This is one of the more unusual posts to come through Gamespot. Well, I just happen to have been an MECP-certified car audio installer back in the day.

Based on your post, it's no wonder you blew your last amp (this is not an insult). The Punch series of amplifiers is Rockford's low-end or entry-level amp line, and if you had a similar entry-level amplifier before in any similar setup, it is not unusual for you to have blown the amp.

What happens is when you bridge a 2-channel amp into a single channel, the amp sees the load at half-resistance. So if you have an 8-ohm sub bridged to a 2-channel amp, the amp sees a 4 ohm load. Two 4-ohm subs hooked up to a 2-channel amp - presumably in parallel - will result in an effective 1-ohm load to the amp. A Punch amp, and even most high-end amps BTW, simply cannot handle a 1-ohm load, and blow up. Catch fire. Pop fuses. You get the picture.

I'm not sure what you have for subs, but I would reconsider your wiring setup. At the very least, purchase a dedicated mono subwoofer amplifier. Make sure the installer is MECP certified, or you get help from a Crutchfield tech.

There is nothing wrong with Rockford amps, they're great, just remember that entry-line amps will have a shorter life span and are more likely to crap-out on you

Myself? I've got a Pioneer Elite Head Unit running to three Alpine V-Series amplifiers, a single Alpine 12" SWR-1240D, two Kicker SS Series separates in the front, and two 4" coaxials for filler in the rear.

I also used to compete with a pair of Cerwin Vega 12" Subs, and another car had two Kicker XPL subs.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to advise.

Thanks for playing, everyone! I think this thread is just about dead. I'm happy to hear that some people even know what Unicron is, given the movie came out back in the 80's.

Alas, the Death Star is, after all, the DEATH star.

I'm debating on weither or not this is the geekest question ever or the coolest what-if battle ever. I'm so torn......:P

Hallenbeck77
Debate no more, it's both.
You know the Death Star is the size of a small moon and houses millions of troops? Don't you?

The Death Star's turbolaser batteries alone could destroy a cube in mere seconds.foxhound_fox
Wouldn't the cube adapt? Can Star Wars turbolasers vary randomly in frequency? I think I just upped the geek factor.

It looks like there will be a peaceful resolution after all. I think we can all be thankful for this.

Iran on Wednesday freed the 15 detained British sailors and marines in
what President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called an Easter gift to the British
people. Prime Minister Tony Blair said he bore no ill will toward the
Iranian people.

I was wondering how certain games are selected to have pages created for the on Gamespot. For example, Stepmania does not have a page on Gamespot even though it is one of the most widely played PC-based rhythm games. Yet Starcraft and Starcraft Battle Chest both have their own exclusive pages.

Not a problem, just curious. Thanks!

Rogue , after she absorbs Ms. Marvel's powers on the Golden Gate bridge. I'm a dork!

Did she turn evil or something?

Nope, well, sort of. You'll have to dig into some back-history on her. She was evil then turned good then evil then good. So now she's good. Sort of. Does that help?

This is the most ridiculous question ever. So, Unicron (the planet destroyer) or The Death Star (the, uh, planet destroyer)? Assume both are "fully armed and operational" rather than floating heads aimlessly wandering the universe.

Unicron, eater of planets, devourer of worlds. The Death Star, fully armed and operational.

It's tough for me. Would the death star just shoot Unicron and be done with it? Or would Unicron just move out of its attack path (you know, hiding behind another planet)?  These are the questions we asked in the 80's...
