Easiest Song Ever

I previously would have given the title of easiest to "Where Is My Mind" by Pixies, but I have a new one. "Silver Rocket" by Sonic Youth, is not only incredibly easy, but als sounds awesome. I'll admit the tunings are beastly, and take awhile, but I just picked up om Thruston and Lee's parts in five minutes, and learned how to create that great noise jam sound. For the noise jam, I turn the distortion up to the max, kick in the phaser to start, and mess around using the chorus, flange, tape echo, and delay effects. It makes an almost perfect sound when you smack the back of the neck, get really close to the amp, use a whammy (I just bend the neck on my SG), and slide into random high notes (or very low notes). I always perfected the tone in seconds. The funny part was, I have presets built into my amp, and then I just use the footswitch to switch effects and distortion (more often than I use my pedals). I can set presets, and I have one I made for "Glorified G". It's a little strange becasue of how different the songs are, but the tone for the whole song (except the solo which has a little more distortion) sounded just like "Silver Rocket." Two guitar parts learned in a few minutes, and a badass noise jam. That will be my second cover (I'm paying friend to be my producer and mixer, and he's also the one who might play bass on a few). In short, I rock your socks, and my noise jam is better than your noise jam. Fin.

In unrelated news, my score was reduced 40% for writing a review that trashed George Bush.

In unrelateder news, I just burned milk while making hot chocolate, and the smell gave me a headache.

In unrelatedest news, here are the results from my poll on the Best Music Era.

'60s: 6% (2 votes), my 2nd pick

'70s: 18% (6 votes), my third pick

'80s: 24% (8 votes), my fourth pick

'90s: 29% (10 votes), my first pick

'00s: 24% (8 votes), my last pick

So, according to the TV.com members, the best music goes:

1. In the '90s.

2/3. In the '80s and '00s.

4. In the '70s.

5. In the '60s.

I thought that was bullcrap, as I believe it should have gone:

1. '90s

2. '70s (I liked the '60s better, but there were more great bands in the '70s)

3. '60s

4. '80s

5. '00s

But that's people for ya, sh!t taste.

In unrelatedester news, the hot chocolate powder I used is old crap, and when I opened up the can, the powder made a cloud and my nose burns from it. I'm just miserable :P.

Covers I'll Make

I've decided on seven covers I will make. Here they are, in order that they'll be made.

"Mayonaise" by The Smashing Pumpkins

"Glorified G" by Pearl Jam (with an extremely badass improvised solo)

"Silver Rocket" by Sonic Youth (I might add in a normal solo during the noise jam, for extreme badassery (haven't pulled that word out recently have we Elmis?(I looked up the tab, and it's really easy)))

"Where Is My Mind?" by The Pixies (sorry Elmis, gotta copy you for a second)

"I Am One" by The Smashing Pumpkins (almost done learning, just gotta figure out what to do for the solo, improv or same(with bass maybe)

"Halo Of Ashes" by The Screaming Trees (gonna start learning it tomorrow)

"Purple Haze" by Hendrix

I'm very confident about the first four, and the others might be good too.

I Plan To Rock

I'm still figuring out my recording thing, it's a bit complicated. I'll make my cover as soon as I can, but until then, I'm just learning more and more songs. I'll list some I just learned, and give a couple for you to vote on me learning.

LEARNED

"Glorified G" by Pearl Jam

"Where Is My Mind?" by The Pixies

"I Am One" by The Smashing Pumpkins (well, almost done learning it)

"Fake Plastoc Trees" by Radiohead (just figuring out the song structure)

VOTE ON THESE, WHICH ONE?

"Hummer" by The Smashing Pumpkins (a long A$$ song, it would take a while)

"This Is A Call" by Foo Fighters

"Even Flow" by Pearl Jam

"Scentless Apprentice" by Nirvana

"Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns 'N Roses (I can play most of this, I'd have to change the solo)

"Mommy's Little Monster" by Social Distortion

"The Wind Cries Mary" by Jimi Hendrix

"Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction

"World Wide Suicide" by Pearl Jam (so easy I'll learn it regardless)

"Go" by Pearl Jam

"Halo Of Ashes" by The Screaming Trees

"Spoonman" by Soundgarden

"Say Hello 2 Heaven" by Temple of the Dog

"Silver Rocket" by Sonic Youth

Pick three of those, and I'll learn the three most requested.

