This microsoft "insider" stated in this article that the 360 is actually designed to be vertical. Now it obviously operates in either position.

But... from a reliability standpoint, when set up vertically, 2 of the 3 sides exposed to the air are the largest sides, giving the unit more of an ability to cool itself instead of being horizontal where one large side is only millimeters from whatever surface it is on, trapping heat beneath the unit.

And for those who say, standing it vertically blocks the largest vents and is harmful to airflow, again, this "insider" states the end on which the 360 standsis designed for air intake. Well, air only needs about an opening as thick as a sheet of paper to be drawn in, air is pretty thin.

Just my (well not actually mine) 2 cents on those on the fence about positioning of their unit. For the record, I have mine around my neck on a big chain like Flavor Flav.

Had theirs die with that date or later? The team name on the box is CSON and their is nothing about wattage.

This is my first xbox, and I obviously want it to last a long time. The retailer told me to relax that microsoft has made "great strides" with it's reliability.

My concern is that all I read about is how they keep breaking. I can handle being without it for a few weeks if it happens, but I wouldn't like multiple breakdowns like I keep hearing about.

So, anyoneout there had theirs crap out with a relatively new manufacture date.

Thanks,

Big Daddy Norm

Seems like...

(A) All new xbox units rolling off assembly line should have pretty much the same hardware internally to play the games with

and

(B) The absence of a HD or any other power consuming technolgy would mean least power and less heat, so...

How is it not the MOST reliable version?

It ain't rocket surgery or nothin', but I was just wondering.

I am just a casual gamer, I don't play online, at all, zero. I never save seasons for sports games, I only play random games from time to time, and I mostly play singleplayer affairs like Resident Evil, Metal Gear, Halo, Ghost Recon, etc. Is the Arcade System perfect for that type of gaming and does the memory card sufficient to hold saves for a few games of those types?

Also, are the newer systems now coming with this new Jasper motherboard / chipset yet? I obviously want the most recent, reliable system I can get, thanks all.

I've been sitting on this $300 Gamestop Edge card and have been leaning towards an Xbox for awhile, just trying to decide, thanks again.

Vertical, and for those who have mentioned it, standing the Wii vertical doesn't not block the vents on the bottom AS LONG as you also use the round stabilizer disc to keep the Wii from tipping over. This keeps the bottom of the Wii level with the soft impact pads on the bottom of the Wii holder which allows for proper air intake. The vents on the bottom are for air intake, the one on the back is for air outlet. When air intake vents are concerned, you only need as much room as needed for air to freely pass through, which ain't much. Air outlet is where you want 6 inches or more the the hot air expelled is not sucked back in through the bottom. Since heat rises, standing it vertical allows for less chance of ho air being sucked back in the intake vent. But the Wii is pretty well made, not like other game systems out there... Bill... I'm looking at you, =)

I think it looks cooler vertical. Plus it takes up less room.

For those complaining about having to escort the Prez's daughter around, do what I do... Put her somewhere at the start of the level and tell her to stay put, then fly solo wipingout everything on the level then simply whistle and she'll come running. That way she's never really in danger.

And on the levels where this is not possible, like in the castle, with Wii aiming, it's fairly easy to get nothing but head shots and keep her safe at the same time.

I like the game, I just hope we get some type of new RE experience in the future. Something is better than nothing.

What is everyone complaining about??? If you actually read the instructions, and thumb through the settings, you can set the game to play using all-play or standard controls. The standard controls work great, for those familiar with college football.

This game deserves at least an 8 for a score. But too many people are obsessed these days with how many "moving pieces" they can get on screen at one time. Yes, the Wii version is not a grphically enhanced as the PS3 or 360 versions, but what is on screen is highly polished, moves a a great frame rate, and most importantly (to me) plays extremely well.

Hope this helps those on the fence about buying this game.

So, I am in Wal-Mart around 7am Friday morning checking out games for my system when I walk by the Xbox 360 section and notice the console in the case is proudly displaying the good 'ol RROD.

About this time a lady comes over to ask if I have found everything okay and need any help. I said no, I was just enjoying the blinking cry for help from the deceased 360 in the case, when she suddenly said, yeah I have to swap that out before the crowd starts to pick up. She pulls a 360 (brand new in the box mind you) from behind her counter to replace it with.

I watch her slowly remove the broken one, and replace it with the new one. She gets it hooked up, turns it on, plops in what I assume is a demo disc or something that runs all day long, who knows. So, I go about my business looking at games for my system, and when finished, walk back down the aisle by the newly replaced 360 and what do you suppose I see?

You guessed it... This 10 minute old 360 was proudly blinking 3 red rings of glory. The bottom line is, MS has NOT, nor will ever fix this problem without a total re-haul of the internal design. For shame MS, for shame.
