Translation: Sony is in financial straights and really has no choice but to appeal to the concerns of consumers. Don't get me wrong, I'll be getting a PS4 over an Xbox One because of all of the controversial issues, but I know Sony is far from a saint.
Yes, its their fault but I don't think marketing has everything to do with it. What brought in the mass market with the Wii was the motion controls, which don't seem to be such a big focus with the Wii U. What would have brought the core gamers would have been the systems specs being on par with the XOne and the PS4, though Nintendo has had a strained relationship with third party developers for awhile so it wouldn't have been a sure bet either. What Nintendo needs is new management with a new, competitive vision.
It looks like Ubisoft will not be able to rest on its laurels after this next Splinter Cell, because Kojima has set the bar very, very high. That's a damn good thing considering the direction Ubi has taken the franchise.
To reinvigorate American gamers, the MMO simply needs to to die and be reborn. The genre seems to be tethered to its conventions so tightly that it's weighed down by them. WoW broke the mold, and the next MMO to do the same will crack the American market.