20 BEST Bands of the Last 25 Years (different than last time)

I got a complaint from Elmis, and I realized from what he said that I should ignore popularity and sales, and base it on talent and influence. For example, I knocked down RHCP because they weren't that influential.

1. Radiohead- I will not move them from 1st, and that's final.

2. The Pixies- Created grunge, "Where Is My Mind?" and "Brick Is Red" rock.

3. Pearl Jam- scream bias, but I'm not taking them off.

4. Nirvana- broke open the barrier between grunge and mainstream.

5. The Smashing Pumpkins- this time it's not out of bias, I just won't deny their talent.

6. Soundgarden- possibly the greatest grunge band in terms of talent along with Pearl Jam.

7. My Bloody Valentine- the greatest underground band of all time, basically.

8. Guns 'N Roses- I'm sorry, I don't want Tweek and Robo to kill me, plus I'm a big Slash fan.

9. Pavement- Stephen Malkmus is one of the greatest songwriters ever.

10. Jane's Addiction- the fact is, they practically invented funk-metal which is why they deserve every bit as much attention as Red Hot Chili Peppers.

11. The Stone Roses- I haven't got into them yet, but according to Elmis, they invented Brit-pop, nand inventing a genre gets you on a list automatically.

12. Red Hot Chili Peppers- I have to put them on here somewhere. Look up top 200 lists of all time, and every member of the band is in one of them respectively according to instrument.

13. Rage Against the Machine- I'm not taking them off wither because of undeniable skill.

14. Alice in Chains- as I said lat time, Layne and Jerry are huge inspiration to anybody who likes grunge.

15. The Screaming Trees- they just missed their oppurtunity to get big, but it takes skill to create such a unique style of your own.

16.Blur- one of the best Brit-popbands, that I've actually heard.

17. Dinosaur Jr.- read my last blog.

18. Beck- upon Elmis' request, even though it's not a band, I must include Beck.

19. Sublime- I realize I'll get a complaint, but I'm keeping them on here.

20. Temple of the Dog- this combined Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, and pretty much created Pearl Jam as we know it because Eddie was unknown then, and Cornell introduced him to PJ. That is why thhey're here.

NOTE: I have trouble placing RHCP, I sometimes think they should be #5 here, or lower like it is here. This is not in perfect order either.

15 Greatest Bands of the Last 25 Years/Free Hat

This means the ten greatest that formed within the last 25 years. This is based on popularity, talent, influence, and the fact that I know all. Some great bands, like The Pixies, will not be included because they didn't get what they deserved.

1. Radiohead- undoubtedly one of the most talented bands of all time. Disagrre with their #1yness,and I will kick both you, and Bon Jovi in the nuts.

2. Pearl Jam- best American band of all time. Don't you Aerosmith me because, Eddie will beat Steven in writing songs any day, and Mike and Stonekick the sh!t out of Joe. If you disagree, Elmis will "eat your first born", and I'll eat your second, good luck with a third :P.

3. Nirvana- If you get into saying they're overrated, I will personally jump to where you live, and shove your monitor up your a$$.

4. Red Hot Chili Peppers- I'm not saying this out of bias, Frusciante, Flea, and Chad Smith all compliment each other perfectly, and in the day Kiedis was the funkiest.

5. The Smashing Pumpkins- before you start screraming about bias, having my three favorite bands all in the top five, I would like to shut you up. Corgan is an incredible songwriter and guitarist, and Jimmy is one of the best drummers of all time. Everybody knows the situation of Corgan typically doing everything but thedrums every time, but it doesn't discredit it at all.

6. Soundgarden- If you take Cornell, the greatest singer of all time, Thayil, one of the best guitarists, Cameron, do I need to explain, and Shepherd, who has some great basslines, and out them in a band, you're going to have something unforgettable. One of the most talented bands.

