If you get yourself approved for the Sony Visa, then promptly purchase a Sony HDTV at the Sony Rewards store (out of a pool of models from the BRAVIA and SXRD lines)

the deal ends on December 31st

Note: I recc canceling the card after you pay your bill. Sony cards have a tendency to jack up interest pretty fast. Also pay early because they have a tendency to do this

Thanks for the link to monoprice. $18 dollars for the switch is an amazing price. When I was looking around the internet, the cheapest one I could find was $79.daplague420

Only a miniscule amount of monitors are actually 1080p (1920 x 1080) most are 1920 x 1200. which means its not a pixel-pixel representation and gets a little blurred in the interpolation.

My advice, dont use a monitor as a HDTV. but you can use a HDTV as a monitor (as most video cards will support 1920 x 1080 output).

I agree that 1080p may be negligble. But it is not useless below 40" ALWAYS. if you sit close to it, its not.

My Computer's monitor is only 24" but is higher res than 1080p. yet i can see all the detail discernably because i my head is only about a foot away from it.

Hey everybody. I just got a new PC (8800 GT, Core 2 Quad 6600 2.4 GHz, 2 GBs of memory) and I installed Crysis on my computer. Now, I have all the setting on very high and crysis is running fine, which obviously means that it is in DirectX 9.I would like to see how the DirectX 10 version looks but I don't know how to set it as such, since there is no where in the settings menu (unless I'm missing it) where I can say directx 10. Can anyone tell me how i do this? Thanks!jaymagic87

You need to be running Vista to get DX10. If you're running Vista and youre card is DX10 capable (which it is) then it will be on by default.

If you are running XP though, there is a hack. (though its not real DX10, its just DX9 emulating DX10)

i would stay away from BB when it comes to anything HDMI. their prices are insanely inflated.Djc8a3Pgh8syv

e.g. check out this Best Buy scam. to sell their $100 HDMI cable that's exactly the same as a $20 one from monoprice

the 3000 series is good. i wouldnt get anything earlier than that though. the 2000 series had clouding issues, and sony SUCKS when it comes to warranties.

for 1200 bux though, you can do much better.

Check deal sites. Read reviews & discussions about the deals. My advice, be patient and get the best TV you can reasonably afford that's on a good sale.

some sites to check (check daily if you have the money and are willing to purchase, since some of the best deals only last one or two days).

http://fatwallet.org/c/18/

(note: you can use the "Title Search:" to search for LCD or HDTV or Plasma or whatever.)

http://www.techbargains.com/

http://bensbargains.net/

e.g. there was a 42" Panasonic TH-42PX75U plasma for like $900 a month or so back (@ Sears). A much better TV imho.
