"While it's going to be several months before anything major appears, graphical upgrades and performance tweaks are already appearing." While I'm mainly a console gamer that can appreciate the graphical prowess PC's can have over them, I'd still consider just a few of these pretty major. 3,4,7, and 9 have me trying to figure out who might have a Skyrim worthy laptop or PC for Black Friday. But like most everything online, it's merely my opinion.
I understand what they are asking for, the way they're going about it is wrong. I haven't seen too many sites that refuse to remove illegal content if asked, even if it is magically "leaked" footage that somehow got released.
When I play my 3DS, i know the 5 hours of playtime I have are going to be dedicated to gaming, and maybe watching a few videos. There's no need to worry about playing so much that I can't finish a phone call later because the battery is dead. All of those "awesome" features like gaming, web usage, apps, and music suck up battery life like crazy. I have no problem carrying my handheld and a phone with me wherever I go. If you want to own a smartphone or tablet just to play games on, go for it. It's your money, and you should be able to spend it any way you see fit. The companies making those products are going after the people that don't care about how much more precise controls are with a dedicated pad or nub. Those people don't care about how the configuration of the buttons are on their device. It's like PC gamers vs Console gamers; both have things they want to see in their system of choice, and buy accordingly. Most PC gamers wouldn't buy a FPS that required a controller to play, while most Console gamers would scoff at having to buy a mouse and keypad to play a game. There's nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't make one truly "better" than the other.
A word to developers........... If you know that a guide is being made for your game, talk to the people making the guide. They are going to be playing the game just as much as your testers, and have to find the simplest way to convey what to do to your audience.
I'm really not too worried about 3rd party support: either they will, or they won't. The only difference now is what the excuse will be. Graphically, the Wii couldn't compete with the 360/PS3, and we stupidly accepted those excuses. I say we, as gamers, were stupid, because we let 3rd get a free pass at making crap. A few of them got it right, but many just used the Wii as a cash cow for sub-par games. Those same 3rd parties didn't seem to have a problem making excellent DS games when the PSP was more powerful, but whatever. I hope they finally realize that every game doesn't have to incorporate every feature the system/controller has to offer. Sony tried to do the same thing with the PS3 and their 6 axis controller, now you barely hear about the function even if it is used. I'm sure the Move had something to do with that, but you get my point.
Nintendo has a lot to do this show.... Eternal Darkness sequel??? Not going to hold out hope for that one. Still hoping the BC rumors are true, but there haven't been many comments about that subject since it was first announced.
No matter what and when they decide to announce something, it's going to be big. i know they still won't sell the system for a loss, but how close to the line are they going to cut it this time? My secret wish is that they resurrect HD DVD as their format. Not as big as BR, but still bigger than DVD. That should alleviate some of the cost.
