If you ask me Sony's gameplan is pure genious. I mean think about it, here they have the PS2 which is very very profitiable now which continues to dominate month after month and also they have the number one selling game God of war 2. SONY is not losing anything lol so sony is going to put themselves out of business because PS2 outselling the PS3?! lmao Is that how this works?! I think not. What sony is doing is squeezing every cent of profit out of the cash cow that is the PS2, believe me. as soon as the holiday season rolls around and the PS2 sales have died down that will make way for the PS3 with all its great titles to shine and people really start to buy the console.

Think about it like this.. PS3 sold 133,000 units in a dead month like March. Ok right now the PS3 has no good games, overpriced and really nothing spectacular and its STILL selling 133,000 units. Now just imagine this year when "home" hits along with Lair, Heavenly Sword, Killzone, Ratchet and clank, MGS4 etc, SALES OF THE PS3 WILL DOMINATE!! I mean the way sony sees it is, why rush out software for the PS3 when they have the cash cow PS2 dominating month after month making them tremendous profits. It makes sense, you just have to look at the big picture. So anyway the bottom line is it all depends on how you look at these numbers. You have to ask yourself this one question when it comes to sony.. Is the glass half empty or half full?

Trust me. right now the PS3 is a sleeping giant, sony will know the perfect time to release its major guns with its great games coming up. Im reminded of a old Proverb from the art of war.. "The skilled warrior wins the war without ever going to battle" think about it.

I hope you never open your own company, but that aside the PS3 is a console ahead of its time. Even a price drop wont help it, Sony wont drop the price more than $100, and we all know sony just cancelled the $499 model so even at that price the demand wont be huge. Sony wont start getting steam till late 2007, however unlike MS Sony has competition to worry about so they dont have all the time in the world. While Sony is waiting developers start getting worried note the sudden flow of multiplats. I think at E3 alot of multiplats formerly exclusive to sony will be announced. The Sony generation has ended and the competition is the gamers are the ones benefitting.

Windows is going nowhere, he basis his facts from Dell and China, no one buys software in China so whats the point of even referencing, MS is now making $3, compared to their previuos $0, people are still using pirated Vista like crazy though. THe Dell point is ridiculuos as Dell always is trying to build the cheapest PCs possible so no surprise. MS has a huge Monopoly on OS, if it wasnt illegal they would have 99.5% market share however governments everly restrics MS bundling of software. Not saying MS is teh best but they do know how to kick in the door and kick out competition, just look at the games industry, Ms succesfully took on the most succesful system ever and still managed 24 million, and is doing great with the 360. They are nowhere near monopolizing gaming and maybe they never will but their break into gaming was an achievement in itself.

So?

How does that make my gaming experience any better?

You need to get off the whole "graphics whore" philosophy that you seem to be propagating. In reality all that detail and graphical effects arent going to make the gameplay any more enjoyable and SMG will still be an awesome game without those effects.

Gaming is about gameplay; do you disagree?

MaTT2011

Actually I do disagree

Gameplay is a very important asset in a game however potentially good games have been hindered by graphics before. Now dont get me wrong I am not saying that gameplay should be ignored, I am saying graphics exist creating half the game. Halo is a perfect example of this, sure the gameplay is amazing for a FPS on console however the graphics enhances the package to equal out the game, would Halo be fun still with Halo 1 graphics, yes, will it be more fun with Halo 3 graphics yes. Graphics is not just a bunch of textures although by definition it is, on SW it is normally implied more as the systems power, therefore physics and such is included. That is where the graphics becomes really important, it immerses you making the game bettter.

I would compare gameplay to flour, you need it as a base for the cake however all the other stuff is graphics. You can have a good cake with mainly flour and some extras, but the more you add extra the better it will be.

That is one thing that I dont like about Nintendo this generation, they seem to be stalling the game industry by using a redesigned gamecube. For $250 they could have added alot more hardware however all Nintendo is doing is milking their fans in ridiculous amounts. I mean I love my wii, but when I look at my PS2 and my wii I wonder why I paid $250 compared to the $130 the PS2 is at right now. Even the wii-motes are ridiculous, the wii-mote and nun-chuck should be $50 combined, the way they are sold now is just Nintendo milking even more money. A 360 controller costs something like $6-$8 to make, a wii-mote cant be that much more.

