Gah that article made me even more indecisive...says the 600 ohm version has way better bass and more detailed mids with better extension...

On a side note, should I notice a decent difference between my Macbook and the Fiio E9/D3 combo?

The reviewer is exaggerating, in my opinion. I probably shouldn't have provided that link in retrospect. In theory, resistance should not impact the performance of a speaker under equal power. Remember that headphone evaluation is subjective, and this person is listening to both versions against one another looking for differences. How much of the differences between the two were in his head?

I say pull the trigger on the 250 ohm 990's. You won't be disappointed; they're absolutely wonderful to listen to, and super-comfy.

Happy gaming,

This article at Head-Fi explains the differences between the two. Personally, though, I'd save my money and go with the DT 990 Pro. I've listened to them: They sound fantastic. They'll also work better with sources that lack an external amplifier, or if your amplifier dies for whatever reason.

I'm not familiar with those exact headphones but you could probably do better for the price.

ModernWorldII

But how is Sony (headphones) in general? Is it good for gaming/music/movies. And what Sony headphones are good for those tasks?

Sony Headphones are good. They've squeezed some crap into their line like the xb500's ("Extra Bass") that make it tougher to find the gems. That said, the PS3 headset is pretty decent, in my experience, and quite good for gaming, in particular. If you just need a wireless headset for the PS3, it's a good choice. If you want to use it for music and movies alongside your PC, you might want to keep looking. Happy gaming, Boz

[QUOTE="Jynxzor"]Just checking in I picked up some Sennhieser 280's loving them so far. A bit snug but overall rather comfortable fit even with my glasses.

Sennheisers are known to be a bit on the small side. Regardless, I'm glad you love 'em! :D Boz

It doesn't look like I'm really needed here, but I did have one alternative to suggest. If you're only gaming on your PC you could use a desktop microphone like this $9 Logitech. I have a cheap desktop mic and it works fine for gaming. If you're doing any calls or voice work you might consider the Yeti USB mic, but it's overkill for gaming.

Also, the clip-on mic does not require any "cutting up," you just clip it onto the cord of your headphones and plug it into your microphone jack.

Also, the Audio Technica ATH-AD700 are the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever put on (then again, I have a giant head), and have a giant soundstage that is great for music and movies. The ATH-AD700's are lacking in the bass department though, which I find disappointing for gaming (FPS fans might prefer its open soundstage, though). I'd take the Ultrasone of the two, just because I like the more immediate presence a closed-back headphone gives in gaming. This is more of a closed- vs. open-back headphone debate, though, rather than an issue with either specific model.

Ultrasone ( underrated here :o)Bikouchu35

The only reason I never mention Ultrasone is because I have not had the opportunity to audition them personally. They lack distribution support in the states, which is a shame since they've got a great reputation and their DJ1 headphone looks like a less-expensive version of the Audio Technica ATH-M50, at least on paper. I've used most of the headphones in the sticky at one point or another, with the exception of the earbuds.

The Sennheiser Adidas PMX 680 are built for that purpose. There is also a PMX 680i that is compatible with iPods. Happy gaming, Boz

link I want to get either AKG 240 OR the K141 MKII but the biggest problem is the cable they use. the cable from the headphone look detachable so I can replace it with another cable. my question is can i use the cable in the link provided with either of the 2 headphones? i would like to know before i get one of those 2 headphones.

TheShadowLord07
I'd reach out to AKG directly to confirm that the cables will work if this is a deal-breaker (and reply back with the answer in case someone else has the same question). Those are some great headphones. Happy gaming, Boz

The TERA images I uploaded on April 11 are returning the error message, "Error: Invalid Board." I can see the images in the following album, but cannot click to enlarge them:

http://www.gamespot.com/users/Bozanimal/view_album?id=5jA4WxoLLXmGQcs

I can see the preview of the images in the album, but the link to the image does not work and returns the aforementioned message. It seems to only affect the set of TERA images I recently uploaded, as the April 8 photos from PAX are coming up fine.

I'd really like to use those images to preview TERA in a blog, shortly, particularly with the open-Beta coming April 20.

Happy gaming,

Boz

If they were free it still wouldn't be worth it. Skullcandy is horrible.

I use Skullcandy earbuds as a "disposible" when traveling. They're super-cheap headphones, pretty comfortable, isolate well, and I don't mind if they get destroyed. The sound quality is crap, but they're as good as anything else at $10. That said, I wouldn't spend more than $10 on them. $20 CAD doesn't seem all that great, to me. Happy gaming, Boz
