You can give an effective review after only a few hours. There are cases (like Final Fantasy XIII) where the game just doesn't pick up until 20 hours in, this is a major flaw with the game. If you have to play it for many hours to enjoy the game, the game is not that good.

First and foremost a video game should be fun. If it takes many hours for a game to be fun, you need to take that into consideration. I understand games with high learning curves, but the high learning curve is also a negative. A good game should beable to be easy to play yet can range from simple gameplay to very deep, involving experiences.

Really if a game is just not fun after 4-6 hours, the chances of it getting fun after that are not that good.

Preferably it's best if the reviewer finishes the single player, but that's not always necessary for them to judge the game.

I understand and agree with the points you stated, yet the point here is if there should be noted the time spent by the reviewer. It's a quick info like "x hours spent into the game our opinion is:". Just would give people the idea of how much time was devoted to develope the opinion presented.

PC is a computer not a console.

chocolate1325

Indeed, I guess he meant "gaming platform", anyway, PC have by far the best selection of games, simply because you can play games from previous generations also... there is no BC problems on the PC.

I currently have installed:

Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Gears of War, Fable, Gothic 3, Alpha Protocol, Prince of Persia the Sands of Time,Prince of Persia the Two Thrones, Prince of Persia Warrior Within, The Witcher, Civilization IV Colonies, Civilization IV Beyond the Sword, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Knights of the Old Repubblic II.

Soon I'll re-install Baldurs Gate II and other older games...

Lol no the *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* SPOILERS* :P, UnrealLegend

 Yea I remember that part. That was hard, but I had waaay more trouble with the purple guys. Drove me nuts. lol.

What drove me nuts was the part in the first game where you're stuck in the room full full of water with enemies coming from all directions. I nearly broke my controller.

Same here, I had to repeat that part some ten times while playing on crushing difficulty.

How often do you find youself skipping the original and playing the second, or third, etc in a series? Not including games with entirely different characters/stories in which each game is a completely different beast in itself. Wether it be because the first one sucked or whatever.

Can you jump into the middle of a series like that?

I bring this up because of ME2 coming to PS3 but the original not :/

w4rrior17

No, I can't (usually... done that before, but regreted it). About ME, when it was anounced the second installment to the PS3, but without the first one, I just bought ME for PC, along with ME2 and spent far less on both than what the PS3 version will cost.

Somehow I'm a bit disapointed on ME2 though, as it lost almost all RPG aspects that ME had, to such a point that it plays just like a "Gears of War with dialogue weel". Anyway, I do like Third Person Shooters, so ME2 is still good.

I'd like to see a FPS version of RE6. :)

Fenian_lostsoul

Horrible idea .

Agreed.

We have such a shortage of FPS nowadays... oh no, we don't. Horrible idea indeed.

Console sales will SKYROCKET...

Asia (except Japan) Easter Europe (plus Russia) Latin America ALL have HUGE populations of VERY POOR people....These people are on PC because of its general use and less complex pirating. Now imagine the sales of consoles with all these people... I wouldnt be surprised if Xbox360/PS3 combined sales surpassed 150 million....Of course attach rates would plummet...

True_Gamer_

You're a little too late... they are already on the consoles, for more than ten years. I'll retrieve any e-mail adress or anything that may lead anyone to pirated games sites on the following images... be my guest revolt, I sure am revolted and ashamed of my countrie's gaming industry condition... (The police do work in order to prevent this kind of stuff, but the merchandise seem to flood the streets... left image is a demonstrative of the material apprehended by the local federal police, the right one is a freaking internet ad of a pirated games "shop"!).

Edit: For the end-user (the gamer) console pirated games and PC pirated games have the same cost (I know it, I see it every **** day). Depending on the level of complexity of the console, they were pirated before too... so, no, console pirating is bad for the industry.

So, as a starting point, I'm interested in how we feel about this notion that violent games lead to violent behaviour? I mean certificates are there for child safety, just like films, but i'm more concerned with young adults and older being affected.I'm wanting to get a discussion going with regards to this, no right or wrong answers – just a debate. The areas I personally feel should be covered are:-How do you feel about this whole concept? Personal view, not a professional one into the perception of violent games leading to short-term hostility? Why do you play these games? Justifications? Are they because they're violent or is the violence simply an extra thing contained within the game? Are your favourite games violent? Why are these your favourite?5cott

Lets get to your starting point, no I don't believe that violence in VG necessarily leads to violent behaviour, not as much as any other media may lead.Whenever an individual have an innate tendency towards violent behavior though, VG may influence him, there are many triggers to such effect though:

  1. Movies (I remember some ten or so years ago some dude killed and boiled people because he saw in a horror B movie that drinking the fat of a boiled virgin could give him immortality...).
  2. Tabble top RPG (Some four or five years ago some creep decided he was a vampire and was running around naked - because he needed to be naked in order to be invisible, go figure - trying to bite people's necks. White Wolf's books come with a disclaimer that all within is fictional ever since.).
  3. Cartoon (Can't remember any incident right now, but there are lots of violent cartoons).
  4. Books ("Meine Kampf" comes to mind... oh, and don't forget the "Holy" wars... so the Bible and other sacred tomes may lead to religious zealot's violence...)

What am I intending to say here is that VG can be a catalist to violent behaviour (As much as any other form of media), but not the source of the problem.

    Now, to the topics.

  • I don't feel bothered by the concept. Personal opinion stated above.
  • I play violent games not because of the violence, it is there though, and it doesn't bother me. As you stated, it's an extra thing.
  • My favourite games are usually Strategy (Turn based), RPGs and Action games. RPGs can have their fair cup of violence and gore, but it's ever in the backseat to the history (usually if violence and gore add to the setting and mood, the better, not a necessity though). Action games are a different beast though, some are violent for the sake of violence, and sometimes I use those violent games as a vent to everyday stress.
