Yeah that's just BS. They say they are uitilizing CPU resources from the cloud but exactly how? They could be feeding information dynamically but there will be a noticeable latency. A tech demo is never a representation of real world processing.

Stuff like foliage and whatnot cannot use cloud CPU power to render unless you want your grass and trees to lag in game. Imagine playing Crysis 1 and shooting up a tree only to have it break in half a half second later. Grass that when you walk over it doesn't way until you've moved out of it. The client will always be ahead of the server.

It's all about latency.

what is something that can change the latency turnaround time? meaning can they speed up that latency through software or dev tools or some type of framing? the only reason why i say that is before in my company in regards to data, you could only send a certain amount of data through a pipe but always had to have a header to ensure the data hits a to z and is confirmed to be the same data from point A to Z. After years of saying you cannot get a full pipe, A T @ T came up with a technology to frame the data in such a way where you didnt need the header, they called it B8ZS, and then that became the standard. Is it possible for the minds of the clouds ever actually get its hands around latency and such and actually work around it? Thanks again, ill be a fanboy again, just not now =D

Trust me, the key factors to your latency are 1) your distance from the server and 2) your ISP. Sure there are a few things you can do from your side (speaking purely about PC here but some of these work for consoles too), but overall, the issues of latency is out of your hands. The things you can do are stuff like make sure no other programs are being utilized while using your X1. So you dont want your mom watching a movie on netflix, while your brother DL's a Steam game, and your dad watches porn. All make a significant difference. Secondly, on PC, there are a few optimizations that you can make that will "slightly" improve latency, but nothing great. And you can always put ur device in your router's DMZ to see if that helps, but one thing Ive learned moving around so much, is distance is the killer. No matter what you do, being far from the server will always increase your latency.

Well can we wait til the game is released? Obviously there is still some optimization to be done and frame rate issues to be addressed.

I own a vita and I don't see any point in buying games for it anymore when it is most likely that it will turn up on Playstation plus sooner or later. I am having a hard time seeing how this business modell is working out for them, I can't be alone in my line of thinking. kaealy

You know, I actually wondered about that to be honest. And my uneducated hypothesis on the matter is that, most game sell their most during the first few months of release. Or in best case scenarios, in the first year. Most PS+ games that are released are 2+ years old, and at that point, it's highly unlikely that anyone is going to buy them brand new. So developers think to themselves "Well BF3 really isn'g going to sell any new copies at this point, so why don't we get some money from SONY and in return they can put it up for free on PSN+". On SONY's side they think "Well, we have players paying $50 a year already, so that's a pretty hefty chunk of change. Why don't we offer to pay the developers a lil bit more so that we can have their game up for free on PSN+ and that game maybe what makes a person take the leap and sign up for PSN+!"

So thinking of it that way, both parties have a lot to gain. And I also think that (remember this is pure speculation based on absoutely ZERO FACTS) developers get paid a small portion of the $50 and it's possible, and would make a lot of sense, if developers ONLY get paid based on the number of downloads. Either with the flat rate payment to put games up for free, or with the pay by download system, both the publishers and Sony have something to gain. Its like when a store sells stuff 75% off just to get rid of stock because they know that at this point, its highly unlikely anyone will buy it, except with PSN+ you have already paid for it with your $50.

From the PSVITA perspective, I figure that Sony's main concern right now, is getting people to buy the system. If they can get the system out there in mass numbers by offering all these free games, then more developers will gravitate to the system, and I trust that pretty soon we wont be seeing all these failry new PSVITA games appearing on PSN+. So for PSVITA this is just a play to intice people to buy the product and great a stable fanbase

Just my theory :P

Just read it's sold at least 550,000 copies in a week, making it the fastest selling orginal XBLA game ever.

freedomfreak
It did better than Minecraft :/

Well, it is a zombie game at a very good price. Dunno what it is, but people just love their zombies :P I cant wait til the dinosaur fad comes back! Or the humanoid animal fad (i.e. TMNT, Street Sharks, Battletoads, etc...) from the 80's comes back! That my friends, will the the dawn of a new era! :D

Ted Price from Insomniac talking about Sunset Overdrive:

Price wants the game to be updated online regularly, maybe even daily, though he doesnt want to commit to that. He wants the game world to change. He wants to offer players new weapons and challenges, to take in player feedback and adapt. He wants this even for the undated games single-player. He seems to like the idea of a game that would be checking in online a lot.

Hope Mr. Price also enjoys having to pay a fee for every single update he adds to the game, cause, you know...MS is all about charging people dat money for game updates :P
