Darro's Best of 2007 Awards

Hello folks! Here it is in all of its 6 part glory, my best of 2007 awards. As I said yesterday, I put some work into this to make it somewhat decent and not your crap you tend to see around, even though people are going to say that about mine while they did something worse or nothing at all. In these videos, you will see a total of 27 categories and their winners announced so a lot to see within. Let me know what your thoughts are and whether you agree or disagree with certain ones (don't mind what I said at the end about that). Credit and thanks goes to Scotty992 for allowing me to use his 2007 video as my intro to these awards and also have an outro sequence using a great song from a certain RPG.

There might be some slight audio problems perhaps here and there but hopefully that is not a nuisance to you folks who take the time to read and watch my blogs week in and week out. This is a big thank you for you guys so enjoy this 2 hour or so extravaganza and I will see you back again here tomorrow with my Best Day Ever video that is apart of the event that my good friend Mike (EightBitWarrior) set up.

Toodles!

Best of Awards coming tomorrow!

You read that right folks. My Best of 2007 Awards will be up in its entirety tomorrow so look out for that. It is a pretty damn long session if I do say so myself and it is spilt into 6 parts ranging from around 15-25 mins along so you do the math on how long it is.

I worked pretty hard on this, getting the footage, editing and doing voiceover so hopefully you guys out there appreciate it. Even though I ain't using the best software in the world, I did well for what I had available to me.

I also hope to be getting Nights: Journey of Dreams tomorrow in the post since it was posted today and will blame the post immensely if it does not come tomorrow. :P Anyway, look out for the awards, keep on gaming and rock on!

Toodles.

Darro's Dominion Episode XIII

[video=JnNhwzf-5bwIvDbe]

Hello, people of Gamespot. It is Darro here with the first episode of Darro's Dominion of 2008. I talk about several subjects within this episode including the current problems Live seems to be having and overall thoughts on Mass Effect.

In other news, I have completed my 3rd game this year, which was Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. I found it to be quite enjoyable like I have done with the other ones in the series but I am a RAC fan at the end of the day so I am going to be somewhat biased. Also started on Ico last night (I know I stated I will start with it on February but just decided to start it now since I heard its not really long). I only played about 30 mins to an hour but it is pretty cool thus far and looking to play more this weekend.

Also, I see that Alex Navarro is leaving Gamespot at the end of the month and this is it in terms of the staff members I really enjoyed watching since there is no one now that I can personally say I enjoy watching now. I like a few of them don't get me wrong just they are not my favourites and Alex was one of my favourites. Best of luck to him in whatever he does, which I believe will be something with Jeff.

Anyway, look out for my Best of Awards sometime next week and the award winners are entirely my opinion and no one else's so if you are going to whine about so and so, then don't bother commenting at all. Anyway take care, keep on gaming and ROCK ON!!

Toodles.

Most Anticipated Games of 2008 Part 2

Welcome back folks to my most anticipated games of 2008. Yesterday I talked about three pretty different games and today, I will be talking about three more and why I am anticipating them. Lets get started again.

Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)

I had this in last year's but due to the fact that it got delayed, it is not crossed over into 2008. The thing that made or break this game for me was if there was going to be any online in it because it was rumoured this time last year that it would and eventually during last year, I was happy to find out that it will indeed have that feature hence it is a confirmed purchased. Unfortunately though, there is no official release date as to when its coming out here. Its been suggested that it wont be out here until the summer since it wasn't shown on the release schedule or whatnot. That will be crap if it is since its coming out in over a month in the US.

As I said last year, I really enjoyed Melee and its various modes and hopefully Brawl will surpass it with its new adventure mode and new characters into the fray, although not all of them I can go with (Pokemon Trainer, I'm looking at you). Hopefully, some people on here I know of are getting it so we can have great battles online and hopefully its done well and not laggy, like I have seen with DBZ BT 3 on the Wii.

Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360)

I believe pratically everyone was shocked and/or disheartened when they saw that this game was delayed from its original October 2007 release date to its Q2 2008 date for the time being. This is perhaps a lot of people's most anticipated game of this year and you could understand why because of the success of GTAs III, Vice City and San Andreas respectively. It is back once again in Liberty City and was a bit skeptic at first but looking at some of the screenshots, it looks like it will be more along the lines of actual New York, which of course Liberty City was based on. We don't know a whole lot about the game as of now but what we have learned thus far from he trailers and hands-on previews we've been reading around the net, it looks to be interesting. It looks like the GTA series is going in a different direction with the main character Niko coming from Eastern Europe and the storyline looks set to be intriguing also. I have always been a fan of the GTA games and this could be the best one yet. Rockstar haven't let us down yet so I have faith they will pull it off this time.

LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

This is a game that a lot of people are looking forward to now ever since they first saw it and well, I am one of them. It looks to be something totally kind of unique and different than what is out there and the way you can create your own levels using a variety of different objects and that. But in other words, its a game entirely based on creating levels etc, which are apart of certain PC games out there. But you can't put it down that way since from what people have seen of it, they just can't wait to get their hands on it and see what crazy designs and levels they can come up with and its a guarantee that you will see some weird ones out there when this game is released. Its going to be cool to see what sort of designs and levels my friends who have PS3s come up with and checking them out. I might have more fun with this game trying out other people's stuff than my own because I am not that creative a person but that all could change once this hits, which is scheduled to be out in the UK in September according to an article I read a few days ago. This could very well be one of the most popular games of 2008 or one of those critic darlings that sells awfully bad (Psychonauts, anyone?).

Well, thats Part 2 done and dusted! Stay tuned for tomorrow to find out what my final 3 games I am looking forward to most coming out in 08. Keep on Gaming!!

Most Anticipated Games of 2008 Part 1

Hey guys. This is Darro here bringing you the first part of my most anticipated games of 2008. I did this last year in 3 parts and will be doing it again stating some of the games that I am looking forward to this year and why. They are in no particular order now since it will be hard to do that methinks. Anyway lets get started with the first 3 games:

Nights: Journey of Dreams (Wii)

This is already out in North America and from what I seen, its been getting pretty mixed reviews but that doesn't stop me from anticipating it though. You may be wondering why I am looking forward to this. Well, its because I absolutely adore Nights Into Dreams for the Sega Saturn, as it is my favourite game for that system and was really happy to see that a sequel for the game was coming out. Nights Into Dreams is probably considered a cult c l a s s i c and not a lot of people I believe got to experience what a truly inspiring game it is. It probably won't be well received today but back in 1996 when it came out, it was something unique and different and thats why I love because it was that. I can still go back to it again and enjoy it for what its worth due to its delightful gameplay and exquisite music. This new edition has several new things that weren't in the first and certain aspects of the gameplay have changed but if I have half the fun I do with this one than I did with Into Dreams, I will be happy.

Rock Band (Xbox 360)

Yes, another game that is out in the other side of the Atlantic but alas not out here yet. I have seen comments on here stating it is coming out in March in the UK and I hope it is around that time but there is no official date as of today. I really have enjoyed the Guitar Hero games ever since I got the first one for my birthday back in 2006 and for what I've been hearing, this is better than Guitar Hero due to the fact that its just a lot of fun to play online with your friends with the various instruments on offer. I have been looking forward to this game for some time now since I really want to play the drums and have heard a lot of good things about it from the guys I talk to here on Gamespot and some people even named it their GOTY. The soundtrack from what I seen isn't probably as recognisable as GH III in my eyes (some songs I know nothing about) but that all could change once I get my vocal chords going while banging away on the drums. This game is going to ROCK!!

God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)

You had to see this coming, didn't you? Another God of War game on my most anticipated list is pretty obvious since I loved the first two games and now, it is coming to Sony's handheld console. From the footage I have seen thus far, it looks similar to its PS2 counterpart in terms of the gameplay and graphics, which is quite the feat considering its on a handheld. This game is set before the events of the first God of War chronicling the 10 years of service Kratos did for the Gods. This will be good to know exactly what occurred during that time and basically will get me pretty hyped up for when God of War III eventually comes around, which I assume will be in 2009. It will retain the excellent gameplay that the GOW games have to offer and of course, who can't forget the awesome context-sensitive kill animations? I am sure they will have some new ones for this iteration and I for one am looking forward to seeing what lays within this game when the time of release comes around.

Thats all for now. Stay tuned for tomorrow, as I will be going through three more games on my most anticipated of 2008. Until then, keep on gaming and ROCK ON!!

Choices: You Decide!

[video=JXw1lmT55bwIujfY]

Hey guys. This is Darren here asking you guys for a little favour. As you can see from my collection here on Gamespot, I have a lot of games and well I haven't finished a good number of those games and well I want to change that and reduce my backlog and get closer to that complete 40 games by the end of the year goal.

