Honestly, for games I didn't really notice a difference between my onboard and soundcard. But music was a BIG difference. That alone swayed me to buy a sound card.

But you are kidding that everybody is kidding right?

Thinker_145

Well, I just sent back my 8800GT that I bought yesterday for this bad boy. Just look at all the money I saved!

The funny thing is that there are probably some users looking in this thread not realizing we are kidding about this card's "great" performance.

The Witcher should be fine. Crysis could be played at high with some options knocked down to medium. Gothic III might be playable at high, but that game has some issues (unless there's a patch that came out recently to address this).

There's a task called MOM.exe running in my processes and I've never seen it before. Does anyone know what it is?achilles614

Google says it's a process based from the ATI Catalyst app. However, it could be spyware if it originates from program files/mom/mom.exe.

EDIT: I just dug a little deeper and you should investigate this to see where it originates from. If it's from ATI, you should be ok. But it's also known to be a virus.

I know you can open up a computer and place new RAM and video cards in,but can you remove the processor and put a new one in? I'm really think I should upgrade my processor to a dual core next year,is it possible?stephant_6

Yep, definitely possible. But you may have to upgrade your motherboard too depending on the new processor you're thinking of getting (has to be the correct standard).

I'm having problems myself with that. I installed the 169.25 driver while the drivers from the cd were still installed and I got piss poor performance in games. Don't be like me and rush into things, find out for sure!

And when you do let me know! :P

CB4McGusto

Well, I uninstalled the old drivers and shut off the machine. Then I slipped in the new card and booted, installed new drivers (NOT from CD), and tested out 3dmark06. My score had an increase of about 3500 which ended up being about a 65% increase! So, I tested it out with The Witcher and it ran smooth as silk. I had been playing it at medium settings, but bumped it up to High with the new card and still ran like a dream. However, the real test will be when I test out Crysis tonight to see the payoff...

Excellent, thanks for the info.

One last thing, If I do decide to get a new PSU, which one should I go for between these 2:

http://www.f3d.com/item.php?pid=80

Unfortunately this site don't seem to give much info about those, but atleast we know how much W they do. :P

laus_basic

Honestly, you should be careful when buying cheap-o PSU's. I had one in my old rig a couple years ago and it fried my GPU. Luckily the CPU survived, but I immediately got an Antec NeoPower after that debacle.

I may have just had bad luck, but it's kind of scary to think that it could fry your system. If you have some unstable voltages, there's a chance something could be destroyed.

P.S. I was not OC'ing with my old PSU. If I had been doing that, I would've been asking for trouble.

Wow, I JUST bought one and am about to put it in my PC. I have a question though...should I uninstall the old drivers (just downloaded the new ones, haven't installed though), turn off the PC, put in the new card, boot it up, then install the new drivers? Or should I uninstall the old drivers, install the new ones, shut down, put in new card, then boot up?

My old cards are 2 7600 GT's. Any help would be awesome. Thanks guys!

So, you made a statement with little to no room for discussion?
