[video=d3I3lDGv5bwOvjDY]

This is just a video where I tell you the games I plan to play throughout Retro Revival Week. I know some people out there won;t be taking part of it due to the fact that they are too addicted to COD 4 etc but whoever is taking part, have fun and RETRO ON!!

Intro Song Help!

Hello once again, fellow game lovers. I am here once again for you guys to help me with something. You see, I am going to do a new intro for Darro's Dominion and not sure what song to use for the new intro because I have been listening to music and there are several songs I like and wouldn't mind using for my intro. As for the new intro itself, it will be on Darro's Dominion starting next year once I get the song choice out of the way. So, here are the list of songs I would like to use for my intro and listen to each one and let me know which one you want to see and give reasons why. I won't count any vote that doesn't have reasons. So here they are:

Slipknot - Duality

Stone Sour - 30.30.150

Disturbed - Prayer

Within Temptation - What Have You Done?

Within Temptation - Our Solemn Hour

Within Temptation - Hand of Sorrow

I know there are 3 Within Temptation songs but I think all those songs would fit well and also because they are one of my favourite bands and just love their work. So once again, listen to each song and give me your choice on which one to choose and why. Whatever comes top will be the song that will be used for the new intro. Until then, toodles!

"Welcome! Welcome New Galaxy!"

Hey guys. Its the Irish Gamer here once again with another blog on something I wanted to talk about. What I wanted to talk about is none other than Super Mario Galaxy.

First and foremost, if you have a Wii and don't have this game, get it right now or for Christmas because it is without a doubt, the best game on that system right now. It will be pretty much a daunting task for anything to come out after it to topple it. If you enjoyed Super Mario 64 and felt disappointed by Super Mario Sunshine then this will make you fall in love with Mario again because it just makes what was great about Mario 64 and increase it tenfold.

Anyway, last night I completed the game as Mario and got 120 stars. *SPOILER* But the game is not over yet, as a matter of fact since you unlock Luigi once you obtain the 120 stars and can go through it as him, which I will be doing next year but not now.*END SPOILER* I will be most looking forward to playing the game again soon because it is just a delight to play and tons of fun. Some of the galaxies are extremely excellent to do and that is probably the best part of the game: its level design. There is a great variety of galaxies and some of the stars in it are really fun to get and you cannot wait to go back into it again. Some of my favourite galaxies include: Dreadnought Galaxy, Sweet Sweet Galaxy and Gusty Garden (love the music in that galaxy) but nearly all of them are great fun to do.

If there is one thing in the game that I did not like, it is the purple coin challenges. Now some of them I didn't mind doing now since they were on a time limit or you were on a moving platform and obtained them although if you missed one, you were screwed. It was the ones that were a little spread out that got on my nerves since I found them just tedious to do and annoyed you in that you got a lot only to die accidentally or whatnot and having to waste another 5-10 mins or so doing it again. For example, I got all of them in Honeyhive Galaxy only to fall off and die therefore had to do it all over again and that galaxy is one of the worst culprits in terms of the coin challenges. Apart from that and some minor camera issues, I find the game practically flawless. It has superb gameplay, stellar graphics and a memorable soundtrack and its a game that you would definitely come back to again just so you can play some of your favourite galaxies.

For people who know me, they pretty much have an idea of what my current GOTY is but after completing this, I have to think on it again since I just adored playing this and its a close call between this and the other game so you will have to wait and find out which one reigns supreme when my awards come about.

Just get Galaxy and enjoy it like I have. Also, since the Best and Worst of Awards from GS are coming up, I honestly hope this game wins their GOTY. I just hope it isn't something obvious like Halo 3 or a FPS anyway but who knows. I will be doing a video review of this game sometime. I will have to record a good amount of footage though first before I can and take it from there.

Until next time, take care and toodles!

The 360 Curse!

Well, this ain't a blog about the recent events since I basically have said enough for now on it. No, this is something that is troubling me at the moment and it is the 360 unit that I got off ebay and that it took a week to get here despite it being a next day delivery.

You know the reason my other one is getting repaired at this time and that is because it displayed the good ol' 3 red lights of death, doom or whatever. Now, I get this one last Thursday and happy so I can finally play Mass Effect but whaddya know? This stupid 360 I have at the moment has a bif of a problem as well and its basically a big problem. What is it? Well, a very important part of the 360 does not function properly and that part is the disc drive. Its pretty much defective in that it doesn't read discs about 9 times out of 10 and then at random after I lay it down or put it to stand, it reads the disc and it works fine after that and nothing happens. I sometimes get the this disc is unreadable error and sometimes I don't.

I said to myself that I would give it a chance and stick to it but now it has just become unbearable now and quite frankly, it is hardly working at all and its also scratching my discs which clearly isn't a good sign. I sent the seller a few messages about it and will probably not get a reply until tomorrow at best but I am asking for a refund since I rather get a refund than to wait another week for another one to come.

