[QUOTE="DRIFTIMUS_PRIME"]Dmac, I fully respect your opinion, but the following is my opinion, and take it as such. Oh, I agree that we SHOULDN'T have to spend more money on a piece of crap machine that was rushed out. But you will. I will, you will, and all the people on those 186 pages will. Being realistic, what is the alternative? Leave the system dead, and eat the $400 plus whatever else you spent on games and accessories? I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to eat the $1,000 plus that I have invested in the 360....especially not over something like buying an extended warranty for 60 bucks to protect the console its whole life. Or there is the other alternative, get into a lawsuit with them. In which, you may or may not lose the case, and it will cost you not only money, but your TIME. Which, to me, our TIME is way more precious than any of this BS from MS. Boycott their products? Another time waster, and it does nothing to better YOUR situation. You can sign petitions all you want, (and I already signed a few because of this), but when it comes right down to it, do you really think the big software giant is going to stop production because of you? Or me? Or any of the others down that page list? They haven't stopped since 2005, and I don't see them stopping anytime soon. I stuck by what I first said, "If I can't get this one fixed for free, then I'm out of MS's hair". I got it fixed for free. My suggestion to anyone within the fix-it-free date is to keep calling until you get what you want, all that "This promotion ended" is more BS from MS. And to anyone who's buying new or is still within warranty date, get an extended warranty. I know I sound like the guy who is bending over and taking it, but I'm not. I'm just the guy who's trying to be realistic.DMac1975
Drift, I fully respect your opinion as well, and I realize that people are in different positions and will have different opinions. In your situation, having spent north of $1,000 on your 360, it is pragmatic to invest in the extended warranty. However, in my situation, it is probably more pragmatic for me to maybe just sell my 360 gear and quit while I'm ahead. I don't have that much invested in my 360, not to mention my life outside of gaming. And before people get all riled up and start flaming, I'm not saying that to be pretentious, but merely explaining my situation. I'm a father of two girls, ages 2 and 1, and my time for gaming has DRASTICALLY been reduced; long gone are those marathon nights of gaming where I skipped class the next day, or slept for two hours, went to work, and slept for another hour in my car on my lunch break.
Then there's the question of what M$ actually did to fix the 360; all guesses point to certain chips or processors being soldered improperly and "falling off" when the 360 gets overheated, leading to hardware failure (I'm sure I did not summarize that exactly right, but that's the gist of the theory). Did M$ merely resolder the chips back? If so, they did not address the design flaw that is the root problem, and after extended use and overheating, the Ring of Death shall return, as evidenced by the posts from those who say that they are on their third or fourth console. The extended warranty will cover you for another two years, but will you keep extending after that? This is why I'm of the mind that it may be more pragmatic for me to sell my stuff, and wait until M$ addresses the design flaw in future production runs. There;s talk in other forums of M$ going with 65 nm processors (tech talk, someone smarter than me can explain it) this fall that will drastically reduce the overheating.
So there is my argument on it. I wasn't disagreeing with you to attack you. I appreciate you respecting my opinion, and I respect yours. I also appreciate that we can both disagree with each other respectfully and intelligently argue our points rather than being reduced to fanboy or immature "Dude, your opinion sucks, you're gay arguments.
Anyways, since my 360 is no longer broken, I'll probably take a leave of absence from this thread for a while. I'll check back every now and then to offer my two cents and insight (or lack there of :)). I appreciate everyone putting up with my verbose posts and allowing me to rant on this subject. And Drift, while I didn't get my original 360 box (and I apologize to anyone who may get my refurb), I wish you the best of luck in getting Christine back :)). Best of luck, all.
Dmac, Thanks for the kind wishes. Major respect for you, you are probably the most intelligent-acting person I've had the pleasure to speak with on these forums. It is glad to know there are people out there who AREN'T mindless drones, fanboys, flamers, and trolls. B)
