First Footage of Playable Boss Infected (L4D footage starts at 11 minuites and again at 14).

The demo is confirmed, and is supposed to release sometime before launch date. The game will be available for preorder on Steam in October, and will have a discount at that time. Also when asked if Left 4 Dead prepurchasers will be able to access an open beta like TF2 last year, it was neither confirmed or denied, so keep on hoping.

underrated: not sure; most games i like seem to receive their due praise. but i'm gonna go with tf2, since it can't possibly receive enough praise; it's just that good!

but i don't see why this version would be any less stable than the retail. all the steam games i own run just fine on my computer.