I seem to be having some sort of 360 curse at this time since the first one had the RLOD and this one has a faulty disc drive. I rather have one that doesn't work at all than one that has a defective disc drive.

Looks like I should just wait for my other 360. Also, did a really stupid thing too in that I left my Assassin's Creed disc in the broken 360 I sent and realised this today when I wanted to play it only to find a empty case. I completely forgot that I still had a disc in it and all sign point to not getting it back since Talor (TheWesker) told me they specficially say they can't guarantee you get everything back except the system. I emailed the support about this scenario and will see what happens although I think it was probably a waste of time doing so.

So no ME for me again! Just my luck! Toodles.

The Aftermath!

Well, its been over a day now since I found out about the news that Jeff Gerstmann had been fired from his job at Gamespot because of his "tone" within the Kane & Lynch review and that Eidos threaten to pull their ad campaign if something wasn't done about it. This is the story that we have received but it is not the full story per se and we may very well never know the full story behind this shocking news.

Since then, a lot of users on here have basically posted blogs on the same topic: Jeff Gerstmann and his firing and some of them have been sensible and some of them have been angry ranting and lashing out at Eidos and at Gamespot/CNET. I find it pretty ironic though in that the last video I did was kind of related to this news in that I went on about people bashing reviewers and reviews because of the fact it didn't get a score they wanted etc and a man lost his job over that very same thing allegedly. Some of the guys I know here on Gamespot and have become good friends with over the past 2 years are leaving and ain't coming back because of what occurred and quite frankly, I can't blame them for doing so. Some people will be staying of course although they will never feel the same way about this site again and that is the way I feel. I can never look at this website the same way again because of what happened. It has been forever tarnished and will never recover from this ordeal. Current and former Gamespot editors have basically given their thoughts on the matter and just feel saddened over the whole situation.

We all know that Jeff Gerstmann will be fine because I don't see that guy taking a downward spiral from this. After all, the guy has integrity and he will be back in the business perhaps in no time writing for another site/publication but who knows, something else none of us expected can be opened for him and we will look forward to see what lies in store for the face of Gamespot, Jeff Gerstmann. I know everyone here that is shocked and saddened by this will wish him the very best of luck in his future endeavours and I do too.

So what about me? Am I going to take the high road and leave this site that I have grown accustomed to for the past 2 years? Or will I be, like certain others, staying put only for the community this site has because that is what all is left now. You can't look at reviews and all that in the same light again because you will just have remember about this and cannot trust the reviews. I respect the editors that are apart of the website still but what will they become after this? They will be fine for the most part but in the back of their minds perhaps, they will always remember the week that changed Gamespot forever.

As for me, I have a new account over at Gametrailers. You may think that this is it and I am leaving this tarnished site but I am not. I am one of the guys who is sticking around but perhaps not as often as I used to be. I enjoy the community around here a lot but everything else is somewhat damaged goods now (I am probably exaggerating). If you are of the people who migrated over to Gametrailers, then this is my profile over there. I will be updating it over the next few weeks with videos and the like anyway so I have an alternative home from here. As for some of you, goodbye since some of you ain't coming back and to the others: toodles!

The Death of Gamespot?

[video=JCQ7w2b85bwNvjTY]

First of all, I would have never expected something like this to happen when I logged onto Gamespot and see the various blogs talking about the same topic. Jeff Gerstmann being fired because of a review he did for Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is just ridiculous to say the very least.

Even though I have only been a registered user for over a year, I have been coming to Gamespot much longer than that and Jeff Gerstmann was one of the main reasons why. The guy has been apart of Gamespot for 11 years and for it to end this way is just dumb. Anyway watch the video giving you my thoughts on the whole matter and also check out this vid too of James (Dendei_Aitrus) giving his thoughts on the whole matter.

I am not sure what I am going to do about this but Gamespot has lost its credibility and is pretty much dead to me now and not sure if I will stay or go but its just weird. I wish the best of luck to the G-Man in getting another job and hopefully he is happy there.

Are you staying or going? Toodles!

Rant Attack!

[video=ciYxl2ev5bwNvzXf]

Well, whaddya know? An actual video. The video problem that has been around from last week has been dealt with and now we can put up videos again until it happens again sometime.

Anyway, I did this video last week and what is it about? Well, its a rant quite frankly. You know the whole business involving people on forums and that basically blasting reviews, reviewers, sites etc and saying they are leaving etc. Well, its about that but certain other things as well so you may or may not watch it but if you do, let me know what your thoughts are because I know not everyone is going to agree with me.

Good news (for now at least), I finally got the 360 package and when my brother gets up, I will check to see if it works and I hope it does so I can finally get into Mass Effect and play some more COD 4 and AC. If not, I will blow a fuse of massive proportions! :P

That is all for now so until next time, toodles!

