The Gamespot image host is not allowing me to queue images for loading. Specifically, in browser at the image upload site for my UserID when I select a file it does not "autopopulate" below the Images line as it is supposed to (between the Images and Album control boxes).

I thought it might be browser related by I've encountered the same issue in both Firefox 5.0 and IE 7.0.5730.13. I am operating in Windows XP.

I'd provide an image, but I cannot use Photobucket or Imageshack from work, and Gamespot's image host is not working for me. Any guidance you might provide would be most appreciated, as I would like to post a blog and need illustrations.

Thank you,

Boz

When: 5:00PM PST, August 10, 2011
Where: Server Name "Pwniez Galore!" IP 206.220.173.246:27015
What: CounterStrike: Source (via Steam)
Platform: PC
Map: de_aztec
Players: 24
Chat Resource:Game Night Chatroom  (requires Java)

1. How do I get in on the action?

It is important to join the chat room so staff and GameSpotters can communicate with all of you. If you cannot remain in the chatroom for any reason, you are welcome to exit and return once you are finished playing a match. If the chatroom is not open for any reason, post a question in the game night discussion thread for that game of the week. Otherwise, the chatroom should be open on the day of game night.

2. I am from another country and timezone other than California time (Pacific Time). What time is that for me?
http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc. If you want to be extra tech savvy and you use Firefox, download the foxclocks application to monitor your timezone versus other timezones.

3. What mode will we be playing?
The game modes are normally requested while we're all in the chatroom. So, ask away once you join. GameSpot staff are normally easy going unless we make specific requirements in the announcement of a game night.

4. How do you select a game for game night?
In most cases GameSpot staff will consider your suggestions made in this union. We normally have a dedicated sticky thread to have one place to check out for our game night schedule. However, there are some occasions when we love a game sooooo much we just can't wait to play with you GameSpotters. This mainly happens to highly anticipated games that the GameSpot editors already played during beta testing or pre-release game data and the game has a good multiplayer gaming experience. One example of this would be the UFC game night we held with a variety of staff back in May 2009. We had many GameSpot editors playing this for weeks before we finally had a chance to play with other GameSpotters. Fun times indeed!

5. Can I drop by late to participate?
Of course! Why not? Note that we also have a poll for the game night discussion thread for the week. Be sure to post what time you plan to show so we can stick around later in case you decide to show later than 5:30pm PT.

6. What GameSpot folks will I be playing with?
The game and platforms really does determine which GameSpot Editor is likely to play. You might even hit some of your favorite GameSpot editors to ask them when they plan to participate in another game night or which game is likely to get them to drop by as well. You can do so by sending them a PM or posting a new thread in the Union board.

7. What is up with the bounty hunter emblem?
Every week, a player that meets the bounty requirement will get to take part in a grudge match later in the year against other bounty hunters on the game platform. This is a process we would like to have soon enough, but it's still in planning stages. That match will take place on a game that pretty much anyone can play, such as a free bowling game, or some other such frivolity. The winner of the Grudge Match will receive a special emblem in his or her profile.

8. Do I get an emblem for playing?
The only emblem goes to the bounty winner(s), which are listed on the game night feature page as MVP. It's next to impossible for staff to keep up with who enters the game or server and who doesn't. Besides, isn't gloating over GameSpot Staff a great reward?

9. What is the bounty requirement?
The non-scientific method: the player GameSpot staff feels kicked their butts the most is normally the first to receive the emblem. However, we have also considered users who are respectful with others ingame as well. We normally choose one MVP per game or platform.

10. So, do I have a good chance of kicking GameSpot butt?
Of course you do! There has got to be a game that we stink at.

11. What if you give the emblem to some other dude, even if I know I am better?
It's the staff call on who becomes the MVP for the week.

12. Where should I report my game night experience?
Go to the Union board and click on the latest discussion thread for the game. You can post screenshots, gaming footage or simply do a play by play of what you thought rocked in the game.

I didn't know there was a chatroom on the game nights page but it'd be nice if there was an easier to access chatroom.fabz_95

I have no idea; you're getting into a higher eschelon than for which I am able to provide advice. I suggest taking this question over to the Head-Fi forums for feedback from the experts.

