So, this won't be a short blog, alot of news been hitting up Sony lately and with that: They're good news. Something really good for Sony after all those "broken" promises (since when people even pay attention to a companies promise? They're like politicians, a promise is for their speech only), they bring up good news. 2K6 was, we can admit it, not Sony's best year. In fact, it was a pretty weak year for Sony but not to worry! 2K7, from my point of view, will probably be the best year for them. Up with my thoughts..or should I say down with them since I'm skipping a line further down! and also since I've always been and will be down with Sony (Sony rhymes with quality) since I've never been disapointed with their products and since their producst always been long lasting in my case.
So, let's start with the PSP. Rumors of a redesign for the PSP is on the streets, most of you probably heard it. GameSpot shed some light upon these rumors and personally, the PSP doesn't need a new design but again, the redesigned model seems like it will serve another purpose. Sony claimed they wanted to try out a new PSP model for education which in my opinion is great. Now, not only does the processing power of the PS3 can be used in hospital for better care (faster process for finding diseases and what not, alot of people made fun of it until they did see the video from Sony that explains it all, somehow now people shut up bout it..mmm..I wonder why? haha), but if the PSP manages to work out for education, it would again give a big boost for Sony. Here are my thoughts about this: I think the redesigned model for education could serve as some electronic agenda. Students could enter their schedules, write down their notes, could even have their entire books in the PSP. Thus, it would save alot of space for students, a lot less books and what not to carry over from each classes to another, more time for them to enjoy the break in between each classes, and all of this in your pocket. Imagine just that: you re sitting in class at your desk, everybody has their school PSP model all connected together. How easy would it be for the teacher to give you everything you need through the PSP? Plus, less paper means less money spent on damn papers (on a long term use of course). I don't know about people, but to me this sounds like a great idea and great way to make studying much more easy at college and university especially, since do we know that they have a hell lot of things. Sony didn't say much about this, nor is it even confirmed and official, but that small rumor sounds like a great investment to me and could give Sony a boost OUTSIDE of the video gaming industry because, let's never forget, Sony does much more than just gaming. Through 2K6 and the start of this year, they shown me that in fact, they do care about humanity and want to help people get easier access to important stuff such as health care and education. Probably the 2 most important industries in the world, in my opinion. That makes me forget alot of their broken promises since they show some caring, unlike most companies.
Out of the "society caring" subject, the PSP will know a very good year in this 2K7 with alot of exclusives and highly wanted games such as Silent Hill: Origins (alot of people make fun of it, but these same people do claim they want a PSP to play it, be it out of curiosity or loyalty to the series), Castlevania: Dracula X is another one, God of War on PSP has recently been confirmed which will more than likely boost the sales of the handheld, and many other games which I seen around on the boards but can't recall the names (Monster Hunter or something like that?). So I named a few that already there makes my purchase seems worth more than I could even expect when I first bought my PSP, and I'm sure Sony hasn't unveiled all of it's great upcoming games. On top of that, we can't forget the multimedia features of the handheld especially now that people finally start realising that they do exist and that the PSP does much more than they could of thought.