In this video blog, I ask you guys to pick two games from the list I show you and reasons are optional if you want to go that way but are not necessary. The two games will NOT be played right away, as I want to finish off the current litter of games I am currently playing like Mass Effect, Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction, Phantom Hourglass etc. More details will be explained in the video so check it out.

This weekend I will be doing what I did last year and that is do several blogs dedicated to some of my most anticipated games of the year and there is a fair few at the moment with more I am sure not yet announced (Shenmue III if there is any justice :P). Until next time, take care and toodles!

Two Years On!

Hey guys. It is now been 2 full years since I registered with Gamespot under the name Darrogamer06, which I really wish I can change because I hate that name. Its been quite an eventful two years where I have shared some great experiences online with fellow GS users and became good friends with those same people and acquiring some new ones along the way.

Just here to thank all of you for making the past two years eventful and wonderful and hope that this year will be just as swell with some good times.

In other news, I completed Call of Duty 4 on Hardened yesterday and it was a very enjoyable experience although a part in the No Fighting in the War Room mission got on my nerves. The last mission Game Over (not including the Epilogue one) was pretty awesome and just loved the way it ended. Don't worry not going to spoil anything for anyone who is still going through it but it was an action-packed ride from start to finish despite its pretty short length.

So that is 1 game down, 39 to go for my complete 40 games goal and only have to finish AC and ME now by the end of January for my 1st goal to be accomplished. Until next time, take care and toodles!

The Games completed in 2007 and gaming resolutions

I seen that Talor (TheWesker) and Tyler (Kenshin836) and various other people on the site did a blog listing the games that they completed in the year 2007. Well, since it is now 2008, my first blog will be dedicated to that very same thing. Now I know people out there completed a lot more games than I did and quite frankly, I don't care if they did or not. But some of these games were pretty long anyway and I could have finished more if I put my mind to it but what I completed, I am happy with. So here is the list of games that I completed during the year 2007 in no particular order:

Okami

Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time

Kameo: Elements of Power

Bully

Halo 3

Halo 2

Blue Dragon

Eternal Sonata

The Darkness

Dirt

Ratchet: Gladiator

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

Super Mario Galaxy

God of War II

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles - Rondo of Blood Remake

Portal

Sonic's Story in Sonic The Hedgehog (shouldn't really count this)

Bioshock

Tomb Raider Legend

Super Castlevania IV & Zelda: ALTTP (again) :P

Guitar Hero II (360 version)

Gears of War on Insane (although I first finished the game in 2006 so again shouldn't count)

Aegis Wing (but that game is short and pretty easy too)

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

The Elder Scrolls IV: The Shivering Isles (its an expansion I know but I completed the main storyline if that counts)

Sonic The Hedgehog (XBLA version)

Double Dragon (short as well)

Golden Axe (XBLA version)

Open Season

TMNT

Heavenly Sword

Bullet Witch

Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix

Dead Rising (got the true ending, which absolutely sucks)

Ninety-Nine Nights (well the first campaign but again shouldn't count)

NBA Street Homecourt

The Simpsons Game

TMNT XBLA

That is all the ones that I remembered completing in the year 2007 but I believe there could be a few more to add if I remember them. Not a bad list though if I do say so myself but this year I want to surpass that and complete even more games throughout 2008. Here are my gaming resolutions for 2008:

1. Complete Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed & COD 4 by the end of the month

2. Complete Final Fantasy IV, VI & VIII by the end of the summer

3. Beat Hard Career in Guitar Hero III (One is still blocking my path)

4. Complete Half-Life 2 and its episodes.

5. Complete Banjo-Tooie.

6. Complete at least 40 games by the end of the year.

Yeah, they are all completion goals but I want to complete some of these games though so that the backlog of course is reduced some more throughout 2008. There will be big games out this year that will hinder my path in some of them but if I am determined to complete these 6 goals, I will do them. Anyway, heres to a great 2008 and keep on gaming!

Darro's Dominion Episode XII: A Look Back

[video=JnNlwjeq5bwPszXY]

Hey guys, this will be my final blog and final video blog of this year since of course it is the last day of the year but what a year it has been for gaming. Big game after big game came out this year and most of them lived up to expectations and some well did not and are considered disappointments. Inside, I talk about the past year in my own way and although I could have gone into more detail on certain things, I did a decent job so watch the show and enjoy!

The Best of Awards will take place sometime mid January, as I want to go and play some more of the nominees etc before I make my final decision on certain categories and there will be a few more categories from the draft I shown you a while ago.

Anyway, all I have left to say is hope you guys had a great 2007 and have a happy new year and keep on gaming and ROCK ON!!!
