NO WAY!!! and put sony with a bad name?? Once blu-ray gets into the picture... m$ will face problems...
PS3 will go up 360 is finished then M$ will release anothere console... which hopefully doesnt get blu-ray... coz it'll fail badly. All 360 exclusives have to come 2 ps3 sometime right??
Other than gaming consoles i guess M$ needs to make all their software compatible with Blu-ray big blow!!
Blu-ray is by & large meaningless this generation. The only game which has used its space so far has been MGS & that's only because of how much HD FMV it has. Not because the game needed it. But because half the game is a HD movie which takes up tons of space. If it really has 90mins of 1080p movie files than the actual game should be about 5GB.
Why? Because the PS3 only has 256MB XDR & 256MB GDDR3. It doesnt matter how many GB the disc can hold, it can only handle that many MB of game data. And the large majority of the ram is taken up by textures & the game's OS engine. Considering most games load a level at a time. That's about 40 levels of maxed out content that would fit on a standard DVD.
The PS3 isnt going to grow more ram in the future. It is what it is. The Blu-ray player had more to do w/ the format war between HD DVD than it did games. Believing otherwise is naive.
P.S. I did actually agree w/ your statement that competition is good. Because competition spurs progress through ambition.
Wrong. I don't even need to explain why.
Also Blu-ray>DVD. And that's a fact.
lol. Nice try, but it's because you CAN'T, not because you dont need to.
If youre thinking of oblivion; it doesnt "take advantage" of BD, it has 2 copies of the game data to reduce seek time; because the data rate the 2x BD drive speed has is slower than DVD.
All MGS4 cutscenes are done realtime, just like every other MGS game. There is no FMV. This is why I didn't need to explain. It's common knowledge.
They used to be (mostly, there was still a little in each). But they arent in MGS4, they're FMV. If you look close at the game when you're playing it, then at the cutscenes youll notice they're pre-rendered. If you read the reviews, they mention it being FMV. If youre not blind, you can tell just by looking at it.
I have the game. They aren't pre-rendered, they just look that damn good. Sorry, try again.
And you know this HOW? You realize they're pre-rendered to have the same visual style of the game to keep continuity. Do you know what Aliasing is? Try looking for that in the cutscences.

"As you'd expect, you'll spend a lot of time watching cut-scenes, so if you found previous games' story exposition laborious, then you'd better find yourself a nice cushion and plenty of teabags in readiness for MGS4's.
"They can be skipped, but you'll be missing out on some of the [most finely] crafted examples of FMV footage anywhere in gaming."
