hasn't played it on an HDTV.

It's possible I think. Remember when Metroid Prime got 9.8? Well if it got that rating with Gamespot's current rating system, it would round up to a 10. So if Bioshock measures up to the impression that Metroid Prime had on Gamespot, which I think it is the kind of game that could do just that, it could possibly achievea 10.cheezisgoooood

MP got a 9.7, same score as Halo.

With the new rating system that would be rounded down to 9.5.

[QUOTE="-KinGz-"]

[QUOTE="Homesrfan"]It looks like a great game... but pefect? I don't think so...jetthrovegas

U haven't played it, and IT COULD BE PERFECT.

That's what I mean, it could be perfect. If Bioshock is better than SS2 then it will be perfect.

If Bioshock is better than SS2 it might very well be perfect in your eyes and mine, but it probably still won't get AAA here (let alone AAAA.)

Don't forget, SS2 was amazing (easily a AAA in my book,) it got an 85% here. Not even high AA.

Did they?!?!?

Dunno man, it would seem really odd to me that'd they'd give it an 82 then give it a GOTY award....

What do you think guys? Is it even possible anymore?

Bioshock has been getting some really positive previews...what if?

jetthrovegas

No. I don't think it will happen. Lately, I'm questioning whether it will get AAA, to be frank.

And, so that no one jumps on me, I don't think Crysis will get a AAA the way it looked in the last batch of screenshots/gameplay videos.

But each of them have a chance and they can each dominate the genre if they apply themselves and reviewers take a liking to them. But no AAAAs.

Why are you questioning whether it will get AAA? It's almost a given based on most of the previews.

Don't get me wrong, Bioshock is my most anticipated game this year and I'm sure it will be fantastic, BUT:

When it comes to getting a AAA here it might (probably won't?)not hapen. Its spiritual predecessor System Shock 2, while being almost universally acclimaed (92% on GR) and winning countless GOTY's, got an 85% here.

Remeber Deus Ex? Yep, the Deus Ex.... 92% on GR and countless GOTY's as well.... you know, now considered a complete classic? It got an 82% here. And some people thought the TP review was odd...

This site is really odd when it comes to rating these types of games.

Going to be fantastic, yes.

AAA on GS? Maybe not.

Why are cows getting so excited about killzone 2?

BigDaddyPOLO

But... System Shock was actuallya superb game.... Killzone.... wasn't.

If SS2 hadn't of been so incredible not very many people would be very excited about BioShock. Levine has already more than demonstrated his ability to make classic games, and people that know what to look for are seeing glimpses of it in BioShock. I know what you're getting at, but they're not comparable.

The excitement over Bioshock is understandable, the excitement over Killzone 2 is the 8th Wonder of the World.

I'd still like to know what "multiple studios" this guy was talking about.

System Wars is ridiculous.

[QUOTE="turq_razor"]

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]You forgot to mention System Shock 2.BloatWare

They didn't make system shock 2 on their own. They got help from another studio.

Uh, what are you talking about?

It was developed by Irrational Games, Irrational was an offshoot of the Looking Glass Studio. IrrationalGames was created y three employees of LG (most notably Levine.) You don't know what you're talking about, do you?

And SS2 was awesome. it's after the fact patched on multi wasn't very good, but the game itself wa (which is why I don't mind that Bioshock doesn't have mutli.)

What other studio are you talking about?

They developed it on their own.

Nothing to say about this buddy?

And, to answer your original question fans of good games are excited about it because it's the [spiritual] successor to SS2, now combine this fact with the huge amount of financial resources Levine has at his fingertips because of IG being acquired by Take 2 (and with this comes a much larger development team, much more so than he had with SS2,) near complete creative control by Levine, and the lessons he learned from creating SS2.... and there you go, that's why people are excited.

And when it eventually comes to the PS3 (I believe it will) PS3 fanboys will be extremely excited about it as well.

Who knows how it will do score-wise on this site though. SS2 was HUGELY underrated by this site, just like the original Deus Ex was. Apparently they have a hard time ranking games of that type. To give you an idea, Deus Ex got something like an 82 here, it has something like a 92 on GR and it won numerous GOTY awards. SS2 got something like an 85 here, and has a 92 on GR and also won numberous GOTY's. Because of this I really don't give a damn what numerical score it gets here.