7. Guns 'N Roses- Before Tweek and Robo give me hell about their position, I would like to address Axl. He sings in just about the most damaging way possible. This is fact. not opinion. He had some of the greats behind him, but he was nowhere near the best. Slash was the real show, so I can't say they're near the best ever (due to negative Axl comments, I expect hate posts)

8. Rage Against the Machine- I was never a huge RATM fan, but I can't deny some great lyrics, and the unbelievable guitar stylings of Tom Morello. The thing that got them on the list was success.

9. Jane's Addiction- These guys would be higher, if it weren't for underratedness (am I making up words or what?). One listen to "Rotual de lo Habitual" will show you their undeniable place in history.

10. Stone Temple Pilots- They're on here mainly due to popularity, but they're hard to dislike. Scott has a very unique, weird voice, which is what I like in vocalists.

11. Alice In Chains- Layne, and Jerry, are huge inspirations to any grunge fan.

12. Oasis- Placed below the top 10 because of a huge decline, but you can't deny some of their greatness.

13. Sublime- Some may wonder "who?", but probably very few (observe the rhyme). They released three albums, and sold over 17 million. They have a 2x platinum, a gold, and a 5x platinum record. Deny their greatness and I'll smack you.

14. The White Stripes- I'm not a huge Stripes fan, but I can't deny that they're definitely one of the best bands of the decade, and Jack is one of the last great guitarists.

15. Dinosaur Jr.- They didn't quite get what they deserved, but whatever, good enough for the top Great band, with a singer who "sounds stoned 24/7". The guitar solos they have are undeniably great.

All "qualms" should be directed towards your monitor, and then written in the comment box, so I can make laugh and make fun (except about GNR, which I will take moderately seriously).

P.S.- There were tons of great bands like Sonic Youth and Metallica that missed the mark by a year, being from 26 years ago.

Song To Rock Out To:

I wanna either record these songs, or make a video. For some of them I could get my friend to play bass, like "I Am One", but I need help on figuring out which one to focus on. Here's the songs I'm considering.

"I Am One" by The Smashing Pumpkins (bass possible)

"In Your Honor" by Foo Fighters

"Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead

"Where Is My Mind?" by The Pixies (bass possible) (sorry Elmis, I wanna do this too)

"Glorified G" by Pearl Jam

"Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction

"Silver Rocket" by Sonic Youth (this isn't guranteed, I can't figure it out and I need a good tab)

"Jesus Christ Pose" by Soundgarden

I either know, or will learn all of these.

FUNNY STORY: I just got a call from some chick I met at a camp. She asked "Do you remember me?", and I didn't want to lie, so I said, "Uhhhhhh...no.", and then we said bye and hung up. If this was some hot chick I forget about, I'm pissed at myself.

And on the topic of "Free Hat" you'll have to excuse the extremely irrelevant quote from South Park. I've given you enough, stop getitng on me about giving you free hats!!!!!!!!!....................................................................................................................................................

Oh you, want to free Hat? It doesn't make a difference, get the hell out of here.

Quick Movie Review!!!

I finally saw Juno!!! I've wanted to for weeks, but haven't got the chance. It more than what I hoped for, and is without a doubt one of the year's best films. An added bonus is the discussion of awesome bands, mainly Sonic Youth. I could have knocked Juno out for saying the Sonic Youth album sucked though :P. Overall, it was very clever and loaded with quick jokes that capture real life essence more than most movies do. Excellent film.

I Have An Important Announcement!

I have a copy of "American Gothic", the new Pumpkins EP. It kicks much bottom, and is twice as good as "Zeitgeist, because Corgan cut the political crap, and this sounds like "Adore" a little. It seems like a return to form, on this amazing EP. If you disliked "Zeitgeist", it doesn't matter. This is more traditional Pumpkins, with great acoustic picking, and much better lyrics.

One More For Good Measure!

I got a crap load of iTunes gift cards for Christmas in case you were wondering. Normally, I would prefer to actually buy the album, but I had to spend the cards. Here's the one last one I bought.

