[QUOTE="Crimson_Faith"]If there was foul play involved, I would personally love to shake the hands of those responsible. He was a waste of musical talent imo. And he wasnt even that talented. Cant stand him. qubert27
Please say this was a joke? I'm not a fanboy... At all. But, he was a musical genius, one of the greatest songwriters of all time, he had a certain uniqueness that I haven't seen since about '96. As did many grunge artists.
How was Kurt Cobain a musical genius? I think he sucked. He's an important figure in rock music, but his music was completely mediocre.
I don't read sci-fi or fantasy anymore.
But "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" was good (the movie Blade Runner was loosely inspired by the book).

great book.
Try anything by Philip K. Dick

Just because most people wouldn't enjoy movies like Brazil or The Diving Bell & The Butterfly, or music like The Velvet underground or Animal Collective, doesn't mean they're just trying to be different for the sake of being different.
You see, I enjoy those bands and films but I definitely wouldn't consider myself a "hipster". I don't listen music like that because it's different, it's because I enjoy it. That said, I listen to practically all genres of music and I like plenty of mainstream films.
I didn't like it. It tried to hard to be quirky. The acting was forced and and dialgue was far too self-aware. It was trying to hard to appeal to "hip" indie kids. The soundtrack was okay and it contained some of my favourite bands... I hate the Moldy Peaches though.
Also, it annoys me that people will be listening to some of my favourite artists just because they're now considered cool and quirky, rather than because they appreciate the music. The same thing happened with the Garden State soundtrack.
The Stone Roses

Wilco
The Microphones
Animal Collective
Sun Kil Moon/ Red House Painters/Mark Kozelek

just too many to mention.
[QUOTE="Film-Guy"]Why would you think that?[QUOTE="MoldOnHold"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"]Sex Pistols are crappy and overrated. TyrantDragon55
Too much attitude not enough music. At least the clash could pla their instruments well and experimented with their music.
Please go listen to Nevermind the Bullocks, and pay close attention to it. Look past the amped up guitars and really listen to their playing, or even grab an accoustic and play it. It's original (for the time), concise, to the point, authentic, and not a single note out of place.
It was original for it's time and influential but there are so many better punk records, IMO. These spring to mind:
The Ramones - The Ramones
Richard Hell & The Voidoids - Blank Generation
Television - Marquee Moon
Wire - Pink Flag
X - Los Angeles
With the exception of The Clash and post-punk, I don't really like British Punk.