Good luck,

Boz

The first question that comes to mind is, "Why are you upgrading?" Knowing what programs you want to run tells us which parts of your system are being taxed the heaviest, allowing us to provide better advice. :)

[QUOTE="mrmusicman247"]Hmmm...interesting question....I'm going to go with The Joker. He actually killed Robin. sonicare
That's a plus in my book.

I'm not sure I agree; my opinion on Robin changed dramatically after watching Batman: Under the Red Hood. Easily one of my top five between movies/animated series. Boz

Really? in the comics bane was potrayed as a master tactician and trained fighter that also happenned to be addicted to Venom. And while I do not know of the cartoon the movie translation of bane was one of the worst from comics to another medium.mattykovax
I never read much in the comics regarding Bane; most of my exposure to Batman is from the animated series and the movies, and Bane just never garnered the screen time of the other villains, which is why I asked. If he was a master tactician, as was indicated in his Wikipedia entry, it never made it to any of his animated or live-action portrayals, probably because having brains and brawn is a rarity outside the Superman arcs, in which case practically every villain is powerful and smart. Bane

Neither the cartoon nor movies does him justice. I really hope Christopher Nolan does him right because he is really one of Batman's smartest and most dangerous villians.

Blue-Sky
When was he done justice; I've never seen Bane portrayed as anything other than the super-equivalent of a 'roid head? I know he snapped Batman's back, but I thought that was outside the "main" story arc? Not that anyone can keep track, right? :P Boz
none, i hate all superhero loreimaps3fanboy
No offense intended, but if you have nothing to offer, why reply at all? For example, if there were a thread asking about favorite baseball teams, I wouldn't go in and say, "None, I hate baseball." I don't see what point it serves either you or the discussion.

Two Face. Tragic villains are always the best. Shame he was short-lived in The Dark Knight but still, great movie.

leviathan91
In general I'd like to see fewer villains in the films. One is more than enough to flesh out the character and the back-story without going beyond the 90-minute mark. Batman Forever and its sequel as well as the third Spider-Man were all excellent examples of villain overload. To your point, The Dark Knight could have skipped Two-Face entirely in favor of The Joker, who stole the screen anyway; just my two-cents. Happy gaming, Boz

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my families home theatre setup

We currently have the ps3, xbox360 and our tv box, that are all hooked up to the TV by an HDMI switcher that we got, its was a fairly cheap one, The problem is that every now and then the audio in the games/tv lags behind the video, sometimes its slight and other times its literally one or two seconds behind. this is really really annoying. I'm thinking that it might be the switcher but I'm not 100% sure......If it is then we'll have to get a new one from a more trusted brand, but I just wanna make sure that I'm not m,issing out on something instead of spending money for nothing

Has anyone ever had this problem before, if so how did you fix it....

thanks :)

The next time you have audio lag, pause your media, unplug the source from the HDMI switcher and plug it directly into your television. If there is no audio lag then the problem is the switcher. If there is audio lag then the problem is the source. Repeat the process in reverse to confirm that the audio is lagging (meaning after you run it directly to the television, run it through the switcher again to try to reproduce the problem). Either way you can isolate the cause of the issue and determine which component needs to be replaced. Good luck! Boz

Well, then im still somewhat confused. unfortunately i cant link as gamespot doesnt like complex HTML strings, but a list of cheap 19" LCD TV's from amazon are around $175. A list of 19" monitors (with speakers) from Newegg can be had for around $100. What is causing the $70+ dollar price difference?

XaosII
There is no good reason for the price disparity, though as I said, tuners are required by law in the US, which contributes to the cost. If you need a 19" display and a monitor supports the input format you need, get a monitor. That said, you may have difficulty finding a monitor with inputs to support your source. For example, the Hanns-G HW-191APD only has a VGA input and what looks like a 3.5mm audio input for speakers. Its resolution is also 1440 x 900, which means you are forced to scale a 720p or 1080i signal, as opposed to a dedicated 19" television that supports 720p natively, though at a higher cost (Philips 19PFL3505D/F7). Note that both of the aforementioned models are used for illustrative purposes, and are not recommendations. Are you looking for a cheap 19" display, or is this just an academic inquiry? Boz
