@cardinalphoenix

I value everyone's perspective and opinions and you took the time to reply to my message so the least I can do is the same. Sorry for the split messages, gamespot thinks Opera is IE so limits my characters per post.

There's no game out there that is favored by all. Pick one, and it'll have haters, or at least people who say "yeah.. I heard it was good but it wasn't for me." Thats life. If the shoe doesn't fit, you don't wear it. To say Baldur's Gate was a bad game because of the D&D rules set it is like saying Counter Strike sucks because it's a FPS. It's what the game is, and it's a bit more full on for most people. It's also fact that Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 established the series with it's own stat system. To deviate from the core mechanics of a game is to not make a true sequel. That's why so many people are arguing that D3 is not the game that was meant to come next in line. It would be like Baldur's Gate 3 ditching D&D.. it would change it, but it wouldn't be BG3 then.

@cardinalphoenix I can go on for days why D2 > D3. I can, although not as long, also go on about why D3 > D2. But just because YOU enjoy something that has changed and are willing and able to accept it while others stick to the roots of what THEY enjoy, you have no right to tell people to "get with the times." If anything has really changed it's that more people are embracing games on a casual level, or gamers these days are dumber than they used to be 10-20 years back.

@cardinalphoenix I can see the pros and cons to the new skill system. The new system works for what Blizzard have intended and envisioned for the game.. it's a been dumbed down for the masses so that more people can play (how many non RPG players will touch Baldur's Gate or say a turn based strategy war game? Too much to learn.. and path of least resistance wins), more people playing means greater sales of authenticators, more people buying off the RMAH, more people checking out their other games, etc. I can't argue with that, that's good business. Unfortunately the sacrificial lamb in this case has been the people who liked the added depth (no matter how shallow it became on Bnet by players giving in to peer pressure to develop perfect builds).

At the end of the day, it's just a game. You're either enjoying it or your not. I didn't, so I got my refund and never looked back. Mind you I did play all classes into high levels. After that there was no replay value. With D2 I could have rolled other classes and challenged my self with different random stat distribution. Unfortunately, with D3 it's all around the items.

@cardinalphoenix Sorry, but you don't just tell someone to get over the cutting out of something that they've grown to appreciate and enjoy in a game series just because the game has been designed to simplified for the masses. Lets take Baldur's gate as an example, seeings as they are in a similar category, only BG being a proper RPG where as D2 just takes the character customization and ramps up the action.. hence ARPG. Can you imagine cutting out the D&D in Baldur's gate? Can you imagine taking out the player driven story and decision making? You'll be left with what is essentially a fantasy RTS. Not an RPG. Tell a racing car driver that from now on they'll be riding tricycles around the track. "Sorry bud, times have changed, get over it and get with it." He'll tell you to go get f#$%ed.

@ACLDox Oh so when I speak on your level you suddenly understand me clearly.

Sorry ACLDox, but you're a waste of time, my friend.

@ACLDox You fail to mention that you also so prejoratively said "Please. Fabricate some wonderful tales."

You open with an insult yet you expect an intelligent conversation. I should have sensed your angle on the topic from the beginning.

@Vegeta-sama Long story short, PC's are generally capable of rendering better graphics, operating more intricate gameplay mechanics with mouse and keyboards.. the reason why you don't see many RTS games on consoles. Also companies focusing on console development sees less of these genres being developed in the AAA class. Say for example an RPG such as Baldur's Gate and Fallout 1 & 2, and the loss of heavily funded point and click adventure titles. Heaps of articles cover it on the web.

Not a big thing for most, but if you are a fan of a genre or series it is.

@ACLDox "Satisfied?"

Nah not really. With such a close affiliation with the company, it now gives more of a reason for you to come to their defense with a biased perspective.
