While I would love to start checking out new hardware for the next generation, these analysts have no idea how console announcements work. They usually mention their new systems well around 18 months before their actual launch.

Well, it's now 18 months till the end of 2013, and it's not looking good for your predictions. However, I'll will reserve assumptions if something happens to be shown at this year's TGS, but I'm not going to be holding my breath at all.

Please, GS, STOP posting these stupid analyst articles. Unless you have actual evidence supporting your predictions, you're pretty much full of crap.

So exactly how many years are needed for a console to get molded and fine-tuned? The PS3 has been a solid console since 2008, and there have been PLENTY of great PS3-exclusive games for it... and still coming for that matter.

I don't get people. They announce a new system, and suddenly they react like they have to abandon their previous systems in favor of the new one. You know, the PS2 still got plenty of attention during and after the PS3's launch.

There's still more than enough reason to keep enjoying your PS3. Hell, it would allow you to patiently bide your time while you wait for the PS4 to get fine-tuned and drop in price over its first year or so.The average console generation cycle has been about 5~6 years since the late 80s. It's kinda about that time again, whether we want it or not. Just don't be foolish and be one of the EARLY adopters. >_>;;

It's Gamespot. They post EVERY rumor as breaking news, even though there's no physical proof to back the stories up. I say just wait till next week's E3 and go by that. It'll shut everyone else up, heh.

And you waited 5 years to get one. What, so they announce a PS4 and you're just going to stop playing your PS3? I seriously doubt that, and knowing Sony on how well they treated the PS2 for an entire ten year shelf-run, your PS3's still going to get a ton of attention.

Once again, let me repeat myself: they still have yet to shed much light in the past two years.

"much light".... as in "not a whole lot"

I'm sure it won't be THIS bad, but 3D Realms showed gameplay of Duke Nukem Forever in 1999/2000, and we all know where that went.

Square is doing nothing to aggressively show it off. and with dancing rumors about a XIII-3 (seriously, this is getting stupid), who knows what they'll show off at E3. Regardless, it's been six years since the whole "Fabula Nova Crystalis" trilogy was announced, and we still have yet to see Versus XIII and XIII Agito.... anywhere!

Quite frankly, I could care less, being that I hated everything associated with XIII to begin with. It killed the franchise for me, and they're milking that goddamn sequel to unnecessary levels. If anything, they need to let it go and give fans Kingdom Hearts III. This pseudo-sequel crap has gotten way out of control.

Well, you can't really say they're all rich. Some of those people buy the system on day one, but end up owning zero games for it for months. My big question is this: Are they going to offer backwards compatibility?

Versus XIII? Please. They announced that before the PS3 even launched in Japan, and they still have yet to shed much light on the game's development in the past two years.

I'm calling it Square's "Episode 3" that will probably remain in limbo for another half decade.

But then again, God of War II came out on the PS2 in 2007, AFTER the PS3 launched, so who's to say they have to stop making games for the PS3 just because the new PS4 shows up?

Not only that, can you imagine the problems arising with the release of a 50GB sized game at its midnight launch, and millions of players trying to download it all at the same time? I don't think any cable provider is willing to support that level of overloaded bandwidth.

@DrBhup

Try explaining that to the folks who plan on camping outside Best Buy and Gamestop stores to get their PS4s at the midnight launch. Trust me, even if there are ZERO worthwhile games available until several months later, people will still flock to be first to own one. They're like cattle.

@AnGiTheGamer

But who's saying you CAN'T enjoy your PS3? I've had mine since 2007, and I still enjoy my PS2 just as much. :)
