Finished Metroid Prime: Hunters

I remember how fullfilling it was back in the 80´s when I first finished the original Metroid for NES. Only Team Ninja´s Ninja Gaiden nearly 20 years later has succeeded in creating such a sense of accomplishment.

Today I finished Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS and it took 14 hours and 51 minutes and completed 82% of the game. Of course I unlocked ALL the videos and the good ending is cool (faithful to Metroid traditions).

Go Samus!

First Wi-Fi win in Mario Kart DS!

Today I got my first win in Mario Kart DS. Unfortunately it was a shared first place with 28 points against three players. Also it didn´t feel as good as it did in Metroid Prime: Hunters.

And now for more wins... time to play.8)

First Wi-Fi win in Metroid Prime: Hunters!

I finally did it! After playing for 11:36:49 and 01:34:38 of that time on Wi-Fi getting my ass kicked over and over again, I finally achieved my very first win in Metroid Prime: Hunters. It was in Combat Hall against a guy (or gal) ranked with a single red star just like me.

Damn I´m good!:)

Wait for a while and save nearly 30 euros

Here in central Finland Castlevania Portrait of Ruin for the Nintendo DS can cost up to 59 euros. For this reason I decided to wait for a couple of weeks and ordered the same game as a US version from Play-Asia.com. Game arrived yesterday and it costed 31 euros.

Hail to online shopping!:)

My PC is dead

My laptop PC died a week ago which means that in the future my contributions to GameSpot will temporarily be less frequent than before.

But in the future coming up: reviews for Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Tetris DS.:)

I'm done with Spectrobes

I got Spectrobes on April 2nd as a birthday present from my mother and today, less than a week later, I finished it. Still I'm pleased in the game since it took me 32 hours to get through. I strongly hope that there will be a sequel somewhere in the future.

But the real kicker here is this: I think the game was great, but according to some it's just a piece of crap when compared to Pokemon. Since Pokemon Pearl and Diamond are on their way to Nintendo DS my hopes are VERY high.

Iku ze! :D

New Super Mario Bros. is awesome

March 5th I ordered one copy of New Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo DS from a finnish online store. Today I finally fed up, cancelled my order and bought the game in a large market near my house.:|

New Super Mario Bros. is exactly what I expected it to be: a quality 2D side-scroller which brings back those loved memories from 80`s. My weekend is going to be great with this game.

Expect to see my review of New SMB in a few weeks.:)

LostMagic let me down

Nintendo DS game LostMagic got good reviews and it sounded interesting. Game also looked good and had an interesting story along with an innovative use of DS´s touch screen.

All this potential and then everything was wasted in time limits and inability to play previous missions again in order to gain higher experience points (look my review of it for more details).

I'm pissed to LostMagic: I really, REALLY wanted to like it and enjoy my very first RPG on Nintendo DS. Someone should have told me that LostMagic is not an RPG: it's an RTS.

So sad.

Getting games in the 80s

When I was a kid back in the 80´s games were bought like this: you looked at the cover and hoped for the best. Quite often the game was crap, but because it had been so expensive I didn't dare to say it to my parents. So I just suffered quietly and played that awful game a lot more than it would have otherwise deserved.

If the game was good then it was also a bad thing: I played it several hours at a time so I also finished it pretty quickly. So according to my parents their money was thrown away, because the game was over so fast. For this reason I had to play that good game through multiple times before I dared to tell my parents that by the way: I finished it.

This may be one more reason why us NES kids have such warm memories about Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Mega Man and Metroid: They were good games, but also lenghty enough to have a long lasting value.:|

Nintendo DS Lite has landed

Finally today I did it and bought myself a white Nintendo DS Lite with a pre-owned Mario Kart DS.

My original intention was to put New Super Mario Bros. as the first game in my system in order to reminder of original NES back in 1988, but unfortunately New SMB has not arrived yet from local post office. So what does an old Nintendo Warrior do when there is no Super Mario, Zelda or Metroid to start with? He puts Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow in and starts playing.

This also means that in the future I’m going to do reviews for DS games. Stay tuned.:)