The Award Nominees Part 2 and More Ranting

Hello once again. Yesterday, I gave you my nominees for 11 out of 22 categories and today I am going to present to you the rest. Keep in mind once again that this is a first draft and certain categories can change with games being taken out and other ones being added in but at this rate, they could be still there when the time comes (more on that later). Some of you have been confused at certain nominees but like I said, its a draft and not final. Note that the Blast From the Past Award consists of old games that have been re-released on XBLA or the Wii Virtual Console that I have played. Anyway here are the nominees for the remaining 11 categories and give me your thoughts on them:

Best Graphics: Okami, Eternal Sonata, Super Mario Galaxy, Heavenly Sword

Best Sound: God of War II, Eternal Sonata, Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4

Best Story: Eternal Sonata, Okami, The Darkness, Heavenly Sword

Best Use of the Wiimote: Trauma Centre: Second Opinion, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Blast From The Past Award: Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Lylat Wars, Streets of Rage 2, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Best XBLA Game: Bomberman Live, Aegis Wing, Puzzle Quest, Heavy Weapon

Best Rhythm Game: Elite Beat Agents, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Best Multiplayer Game: Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Team Fortress 2

Look Out For... Award: LittleBigPlanet, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Grand Theft Auto IV, Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots, Ninja Gaiden 2, Burnout Paradise, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Playstation Home

Best Cover-Art: Eternal Sonata, God of War II, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy III, The Darkness

Best Use of Achievements: Blue Dragon, Bioshock, Guitar Hero II, Eternal Sonata

Best Boss: The Colossus of Rhodes (God of War II), Bowser (Super Mario Galaxy), Ninetails (Okami), Big Daddy First Encounter (Bioshock)

So there you have it for now at least. Those are the nominations for the 22 categories that will be apart of my Best of Awards coming in mid-December provided that the video problem is fixed by then because at this rate, it won't.

Now, here I go again to whine about the lack of 360. FYI, it STILL hasn't arrived and I am at the point of p***** off. You see, the seller despatched it last Thursday for a next working-day delivery. So if all went according to plan, it should have been by Monday at the very latest. But the handling of the package didn't even begin until Monday and the last update from the tracking no I received in that it arrived at Manchester Terminal at 3:56am yesterday morning and it has been there ever since. Someone please answer me this: What the hell was wrong in not shipping it out yesterday? It was there all day and nothing happened at all. I paid £20 for the shipping and I feel ripped off paying that if this is the way it was going to be. The seller is not to blame but the stupid DHL, or as I'd like to call them Delayed Handling Limited. For a next-day delivery package to take a week or more to get here is just absolutely ludicrous to say the very least.

Also, the other 360 package is away and at this rate, I will get that one back before the one I whined about above. I just want to play Mass Effect, is that too much to ask? Apparently so to someone out there. Until next time, toodles!

PS. Darro's Dominion probably won't happen this week if this overdue video processing problem isn't fixed by then.

UPDATE: The package has finally left Manchester as the last update was today at half past 2 and it was on the Northern Ireland Sea (Irish Sea) so by luck, I will have it tomorrow HOPEFULLY!

The Award Nominees Part 1 - First Draft

I am in a bit of a roll in doing daily blogs these last few days and well I have another one for you guys today. Yesterday, I spent some time deciding the nominees for each of my 22 categories in the Best of Awards that will occur mid-December. As you can see from the blog title, this is the first draft because certain categories can change in a space of a few weeks because of the fact that I haven't played a lot of several games I want to play like Mass Effect and Asssassin's Creed. So once I delve into them and that I will have a final draft of my nominees sometime before the actual awards occur. Anyway here are the nominees for the first 11 categories and let me know what you think:

Game of the Year: Okami, Super Mario Galaxy, God of War II, Eternal Sonata, Halo 3

Best Wii Game: Super Mario Galaxy, WarioWare Smooth Moves, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Best 360 Game: Eternal Sonata, Halo 3, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Bioshock

Best PS2 Game: Okami, God of War II

Best PC Game: Portal, Team Fortress 2, Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar

Best Nintendo DS Game: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Elite Beat Agents, Final Fantasy III

Most Overrated Game: Final Fantasy XII, Halo 3

Disappointment of the Year: Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Final Fantasy XII

Best Role-Playing Game: Eternal Sonata, The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion: The Shivering Isles, Blue Dragon

Best Shooter: Halo 3, Bioshock, The Darkness, Call of Duty 4

Best Action/Adventure: God of War II, Okami, Super Mario Galaxy, Heavenly Sword

Again, this is just the first draft and feel free to give me your suggestions on any other awards or nominees etc. The other 11 categories will be shown in tomorrow's blog so stay tuned for that. So until next time, toodles!

OT: I see that the processing problem still hasn't been fixed. Also, I should be getting my 360 for sure tomorrow, as its only been sort of handled etc yesterday for some reason even though the seller despatched it last Thursday (got an email to prove it) for next working day delivery. Probably because its the busy time of the year.
