What do you do for a living?

Thought I'd just share with my friends on GS what I do for a job, here's a couple of links of what I have to work around. I'm training to be a Electronics Engineer specialising in communications. Currently the field I work in, is the protection of these little buggers that your about to see. I work on the teleprotection systems between sub stations and microwave links so that faults dont occur like these. So batten down the hatches and check em out. Circuit Breaker transformer explosion

Today is a sad day

Well, what can I say... The dream house we had an offer on, was pulled from under our feet and sold to someone else. Its total legal bollocks, but that's the way scheming real estate agents work..... no happy at all... AND, today, its my mother's 74th birthday, I wish her the very best birthday up there in heaven...

OMG Part 2 - Star Trek & Transformers

Having not visited the Apple site for awhile, I stumbled across to see what's happening out there in movie land... Two major movies are upon us.... Star Trek - The new trailer 2 is amazing and about time someone got it right. AND Transformers 2 - Revenge of the fallen ..... simply amazing ... looks like a worthy contender for a better than first sequel... on a sadder note, one of my good GS friends is leaving, Mindless1987, pop over to his profile for one last hurrah... goodbye old friend ...

OMG where have you been all my life

Decided that my HDD was sane now so I thought it was time to install the games I got for xmas... Dead Space, do you ever need to play any game ever again .. well probably yes, but this game has totally blown me away. Having only just finished Bioshock, Dead Space's graphics, sound, gameplay .. well everything is just a masterful piece of programming, my hats off to the design team. Anyone who's legally allowed to play this should go out and buy it now... I'm gobsmacked......

Is there any good flight sims recently?

Ask a stupid question, but has there been any good arcade style flight simulators released in the last year?. I haven't been able to find any that are straight into the action without requiring 4 hands to control the plane. I've seen PLANE, and Flight simulator X, but they just dont do it for me. Any military style like the good ole F15 Strike Eagle days except with of course the lastest graphics support. I'm lost for words.....

A decision of mammoth proportions.

Two weeks ago I mentioned that this year was going to be the busiest year yet in my life since marrying my wife 10 years ago. Well I stand before you today to tell you that we've decided to buy a new house, a nice new BIG house to accomodate our family plus some room to put in a pool at a later stage. A mammoth decision because its getting us to move out of our comfort zone where we've have been for 10 years as well. Its another happy event for us. 2009 has started with a bang, I hope good luck and fortune will come to you all for Chinese New Year. Cheers Dev

2009 .. What awaits for me??

Well the year started off with a bang like most peoples. Fun, excitement, time with the family, and mostly a few hangovers.. but at least we had fun... Then the little HDD problem that cropped up, forced me to go and buy another HDD to backup all my holiday photos (that I'd just finished sorting). So now I can breathe a sigh of relief. well .. for a few days anyway... next up ... The rest of the year. The biggest news this year is that its my wife & I's 10th wedding anniversary in April so we've managed to survive and the trials and tribulations to get this far, here's hoping for another 50 years happy marriage.. To celebrate this we're thinking about moving away from our house of 10 years to something bigger and better. A strange time to move in the middle of a resession, but housing is at a low and its a good time to buy if you've got some savings put aside. I restart my never ending education to finish my Diploma in Electronic Engineering in 2 weeks, but this year, my employer will hopefully give me a day off a week to study and complete what's necessary... yahoo..... 4 day weeks for whole of the year, oh did I mention I get every 2nd monday off as well... I'm so happy with my current career change that I'm just happy as a pig in mud... My son starts school this year, well pre-primary anyway, a sad moment as you always want your kids to stay young but eventually they must grow up and have their own lives . :( Both my daughter and son will be hard at the books, drawing, painting, running around in the play area, all good stuff.. My game play has come to a screaming halt after I lost all my save games thru the HDD failure, so I've got to reinstall COD4, far cry 2, GRID and hopefully the massive backup I did before I can at least restore some files. So that's it in a nutshell, after 13 days into the year, another fullon one is coming. Hope you all have had a safe start to the year and look forward to keeping in touch Over and out Dev

Happy New Year ? .... yeah right ...

I was thinking to myself the other day, that new technology is just not built to with-stand years of use. You look at old cars, although they are fuel guzzlers and have none of the flashy gadgets, they seem to keep on going and going. A new car, well a computer goes and your car is stuck in the middle of the road until it gets to a repair shop and costs $1100 just for the central locking ..... A fridge built in 1959, is still going outside as our drinks fridge, our new westinghouse, bought 2003, is on the verge of death. The manufacturers just seem to have us by the neck as we need to get replacing our essential hardware we use everyday. Thus my story begins ... Built a new computer in October, using a Green Western Digital HDD, yesterday I thought I would install the couple of games I got for xmas, Call of Duty 4, and Dead Space. Played COD for about an hour before turning the machine off and enjoying a nice relaxing New Year's eve with my wife. This morning "Please insert system disc and press enter" ... well I thought okay, left the game disc in the drive, nope, no disc in drive. So off with the computer and on again. Same again ..... okay, check bios settings ... yep HDD is recognised... HDD smart monitoring is recognised in Post boot screen... but still same message. And I thought, just why would a HDD fail exactly 3 months after purchase, just happens to be the swap over period for WD... mmmmm... I am not amused..... Hope everyone's else NYE started better than mine.
