@Sohereiam Of course they're greedy. The whole reason the merger took place to begin with was because Enix rescued them from bankruptcy after the severe failure of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within back in 2001.
So out of fear of losing cash again, they're just half-assing newer titles in hopes that people will buy them on their name alone. The only reason why they're staying afloat for now is because of FF's popularity, and the fact that at least Enix still knows how to make good stuff.
I have a better solution, Square. How about you ditch your overly-cinematic, extremely linear teeny-bopper RPGs and go back to the form that made your games so mind-blowing and awesome to begin with?
Oh... and learn how to keep a schedule. You know we're now past six years since you announced Versus XIII back in May 2006? Not that I should personally care. You've lost my loyalty to the FF series with XIII to begin with, but your fans have been waiting for way too long for what seems like nothing.
@armodillo17 Umm.... Do a little more research. The PS1's life span was pushed to about 8 years from 1995 to 2003, and the PS2 kept chugging for a full decade.
Hell, even the Game Boy Kicked all sorts of ass for almost eleven years.
@ExplicitMike I've been playing fighting games since the original Street Fighter II in the arcades back in the early 90s. I personally have no problem with memorization when it comes to learning a character.
My argument with this article is how Harada claims that the screen is a "distraction", when I honestly don't see how it is. I'd likely never use the screen, or would probably resort to using the other controller instead. I find it to be a copout excuse, if anything at all.
However, how much different of a distraction is it when compared to times when newcomers are constantly fumbling around, trying to remember/learn moves by pausing the game and looking them up during matches? Constantly glancing down at a move list in a book or on the pause menu... how would that be so much different than having them displayed on the screen itself? It wouldn't.
Why not just optimize the game to not use the touch screen at all? My point was just that he's making a big deal out of something that isn't really all that worrisome. I want a functional game. I don't care what the touch screen does. :|
So you're saying if the touch screen did something like, oh I don't know.... have a complete move list for the character you're playing, that would be a distraction?
Because referring back to a booklet, or going as far as to constantly hitting pause in mid-battle (like Mortal Kombat) is SO much less distracting, right?
Harada is a bit closed-minded with this, honestly. I'm not crazy about the controllers myself, but I do see the benefits they can offer with certain games. Seriously, it could be something as simple as displaying the basic control functions of your fighter. That sounds like quite a convenience if you ask me.
@samantha_sneez Once again, you obviously haven't been following Ubisoft's track at all. They will not be tapping into Hollywood, and they have stated this numerous times in the past year. Being that a single game costs about as much to make as a major film, Ubisoft has their own funding. The term "independent" should have rang a bell for you almost immediately.
They want their property to be handled correctly, and they know that in order to do this, they have to make the film themselves, and not with the meddling hands of some crappy filmmaker.
Now you're getting all worked up about a release date? Who said anything about a release date? did you even read my post to you?
Again, I actually read the article, and I actually followed past stories regarding their interest in making an AC film. Other people have too, hence why you don't see as many people like you assuming that it's going to be yet another Hollywood atrocity, like 99% of all other video game adaptations.
There's nothing wrong with speculation, but at least research the actual facts before making yourself look silly.
@samantha_sneez Yeah, that's if they let Hollywood do it. They aren't, so these silly jokes and assumptions about Bay and Boll are irrelevant. Did you not read the part where it stated that Ubisoft was pretty much making the first film themselves as an independent project?
@vader501st Have you ever tried installing your games on your 360's hard drive? It not only runs a bit smoother, but it also reduces wear on your disc drive. It's nice to play games without the whirring sound of my XBOX drowning out the effects.
I really don't see how this news is an issue. I install every game I play, and I uninstall it when I'm finished. The only inconvenience that's there is the 5-10 minutes it takes to do so.
But that can be the perfect amount of time to make a sandwich and grab something to drink. THE HORROR!
@Psycold You ARE aware that this has nothing to do with PC gaming, aren't you? How about you try and stick to the topic at hand before you randomly brag about how many gigabytes you have on your computer, hmmm?
