DarCowAlways Blog

No blog for Four Days; for Good Reason

I'm sure you've noticed ( :P ) that I haven't blogged in forever. Well, in internet years forever.

I got Crisis Core! It is just like a compromise between FFXII and Kingdom Hearts, while feeling utterly FFX, with the FFVII storyline :D It's very addictive.

Oh, and by the way, it's 1:45 AM.

I spent the last few hours setting up my NEW COMPUTER, this time for real! :)

We upgraded the motherboard, RAM, CPU and Hard drive. Which you should already know if you've been keeping up with the endless updates on the situation (shame unto you!) :P

And now for weeks of attempting to restore all my files and settings!

My Sister's Engaged!

Shre turns 20 tomorrow :)

She's been with this guy who's good with computers and likes a lot of the stuff I like for a long time now, and apparantly he just proposed not long ago.

I'l finally have someone to play videogames with :D

This is Looking GOOD

OK, so, technically, this is my 100th blog, but I have something extremely important to tell you all so I deleted a totally worthless old one.

Last I left off in this ongoing series, I had an AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core (2.3 Ghz clock) and was looking for a way to run Vista right.

BUT, while searching for a new hard drive (which we got) we became convinced that an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz clock) would be best, for many reasons. It's incredibly fast, cheap and powerful. And there isn't that problem with the patch that drains 30% of the power like the Phenom (!).

We removed the CPU and motherboard, and took them back to Fry's, and found a great motherboard to go with the Q6600.

We're also going to get 64bit Vista, we think, so we can use ridiculous amounts of RAM.

I'll update this when/if we get the new motherboard/CPU and install it, probably from the new system! :D

Everybody sleep well in preperation for the big 1-0-0 blog party! :P

Slight Change of Plans...

The BIOS chip I've been waiting for arrived today, and we got it installed and the motherboard working, but Vista now thinks it's counterfit, because our product key was activated and running before we switched out the motherboard, to make a very long story short, so it thinks it's a new computer altogether.

To fix this, we're going to buy a new hard drive, call Microsoft to give us a new product key to run, and install Vista on the new Hard Drive, with the current one as a slave from which I can copy important data that I can't back up right now.

I sure hope the Orange Box will work :?

We have to reinstall Windows Vista because it was totally set for the last motherboard. All it's drivers and everything were set just for that one, and a new one messes it up. I did have Windows running temporarily, and it was totally buggy. Nothing ran, there were error messages everywhere, and I'd get the Blue Screen of Death whenever I tried to do anything even the tiniest bit complex. So, reinstalling it is.

At least I have 11- er, 10 days to set it all up and getting running the way I like it. :(

I'm hoping for a new SATA (still using IDE 250GB) 500GB+ hard drive. This new motherboard only has one IDE port, but ~5 SATAs.

So, a clean install it is!

I'm watching Pirates of the Caribbean right now to cheer myself up :D

Can't Wait!

It's arriving tomorrow!!

Tomorrow I'll be able to start my computer again, this time with a quad-core CPU!

Today I realized my PC can now handle UT3, so that's next on my buy list.

Also, one blog away from the big 1-0-0 party! :P

Finally, I have 11 days off school! YAY!!

Since I'm now used to the slower speed and smaller screen of this laptop, it will be all the sweeter to use my normal PC with the upgraded CPU. :D

What to Do... ?

This is my 9th Team Fortress 2 blog... sad, I guess.

I've been without Team Fortress 2 for two whole days now, since my laptop could never play it, and watching the paint dry is my new hobby. Just look at that! Whoo!

This is my 97th blog! Three more and 100th blog party!!

...Just look at that paint...

...We're still waiting for a response from the BIOS department. We got a call back at 10:30 AM this morning, but I was at school and my parents were at work, so we left another message at the number they left and we're waiting for another response, so we can get the BIOS chip finally shipped off! It's torture!

Only one more day until Spring Break! Actually, it's next week, but I only have one more day of school before I have 11 days off. I have conferences, the weekend, Spring Break and the weekend. Then Monday :(

So... sitting around... not playing TF2... OH what to do?! This really makes me appreciate how great my normal PC is, and especially that one game on it I've blogged about in 1/10 of my blogs. :)

Problem Solved!

Hello my blog readers, and once again welcome to my latest blog. As is customary, may I remind you to check my other blog posts? It is easy to miss them, since I have been blogging many times these last few days.

So, as the title implies, the problem has been found! You see, the AMD Phenom 9600 CPU I have now came out after the motherboard did, and the update for the motherboard to support this CPU is only available after Windows has started

Oh, the irony.

So, anyhow, technical support told us that was the problem, and transferred us to the BIOS department, with whom we have left a voice message to have this new BIOS version flashed onto the BIOS card which we then shall promptly be sent and have installed, replacing the old one.

Then, by magic, the PC will start! "Welcome, *insert DarCowAlways' real name here*!"

I'm so excited :D
