Bose is like any other company: They've got their good and their bad products. Their nose-cancellation headphones are some of the best available (they were noise-cancellation pioneers, after all).
I've tried the Bose AE, and found that they sound much like the Skullcandy Aviator, which is to say they are decent. I would personally take the Audio Technica ATH-M50 in that price range as a closed-back headphone, myself, but everyone is different. Many folks swear by the Shure SRH840 in that range, but I found them to sound distant, like sitting in the back row at an outdoor concert. The AE is not a bad buy by any means; they get about 3.5 stars of 5 on Head-Fi, so even the "aficionados" find them to be decent.
Most of the "Bose" hate around here has died down, anyway. I think folks have latched on to Dre Beats and Skullcandy as the new audio brand Pinatas. Still, your statement that "Bose is totally worth the money" is too broad to agree with; the firm still has too many products that are overpriced, particularly in their home audio division (I'm looking at you, Acoustimass).
I'd agree that Bose has some great products, but then, I'd say the same about almost any company: Even Skullcandy!