On to the PS3, we all know Sony had a terrible launch. Well..the launch went great with PS3's selling out just about everywhere, but after the launch, the restock went unknown like if everybody already had their PS3's at launch. They drop the backwards compatibility in UK which in the eyes of many gamers (certainly not mine cause I could give a **** less about BC) is the most important feature of a new console. To me, it;s kind of absurd since if you had a PS2, you still have a PS2 to play your old games on it. f you didn't have a PS2, then why the **** you buying PS2 games instead of PS3 games? Anyway, we all can say it: Sony failed us. But not anymore..they are gaining us back. Not only will lowering the BC be able to bring us a price cut in the near future (hopefully), Sony also intends on bringing us more stuff to do with the big expensive yet silent machine. HOME was the biggest news they had for us, I know alot of people are skeptical about this, but I am sure they'll make great profit with this program and that it'll work perfectly. I myself can't wait to get my hands on a PS3 and download HOME, Inviting my friend Curtis (fellow GameSpotter) over to my virtual apartment bumping some music and watching some movies out there with him (yo, we definately need to get a PS3, both of us). Now alot whine about the launch line-up as well. But fear not! The only amazing game they had was Resistance: Fall of Man, but 2K7 now counts more titles to be quite boostin for the big company. The biggest exclusive title PS3 could ever get is Metal Gear Solid 4. That name only will sell a couple more PS3's throughout the summer for sure. Sadly, alot of the "exclusives" that aren't exclusive anymore such as Assassin's Creed will probably hurt them a little bit, but not that much. I'd be ready to buy a PS3 for such a game, but wouldn't be ready to buy a 360 for it. That's on pure preferences of course, but I think the 360 isn't worth it's price and is a steal, while after trying out all 3 current gen consoles several times, I know the PS3 is worth the price. Rumors went also for a God of War III which would AMAZINGLY boost the multimedia console sales for sure. God of War has became extremly popular and well known amongst gamers and some of us are ready to spend whatever it takes for such a title. Rumors also go around that it could be on the Wii, but that'd be bad news for Nintendo cause the Wii straps most likely couldn't hold the strenght of our fierce when playing God of War and Nintendo would end up with thousands if not millions of broken WiiMotes. And anyway, God of War is by Sony themselves and they'd be pretty stupid to sell one of their biggest names to the other companies, so it won't happen..I hope for them anyway.
Blu-Ray. Some say it will flop, some say it will top DVD. DVD, in the origins was developed by Sony with some other companies..therefore, if Sony took part in creating DVD, they sure can kill it. Killing your own masterpiece. Everytime I'm in a store, there's always people looking at Blu-Ray movies. Alot of people tell me how they want a Blu-Ray player (I hint them at buying a PS3 for half the price of a Blu-Ray player and they can get even more features) so I don't consider BR to be a flop..yet. In the long term it might die, this nobody can tell. But as far as I can see, Blu-Ray will most likely become big. Even most computers nowadays can come installed with a Blu-Ray tray instead of DVD. Sure, it is more expensive, but for the technology we live in today, Blu-Ray is our best choice amongst media discs.
Anyway, I probably skipped alot of things, but all in all I end up to the same conclusion as I always thought: This will be a good year for Sony's PSP and PS3. I often said the PSP would eventually be recongnized for what it can do and it is happening today. I always said PS3 wouldn't make profit out of the launch in the first year, but instead would grow bigger with time. By the end of 2K7 I expect the PS3 to have become one of the majors in video gaming industry and in 6 years I can see them standing on top of the list again. Of course I don't expect them to win the war right off in 2K7, but this year won't hurt Sony at all, I even say it will give them a HUGE and magnificient boost. We hardly know nothing about what's coming for us, we're only in March. By the end of the year, huge changements will arrive, and good ones. Oh and should I say, the rumble is back with the SixAxiS, which is sure to please alot of gamers although I personally never really cared for the rumble as I hardly ever even realise my controller is shaking or something. So I couldn't care less about the rumble.
So, call me a fanboy, I know I am not. But I must admit Sony always been my favorite company in the electronics (from eprsonal experiences). Microsoft is successful with the 360 so far and Nintendo is almost always successful, but usually is a phaze and such is why they usually end up redesigning most of their stuff (in my opinion). I enjoy both Sony and Nintendo (I don't really like Microsoft although they have the best customer support out of them 3 companies), but Sony still remains in first for me. PS3 gave me some doubts, not big ones, but anyway today they are entirely gone as I see more and more of its power and capabilities.
This basicaly was my thoughts on what's happening with Sony. Also, my girlfriend is tired of hearing me speak about video games, so this place makes me somewhere to tell all I've got to tell lol.
