Are they serious? The Catholic church was louder against Obama than any other Presidential candidate in history.Theokhothwell it varies from Bishop to Bishop. But the protesters were also congratulating the more outspoken Bishops such as Archbishop Chaput (Denver, where the Democratic national convention was held) and Bishop Joseph Martino (Scranton, Joe Biden's town of origin). All the the whole body of the Bishops came out real forceful earlier this week in stating their opposition to the "Freedom of Choice Act" which Obama has told Planned Parenthood he would sign into law (he said this would be the first thing he would do as pres., so I guess promoting abortion and catering to special interest groups means more than trying to help the economy).
JoeRatz16's forum posts
the protesters are wearing Obama masks and holding signs saying "thank you for your silence" at a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Protesters say that the Bishops should have spoken out more forcefully in condemning Obama's support for abortion.
too bad I can't find pics.
well here are some things they did:
1. Went up to a woman at a Pro-Prop 8 rally, she was holding a cross. they took the cross and stomped on it.
2.Surrounded a mormon temple and shouted "mormon scum" (Mormon's were major financers of prop 8)
3. Picketed Rick Warren's church with signs saying "purpose driven hate"
4. Vandalized cars in a church parking lot
5. assaulted two people
6. spray painted a church
7. shouted racial slurs against black people (who supported prop 8 by a margin, by the way when gays try to say that denial of gay marriage is equivalent to segregation most black people take offense).
That's what Archbishop Cheenath says. Anyway what should the U.S and other countries do? Should we cut off diplomatic relations with India unless they crack down on these militants. At the least we should grant asylum to those Christians (and also Muslims) fleeing persecution by Hindu militants.
While that is really, really cool, didn't Aquinas speak Italian?TheokhothWell, he's a saint which means he is in Heaven with God, so I'm sure God could teach Aquinas whatever language they speak in Serbia (is it Serbian, or Old Slavonic?).
He is a serbian guy named Sotjan Adasevic. Here is his story.
In describing his conversion, Adasevic "dreamed about a beautiful field full of children and young people who were playing and laughing, from 4 to 24 years of age, but who ran away from him in fear. A man dressed in a black and white habit stared at him in silence. The dream was repeated each night and he would wake up in a cold sweat. One night he asked the man in black and white who he was. 'My name is Thomas Aquinas,' the man in his dream responded. Adasevic, educated in communist schools, had never heard of the Dominican genius saint. He didn't recognize the name"
"Why don't you ask me who these children are?" St. Thomas asked Adasevic in his dream.
"They are the ones you killed with your abortions,' St. Thomas told him.
"Adasevic awoke in amazement and decided not to perform any more abortions," the article stated.
"That same day a cousin came to the hospital with his four months-pregnant girlfriend, who wanted to get her ninth abortion-something quite frequent in the countries of the Soviet bloc. The doctor agreed. Instead of removing the fetus piece by piece, he decided to chop it up and remove it as a mass. However, the baby's heart came out still beating. Adasevic realized then that he had killed a human being,"
After this experience, Adasevic "told the hospital he would no longer perform abortions. Never before had a doctor in Communist Yugoslavia refused to do so. They cut his salary in half, fired his daughter from her job, and did not allow his son to enter the university."
After years of pressure and on the verge of giving up, he had another dream about St. Thomas.
"You are my good friend, keep going,' the man in black and white told him. Adasevic became involved in the pro-life movement and was able to get Yugoslav television to air the film 'The Silent Scream,' by Doctor Bernard Nathanson, two times."
Mel Gibson is actually a schismatic. He is the head of a small religious group that he founded called "the Holy Family Catholic Church" while it's beliefs are shared with the Catholic Church, and it's worship is done in the 16th century Tridentine Rite (still used in the Catholic Church, but no longer the main rite) he is not in communion with the actual Catholic Church and does not recognize Papal authority.Always got to remember there is a difference between someone claiming to be Catholic and an actual practicing Catholic.
The same could be said about Mel Gibson.
But you do bring up a good point and I honestly don't know what to think of it.

[QUOTE="JoeRatz16"][QUOTE="comp_atkins"]If Obama was to appoint her and provoke a conflict with the Catholic Bishops wouldn't that go against his stated desire to unify the country. Obama should try not to anger the church, since the President should try not to do anything that would divide the country.the moment church starts effecting who is chosen to govern we have a serious problem... :|

There will always be disagreements, you can't cater to everyone.
but you shouldn't deliberately provoke them.[QUOTE="JoeRatz16"][QUOTE="comp_atkins"]If Obama was to appoint her and provoke a conflict with the Catholic Bishops wouldn't that go against his stated desire to unify the country. What conflict?
*Appointment made*
"Hey we don't like that!"
*crickets chirping*
1. If the Church gets real angry they can summon Sebelius before an ecclesiastical tribunal and maybe excommunicate her, how would that look for the Obama administration? 2. If Obama angers the church he could easily lose reelection in 2012.
