Historically speaking, there have always been terrible problems on this planet. It only feels like the end of the world when you're going through it. Nations that have industrious people with a strong work ethic will get past these problems and pick themselves up. Nations with people who cling on to backward ideologies and keep playing the blame game will remain behind, and will always suffer.

Also, historically speaking, when an outside power invades another nation, destroys its native power structure only to leave at a later time, there is a power vacuum that is often filled with violence. There has always been war in Africa and the world, but colonialism and it's imposed borders and social structures really messed up Africa.

By no means am I condoning colonialism, but I'm pretty sure Africa was almost always messed up due to backward ideologies and belief systems. The Western world has, for the most part, gotten past these barriers to progress. Africa, and a large part of the developing world, have not.

That's a pretty big assumption that Africa has almost always been messed up. What sort of backward ideologies and belief systems are you talking about?

Bad things happen in all countries, in all forms of government. It doesn't change the fact that capitalism is the better option. As for poor people working hard...you can work as hard as you want as a janitor, but it doesn't change the fact that there are enough people out there who are more than qualified to do your job, and hence, you won't get very far.

If, however, you choose to slog through medical school...a profession that requires a lot more intelligence and knowledge than being a janitor, and is something that most people are not qualified to do, I don't see why you shouldn't be making a whole lot more than a janitor. You put in the effort, time, and resources to make something of yourself, and it shouldn't all have to go to people who did not make the same sacrifices that you did.

Is the world unfair? Sure it is. But it's that way for everyone, in all countries. Certain third-world nations make no effort to improve themselves. And Western nations get demonized no matter how much they try to help.

Who says capitalism is the better option? It is the ruling system now and look at the world right now. Most economies and in the verge of collapse, more social problems than in any other time in history, we are depleting and destroying natural resources from the planet. Yeah if this is the best then I'll hate to see the worse since then we are basically doomed. No I think there are much better options.

many times especially now im noticing more about africa and how they are bassicly starving in many areas and the solution for alot of people is just to send more food to stop them from starving...

i wanna look at this from a logical standpoint

isnt giving africa food and help even worse then doing nothing at all? isnt it just going to prolong suffering?

for instance if we didnt send food the population would balance out to the amount of resources they have available. Not only would this be good for africa this would save us money and help address (atleast a little bit) the population issue we will have in the near future.

i dunno to me it just seems kinda odd and backwards to give resources at random intervals to barely sustain a population which will end up suffering no matter which way we go.

fl4tlined

From my understanding, the main cause of the famine this time is a massive drought. Whether or not it was caused by climate change is debatable.

It's similar to wildfires out west, tornadoes in the midwest, hurricanes in Florida, etc. Why should the Federal government use funds from other states to help them? Why not just let them suffer and move on so in the future we won't have to deal with it.

1. Cowboy Bebop

2. Cowboy Bebop

3. Paranoia Agent.

If you haven't seen Bebop, watch it. Then look for the fabled 26th episode. (and marvel at the great music)

If you havent seen Paranoia Agent, watch it. Visit Japan (or read its news). Then have your mind blown.

Uday Hussein (Saddam's son) from the Devil's Double. It's scary because it's an actual person. Apparently the director had to cut out a lot of stuff because he didn't want to make it a horror movie. He even disgusted his father, Saddam Hussein.

It's OK. Just ok. It's better than polluck though. now that's a flavorless fish. I guess that's why fishsticks are so bland.

I like how they waited until after the market closed today though. However Monday will not be pretty. Hopefully the government will change the number of available jobs so our unemployment will look like 5% and the market won't crash as hard. ferrari2001
Yeah. They admitted to releasing it on Friday so that people had time to think about it over the weekend. Apparently this is also related to the big dropoff we had on Wednesday. That was a big correction that was found out somewhere along the line.
