Congrats, I've got 2 business days on the clock so far, so we shall see. Where do you live? No, I'm not a sexual predator, just wondering if it takes longer for MS to get it to you if you're farther away. I'm down in Florida, so I might not get it until FRIDAY of next week, especially considering Monday is a holiday... :(PHASE ONE of the Xbox 360 Restoration Plan is complete.
My "coffin" was waiting for me after I got home from work yesterday, within the three to four days promised by Xbox support (I had called on Saturday, and I received the coffin on Thursday, in four business days). The box came with a plastic bag, two foam inserts, a UPS return label, and packing tape. I packed up my dead 360 per the instruction sheet included, and dropped it off at my local UPS store. The UPS label said "Three Day Shipping", but I'll give UPS and MS the benefit of the doubt and say it won't make it to the service center until Thursday of next week. I'll keep count of the length of time it takes to complete PHASE TWO (the repair phase) then. Hopefully, PHASE THREE will result in a brand new working 360...

Keep in mind the elite has only had 2 months out of the gate, A.K.A. wait and see in a year or so. However, I'll say this much, I have YET to see an Elite problem in this thread, and I've only ever read of 1 elite dying elsewhere. So, IMO, it is way too early to tell, but so far so good.I hope this isnt offtopic or anything, but does the Elite/newer 360s have less bugs and freezing (did MS fix the problem) of all this red light stuff yet?

this whole "3 ring of death" thing is what's keeping me from getting XBL and spending loads of other money on my 360, maybe i should just stick to the PC after reading some of these posts...zaman48Don't be put off by these posts, just learn from them. Get an extended warranty, and you're set for, IMO, the best gaming experience out there currently. With warranty, it is worry free. :)
Thanks DMac, I'm glad they recognized my problem, and took good care of me. However, I'm not out of the woods yet, I want a working console just like you guys do. Will keep everyone updated on how this goes. Never had to send a console in before, so I'm all green on this one. :DSorry, my previous TWO posts were a response to Brgrngod's posts.
Driftimus_Prim, glad things worked out for you. I remember reading your posts a few days ago. However, you, Coda, and I aren't out of the woods yet. It's the small matter of us receiving a unit back that doesn't crap out on us in a few weeks/months. However, this recent post gives me hope:

This guy got back a system that was manufactured 2/07. I hope that's what I get as well. I called MS Saturday night, and still haven't received my box yet. I'll keep everyone updated...

[QUOTE="Coda_"][QUOTE="DMac1975"]It's funny how your situation mirrored mine, Coda. You call the Xbox hotline once, and they try to make you pay the $140. You call again armed with the information from GameSpot regarding MS comping repairs, and all of the sudden the repair is free.
Again, it's bad enough that the damn consoles breaks down, but then MS Customer Service tries to pull a fast one on you. What if you or I (or anyone else) had blindly paid the $140 without doing some more research? We'd be non the wiser, and MS would be $140 richer. I'm sure there are people out there who paid the $140, not realizing that they are entitled to a free repair.

Yep, it is pretty sad. But the thing is that the rep at M$ still was trying to tell me that my 360 is actually not under warrenty, and since they noticed that I have not sent mine back before, that was the factor in them doing this for me. Basically saying that they were going to help me out, but it technially was not under warrenty. Again this is most likely a line of BS that they have, but eitherway it allowed me to get my system fixed for free (which it should be).
So ya if you have this issue, give what I did a try. Because M$ DOESNOT need an additional $140 from me or any other person that had bought their defective system.
I've been dealing with MS all day today and they are atill insisting I have to pay $139.90 to get my 2005 360 repaired. Not sure what you said that was so magical but I through just about everything I could at them to try and get my money back, but nothing worked. "Your console is out of warranty" about 100 times. This over the course of 4 seperate phone calls to 1-800-4MY-XBOX.
I filed a BBB complaint. We shall see how affective that can be.
Hardware dieing after only 1.5 years of use? You gotta be joking me. The only consoles I have EVER had trouble with (And I own almost all of them back to the NES) have been my original Xbox after 4.5 years (repaired via a new $50 DVD drive through Ebay self service) and my 360 after 1.5 years of ownership. This thing is a turd. MS made a turd, and made a half-assed attempt at actually honoring their customer base by extending the warranty and providing what I am now being told was a "limited time offer" on free fixes for 2005 360's.
I am really close to just ebaying all of my 360 stuff as soon as I get it back from service. Maybe get the 1-2 days of Halo3 Beta in, then it's gone.
I got off the phone with them yesterday. I gave them the fact that they had offered repair for free on consoles before the Jan. 01 2006 date, pointed out the fact that my console was only "5 days past that date, there has to be something you guys can do". :D Mind you, I had called once before where the fed me that BS story about 140 smackers for it. So when I mentioned the free repair, the new attendant I'd gotten said "You mean to tell me the previous representative told you that your console was out of warranty?" LOL, backpeddling her butt off at this point. "1 sec., let me see what I can do". About 3 minutes later, "Yes sir, we'll be doing the free repair and your new console will be supplied with an 8 month warranty, let me process the order." :D So don't give up, MAKE A BIG FUSS!!! That is what I did, I didn't yell, and I didn't curse, I just stated the facts, the way I felt, about 5-7minutes of just me and the way I saw it, and BLAM, free repair. Go armed once more with the free repair info, say the way you feel, maye even threaten to boycott, and see how it goes. Do NOT under any circumstances give up. Keep writing down the names of the representatives, and make sure you get someone who speaks CLEAR ENGLISH, and someone different. If possible, get a woman, I think they are more compassionate about the way you feel. :)I wouldn't take that risk. Every console I've purchased since the PS2 has had the serial number barcode scanned when I purchased it, so it would be relatively simple for them to open the box and see that you are trying to defraud them. If you don't mind risking arrest and prosecution I say go for it. I really would recommend you just pay the $140 to have your console fixed.bdhoffArrest? Anything under 500 dollars, I don't think they can arrest you for. A simple excuse of "Oh, I've got 3 of these, I must have boxed the wrong one." would do, I think. :) And, I'd say you're right about the serial #, but my flap(where the serial number on the console itself is displayed through the box) is still un-opened on my box. I purchased mine at Target, and they only scanned the box itself when I purchased it, not the console.
