When I saw this article yesterday, it still had the old comments format, and only 10 comments. I guess they figured it was easier to just erase everything and start from scratch. It does seem a bit screwy though, my original comment was talking about that's what happens when you don't actually own your games.....
I see your point, but exclusives like Halo just don't count. Even though, the Halo series has started adding more MP options akin to what the competition has been offering. The standard platformer isn't selling like it used to, but Nintendo can still bet on a Mario game to make money.
Seems as if they are at least trying to fix the problem. Too bad many of you said this might be a problem when Origin was announced. Congrats to the PC gamers that saw this coming.
@ rasputin177 I take it you aren't old enough to understand what it's like to be married and have a kid. Let me warn you now; no matter how much something costs, it's still just a potential toy to a kid, so you might as well get used to it.
This should be a lesson to those that want the gaming industry to go all digital. You won't own anything, and if they want to cut you off from playing, they can. This could just be a misunderstanding, or a marketing ploy like GOG.com pulled a few years back, but I doubt it.
I know these developers and publishers need to make money to keep making games, but blocking used games will only hurt them in the end. I can't count how many series I've enjoyed because my first introduction to them was because of a used game, or I was loaned a game. ( remember, banning of used games will also make trading games impossible, unless they make up some crazy system where you can let people on your friends list "borrow" a game... interesting) The only real way to eliminate used games sales is to go all digital. The problem with this "solution" is stated in the article; If I spend X amount of dollars on games per year, that's it. No used games means fewer games I purchase to fit that budget. I'll be less willing to try out a new game than picking up the next sequel to an established franchise. Then again, by the time the industry goes this route, demos will probably be set up the way Nintendo does on the 3DS. Pretty lengthy with a cap on how many times you can play them.
EA telling another company that their product looks "tired" and needs to "take a year off and rest"....... Isn't that like the prostitute telling the drug dealer "you disgust me"?
