"Rubin said he has no problem with the idea of a franchise evolving its gameplay over time" -- So 10+ years of a franchise isn't enough time to evolve gameplay? Someone should tell Shigeru Miyamoto that he can only make 2D Mario games anymore.
@gamespotgunners @LeviHarris I totally agree. There are great games on there, but one or two AAA releases a year just isn't cutting it. I still play it at least once or twice a week (Hotline Miami is most excellent), but it has the capabilities to change what we perceive as handheld gaming and they're squandering it. I understand the amount of money and resources going into PS4 development and that's their flagship brand/system, but I really want to see the Vita get some love. Let's keep hoping.
I'm confused as to what the hold-up is. The Vita is in desperate need of some killer games because it's a powerful system with lots of cool capabilities, AND you've got one of the most mature, prolific designers basically not taking no for an answer to make a BIOSHOCK game on it and Sony is holding out? Maybe they want the people who purchased one to watch it collect dust and only play the excellent indie games (Guacamelee, Hotline Miami) released for it. Give me Bioshock in my hands already Sony!
At least they're taking their time with it and not rushing it out to meet a movie deadline. Instead opting to delay it to tie into a movie release. I kind of like that.
GTA, Red Dead, Civilization, Borderlands, Bioshock...Now that's a publisher who has their shit together. Maybe EA and Activision should rethink their milking and drying of the market.
I was at Best Buy the other day to buy Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen and what did I find? Not that game, but 50 or so -- all shooters, all derivative and mostly all garbage. Retailers aren't carrying games like they used to because they need to make room for 150 copies of Madden, NCAA, COD and other yearly repaint jobs. Thank the gods for companies like Take Two actually releasing solid games that I'm not ashamed to see stocked years after their release.
If, and only if we get the Tom Cruise from Collateral, would I be okay with him being the front-runner. From that list, though, I'd say Clive Owen or Ryan Gosling.
