Had exactly the same problem when I was putting together a machine for my brother. In the end it turned out to be a faulty power supply. Worst thing was that I first thought it was a used motherboard I had gotten from a friend so I bought a new one, and on top of that the power supply I used was brand new. Thus I ended up buying an extra motherboard and an extra power supply. In the end I was so relieved that I didn't even bother returning the power supply, which might working for all I know, just not compatible with the motherboards I used, even though they should be. Some fancy power saving earthwatts thingie..
EDIT:
Oh and another thing; This is what happened to me with another computer.
On your motherboard you might have a 4-pin and a 20-pin power sockets either separately or together as a 24-pin socket. Same thing with your power supply. Sometimes they just won't work together.
I tried putting the 24-pin connector from my power supply on the corresponding socket on my motherboard, but no dice.
In the end I had to use the 20 first pins on my motherboard leaving the last 4 unused and then connect the other 4 pins from my power supply on a separate 4-pin socket on my motherboard.
Most of the time if your power supply has the 24-pin connector you can easily clip off the extra 4 pins, there's supposed to be a thin plastic bridge between the 20 and 4 pin connectors.
Now could I be any more unclear about what I'm tryin to say? :O
Oh you should really give us some more info on what you like or you'll get endless list of games here. Just to give you some idea I'll just recommend some of my favourites.
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2
Fallout 1 & 2
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Final Fantasy 7 & 8
Fable
Those are a few slightly newer ones that come to mind. Any spinoffs and earlier parts of each games mentioned there are good too, just didn't mention them.
Also worth noting is that Baldur's Gate on consoles is a totally different game than the PC version.
There's also some oldschool RPG's, like Nethack and stuff that I don't think you're after.
Not sure if any of those run on Vista as I'm not a Microsoft person myself.
[QUOTE="ag3ntz3rox0x"]how can a game be this addicting. help?weirjfSpend 12 hours of play time trying to find little crystal shards hiding amongst ice so that you can get shoulder enchants... realize how pointless it all is and sell your account.
Helpful posts those that say "increase your addiction level and ask again after that". Everfrost shards are pretty nice and easy to find when you get the hang of it.. Time of the day (or night) helps there a lot.
The answer was: doing raids so that I can get better gear, then do more raids so I could get even better gear. WoW is actually really pointless- but it is a great game.
That's pretty much there is to it. The worst part is that in the end everyone has the same gear, same spec, same playing style. Try to feel yourself unique there.
Pretty much what all MMORPG's are but WoW is by far the worst in that department.
The entire Thief series is one of the best - and some would argue THEE best - franchises in PC Gaming. No matter what the Metal Gear enthusiasts might say, this is the series that invented the pure stealth genre. Each of the games hallmarks are the mystery like stories with one of the most charismatic protagonists ever, awesome and varied level design and really defined and immersive game play that you have to think through: there is only one correct way to play the game really and that is to stealth your way through levels. I'd give the series 9.5/10 biggest_loserWell spoken, but I still want to make a correction on the underlined part. Especially in the Thief 2 where the map layout is bigger you can choose your own route and proceed any way you like. You don't have to go to a specified spot X and use item Y there in order to succeed. That's what I like in the game.
seeing how its old i take it that it would be hard to come by a copy these days?weddy92
It depends. I just googled for it and noticed our local gamestore sells the Thief pack (1, 2 & 3 (didn't even know there was third)) for 20 €uros. That I'd say is well worth the investment.