All I am trying to say is that I feel Nintendo has really started to play dirty on Sony and Microsofts level yet they almost never gets called on it. Nintendo should have added more to the wii or offered it at a lower price, as it stand I can see that atleast almost half of the price you pay for a wii is profit to Nintendo. Now they deserve to make money they are a great company but sheep need to stop praising the wii saying its cheap whatever, because it is an outrage to me Nintendo priced so high and no one cares. If nintendo was really the innovative company that each generation make sthe industry strive forward why has nintendo seemingly stopped caring about the industry, now actually holding it back in last gen, yet not pricing accordingly.

this thread is a desperate stretch to bash the 360. Besides Ms alone isint carrying the 360, 3rd party developers dont announce games till actually closer to the release. Gears was announced so it can hype up the 360 launch giving something to look forward to. Kind of like the PS3 but instead of saying wait a year they are saying wait two years. However there i sstill lots of time for multiplats. I suspect we will hear about MGS 4 coming to 360, with a timed exclusive at the very least for the 360, if GTA jumpe dboat I dont see why MGS wont. Just wait and see and start worrying about 2008 in 2008, not 2007

I like to treat people by their skill and attitude. The only way I boot people are if they are jackasses or harmful to the team, (killing team mates constantly etc.)  however I know one or two girls that love acting like they suck and dont know how to play just so they can play. What can you say alot of guys dont like competing with girls because they hate losing to them, people need to really get over this whole gender thing, we are all gamers.

Wii : all ages

XBOX 360 : teenagers

PlayStation 3 : College/University students + young adults

There's the problem with PS3 at the moment. Wii is directed to all ages thus making the highest sales per month, which will eventually surpass XBOX 360's. XBOX 360 is designed for teenagers, who are the ones who play video games the most. PS3 is too directed for young adults. Sony will need to change their advertismements and marketing strategy... where's good old Santa?

You do realize the majority of gamers are not teenagers and that the 360 is not aimed at just teenagers, same goes to the PS3.

[QUOTE="BeauRoger"]oh dear.. cows avoid this like the plague:(chrisoff_1

this thread is full of mass delusion. Id say cows are avoiding it because 800k in three weeks is a good number no matter how much crappy spin you put on it, why argue with people so blind that they call this launch a flop, a bomb when completely ignoring cold hard facts like the PS3 still outdid the Wii and 360 with a weeks less sales, nevermind both competitors had holiday launches.......waiting for predictible bu bu teh supply constraints! responses from sheep and lemmings with glee!

Sony got 600 000 because they had millions at launch, thye didnt have any supply issues like the others, the problem now is almost everyone that wanted one has one and that means huge drop in sales. Sony is losing in every territory right now, that is a major problem considering the PS3 is brand new and people are already stopping to buy it, probably because of the $400 price tag and the $200 forced blu-ray. I hope sony learns and never use the playstation as a way to sell other stuff. If the PS3 had DVD and a $400 prive tag then Sony would be selling like crazy but thats to late now. With sales as slow as they are expect a price drop very very soon.

"""Using this type of setup the SPU's can be used to help out the GPU. Because the SPU's are so versatile I would predict that within a few generations of games we'll start seeing graphics more advanced on ps3 than we will on 360."""

Doesnt really matter, it seems to be alot like the xbox vs PS2 graphic, as it will be minor with few games taking advantage of it. Well the PS3 is $600 so it better be looking better than the 360, so I just feel that $200-$300 is way to much for me to spend extra when buying a PS3 just for better graphics. I want games.

Oh on a sales point this will not reallty effect sales as the early adopters are ussually the ones with the biggest issue with having the best graphics, by the time PS3 starts looking better than 360 the sales will start concentrating on casuals, since very little casuals have HDTV I doubt they care enought about graphics to buy the PS3 just for that, they will look at games.

Your thread is well done and I congratualate you on thinking casual and not purely hardcore as casuals are most of the sales. I agree on almost all of your points, however in the case of both SOny and Microsoft the only thing apparent this geneation is that the PS3 will not dominate as it did last gen. The 360 will compete with the 360 in the US and Europe, with Japan being for this gen non existing for support. The Wii will fight well in all territories, however how long these rapid sales will last when no 3rd party games arrive is unknown. The PS3 has a good future as it will surely sell, whether it will be enought to win the generation is unknown. It is impossible to predict without having atleast a year of sales for each system available to you. The only sure thing is the gamer is defniantly winning this generation no matter what console you own even PC has suddenly seemed to revive with games like crysis.

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="walton13"]yeah because we all know we have 2,000 dollar computers that can handle this game. I just threw my PS3 out the window, my 360 is next...Stabby2486

A well built $1000 PC could run the game maxed.

I would like to see that, the GPU alone will be close to $800, I dont think anything else will be able to run it at max, I could be wrong but $1000 PCs can be good i fyou know what your doing, I just dont hink it will max out crysis.

A 8800GTX ran it 60 FPS and it costs 600 $, so a 8800GTS will do just fine and it costs 400 $.

Sorry I live in Canada, I forgot to convert back to US, but I still dont hink a $1000 US computer will be able to max out, but theoretically if it did I would defniantly get a brand new PC for this game.
