@Dasein808: you've triggered me.

I hope your not offended by this suggestion of a male body part.

You wouldn't want to censor me would you?

There. Now you have that image forever in your memory.

Your welcome.

Sure thing guy, if I was bothered by human anatomy I probably would have objected to your previous cock post, and yet, I didn't.

I am amused by your "what about the children" argument while posting a fully rendered severed head dicknose in comparsion to a youtube still of a woman's clothed crotch with no visible vaginal features.

I think you're a crypto-misogynist, lol.

J.P. Witkin puts your attempted edgelordry to shame.

More like, they realized kids wanted to feel more mature by playing adult content.

I didn't see any adults clamoring for MKII but me, as a blood thirsty teenager, wanted games to be gorey and disgusting and violent. Now that I'm an adult that stuff doesn't appeal to me as much.

Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree to an extent. I've been gaming since the Magnavox Odyssey 2 and the console market was niche, at best, at the time.

I played the Atari 2600's Adventure as a square with a line and crossbar extending to the right to represent my sword. The sound effects were terrible as were the graphics potential for representation of anything but the most rudimentary of shapes.

When I started PC gaming, games were still being sold in Ziploc bags. The fact is, gaming only really became a "mainstream" hobby once the graphics and sound were good enough to attract the less than nerdily inclined as well as many more women.

In the place and time that I grew up, gaming, or more specifically, any gaming that was not on a console and sports based, used to be social kryptonite, and I don't think a lot of newer, younger, gamers even understand this fact.

Watch Can't Buy Me Love for an unfortunately accurate representation of many 80s suburban high schools in the U.S.

I was proud to have successfully converted two Gen X girlfriends into gamers using EQ and WoW respectively. One still plays WoW to this day.

As production values increased, so did the potential for representation of custom characters and, for a lot of gaming's newer audience, this was a significant draw.

They didn't necessarily want to play as Mario, or Ms. Pac-Man, or a spaceship in Sinistar. They wanted a character that reflected themself (or their "idealized" fantasy version of themself), because, in my opinion, they're often narcissistic and incapable of playing as anything they can't explicitly "identify" with; whereas gamers that had been through the evolution in abstraction, while grateful for the opportunity for custom characters, often don't care as much for that ability as they do with the overall quality of the game.

The Witcher 3 is a perfect example for me. Would I prefer the ability to play as a custom witcher?

Perhaps, but I recognize how difficult this can be to adapt such a meticulously crafted narrative around a non-specific protagonist. Geralt is well defined both through the books and the previous games and while I look nothing like him, I can identify and empathize with the character which, for me, is all that is required for narrative immersion

I, and many other former college students, played MK II in an arcade in '93. I was also legally an adult.

Your observation was likely limited by the places you were playing. Even so, I've always been more of a PC gamer and only went to the arcade when my console friends wanted to go.

I'm interested in the latest MK simply because I haven't played in ages, and I agree that kids always look to hit above their weight class in terms of "edgy" media consumption.

I did it with Friday the 13th, Piranha, and Nightmare on Elm Street, but I did it behind my parents back, so it's not like they could have prevented it.

@Dasein808: devs have the right to their own creative vision

Not in the public domain. That is why we have ratings boards. Because having my face thrust into Bayonetta's vagina repeatedly feels like I'm being somehow molested.

Wrong, it's the entire reason the ratings boards were founded.

If you're arguing "public domain" in the context of youtube videos, then that's an issue that has nothing to do with the developers and everything to do with the media outlets/youtube not age-restricting their content.

Developers recognized that older (OG) gamers wanted more mature content and created the ratings system to allow exactly for that while still allowing for the Super Mario-type kids' content and placing the rightful responsibility on parents to be able to make their own decisions.

Were I a parent, I'd probably be a bit more concerned about livestreamed media's propensity for psychic damage to children than media consumption that parents can actively play a role in determining.

I'm sorry you fear women (or are a "crypto-misogynist"), but that's like your issue, man.

I have no doubt you think that you are, but Llanfairpwllgwyngllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch > you

Btw, wtf is your point?

I've never played the game, but I believe devs have the right to their own creative vision, and self-righteous wet blankets look to stifle that freedom.

Are you frightened by a clothed woman's body, or just women in general?

You're either a, "durr, joke's on you guys, I was only pretending to be retarded," type or a legitimate resetERA escapee. It's impossible to tell the difference these days because we passed peak absurdity back in 2014.