"Pearl Jam" by Pearl Jam

Tonight, I will finish of my music bonanza year end finale (I realize I haven't bought a single album from this year), by listening to The Pixies "Surfer Rosa" and Pearl Jam's self-titled. This was the music blowout I was talking about earlier where I would buy all the albums that I could that I wanted. The two left on ly list are "Adore" by The Smashing Pumpkins (not sold in the iTunes sotre), and "Ritual De Lo Habitual" by Jane's Addiction (my last priority, although I've heard it kicks bottom). I'll get "Adore" with spare moneu I have, and I'll get RdlH if I can get $2.15 more into my iTunes account.

To kick of the night, here's a song to be released on their EP, "American Gothic" in January, which by the title, could be like one of their albums, "Adore". Please welcome my guest, The Smashing Pumpkins, playing their song, "The Rose March!" *wild cheer from the crowd, including you, the reader, yes you have to cheer when you comment*. Well, technically it's just Billy Corgan, but when it's released, it will have the whole band playing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8eLaKptYXk

Now, in lieu of uproarious cheer (which causes those around you to think you've gone insane) to my awesomeness, please comment on how much bottom the song and album kick. Goodnight!

*Bottom Kicking theme band plays goodbye music*

And here's a quick top 5 albums of the year (#1 will be controversial, as will #5)

5. "Zeitgeist" by The Smashing Pumpkins- I'm not insane. I did like this album, but it only gets mentioned here (it wouldn't otherwise) because it marks the return of The Pumpkins.

4. "New Maps of Hell' by Bad Religion- Hey, why the hell not? BR are great!

3. "Libertad" by Velvet Revolver- Guns 'N Roses+Stone Temple Pilots= Velvet Revolver1 Gotta love it!

2. "In Rainbows" by Radiohead- I think this is the best album that was really originally released this year (which means, besides the next)

1. "Daydream Nation (Deluxe Edition)" by Sonic Youth (this is a re-release)- No, I have not gone crazy, this was released in 1988. But, I figured since the deluxe edition was released this year, why not? It's a beast, and always has been.

Yeah, that should spark some controversy. The 5 that make it also show how few great bands there are any more.

Two More Albums!!!

No, this isn't a repeat blog. I bought two more albums.

"Surfer Rosa" by The Pixies

*This album cover has been removed because some mod will ban me for the nudity on it, thanks to bender21345 for the advice, and saving my butt from the mantle (I think I'll use that expression now)*

Forget that actually, upon further study, Elmis has it on his blog and it isn't deleted. Thanks to bender21345 for the great expression anyways. The elderly always have the best things to say :).

Haven't listened to it yet. I heard "Where Is My Mind?" so far, that's it.

"Dust" by The Screaming Trees

Elmis put this in his top ten, and said "Just try and think of who the hell they are..." From what I've heard, they're very unique and rocking. It should be a great album.

Two New Great Albums

Today, I picked up a few new CDs. Here they are.

Sonic Youth- "Daydream Nation"

Elmis once described Sonic Youth's sound as "plablocity", and said that their "plablocity was never better than it was on 'Daydream Nation'". I haven't finished listening to it yet, but so far it rocks socks. My favorite album of the '80s so far. It kicks the sh!t out of anything you'll find today.

"Temple of the Dog" by Temple of the Dog

This is without a doubt, the single greatest vocal perfomance album. Chris Cornell, the greatest singer ever, and Eddie Vedder, one of the greatest ever, play with Vedder's future bandmates in Pearl Jam, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, and Matt Cameron (also a then Soundgardener) to make one of the greatest grunge albums ever. "Say Hello 2 Heaven" is my favorite vocal song of all time. Eddie shines through on "Hunger Strike", and Mike and Stone deliver beautiful riffs and rocking solos. Matt will always be one of my favorite drummers, so he rocks as always. Jeff rocks too.

I know it seems like whenever I get new albums they get in my top ten, but these, could get in. "Daydream Nation", well if you've heard it you know why, and "Temple of the Dog" is absolutely amazing. I'm going to listen to them again tonight, and I'll review them, and see where they rank in my albums.
