If you own the content (i.e. purchased it with points) then you do not have to be connected to the internet at all to use it. The only time you do is if you have transfered the content to another console, and if this is the case all you have to do is transfer the license to the new console. Once this is done you wont have to be connected to live anymore to use it. I provided the web address in my previous post

Some of it is linked to the console but all of it is linked to the Gamertag. For instance, I downloaded the COD4 map pack on 1 account on my console but have access to it at all times on my main account (don't ask why, it's a long story). However, things like Xbox Live Arcade games are linked to the gamertag so you have to be on the account that you purchased it to have the full version. The games would still be there and accessible, but only in trial mode. It really depends on the game I think. Oblivion DLC is tied to the Gamertag as far as I can remember. Just remember though, if you do buy another 360 in the future and recover your Gamertag, don't forget to transfer your DRM for the DLC you purchased and redownload it. Doing so will allow you to use your DLC with out being connected to Xbox Live

[[QUOTE="Antaeus1991"][QUOTE="djtdon"]

wtf's up with it?

I rented gears 2 so I could put it on there and play it, now it just says put the disc in?

Well what the hell's the point of having it on your HD if you need the disc! :?:?:?:?:?:?:?:?:?:?

Lol, Can't believe you still don't know how the install feature works.

I almost wonder if the Xbox 360 is the first console (or only) a lot of people have bought or if the really this stupid because PCs have been doing this for a long.... long time. Even with the PS3 some games are installed (or partially) and you need the disc in. I don't really see why it doesn't make sense to have the disc in...

Judging by some of the comments seen on these forums, I think he really is this stupid. I mean WTF!!!! Does anybody really think that Microsoft, one of the richest companies in the world, have got that way by giving stuff away. Cos if they did what this user thought thay had done then thats exactly what they'd be doing. It makes sense, in some cases, to install a game to the HDD, just as it makes sense to have to have the disk in for anti piracy.

Got a launch 360 Pro thats still running perfectly, but I got an Elite on the day of launch that I got RROD on within 3 months. It was replaced however, but it's noisy as hell. My launch one runs nice and quiet but my newer Elite sounds like a jet plane even at the dashboard. I use my Elite more than the Pro though cos of the HDMI hook up to my 62" TV, where as my launch pro is in my bedroom hooked up to my SDTV

If you want to get online wirelessly with the 360 then you'll need the wireless adapter which are expensive so I'm doubting you'll be getting one of those (no offense intended):P If you really are looking for the cheapest deal then I would suggest getting the Arcade from the store. I wouldn't trust and second hand one from Ebay as far as I could throw it. Future 360's will be released with the newdashboard installed, but I would expect that to be a little way off as the current stock would have to be sold first. This is why Microsoft are likely to force at least first party games to have the new dashboard on future releases and maybe even some third party ones. At least on the exclusives. They included previous updates on game disks and demo disks from official magazines so expect them to again

Firstly, restart your router and try again. Doing this can sometimes resolve any conflict in asigning IP addresses. See if all your desktop, laptop or whatever else can connect then. If it does try an xbox live test and see what happens. You may need to get into your router config page and set a few things up. Without knowing the make/model of router you have and maybe what ISP you are using, you wont get much more help.

If you are going to buy one on ebay, the I'd look at the pro anyway. It will probably be cheaper than an arcade in the store. Bear this in mind though, it is likely that microsoft will force inclusion of the new dashboard(NXE) in future games. Probably first party games but it is likely to be there none the less. For now a memory card will suit your needs, but I really think you're going to need a HDD in a while. Check around for pro budles though, different stores have different exclusive bundles and they are really cost effective. And as previous posters have said, you may want to hook up to live later on in which case you will definately need one even if you only take the Silver Live account. Regarding Warranty, if you get a used one,so long as it hasn't been tampered or modded in any way, you will still get the 3yr extended warranty for RROD but the original 1 yr warranty will be void unless it is less than 1 yr old and comes with the original receipt of purchase. I would avoid getting a used one from Ebay unless it is a last resort. As with all electronic devices, you have no idea what it has been through before you get your hands on it. Get a new one, and my advice is to shop around for the best Pro bundle you can find. Good luck

This normally only occurs if the downloaded content is associated with a different console (or HDD). After I exchanged my old Core system for an Elite version I had to use the license transfer tool as well. After that all content is accessible offline as well. guthwulf_de
^^This^^ It only happens if you downloaded the content on a different console. The DRM is connected to both the console ID and the gamertag you used to buy the content. If you have a new console then head over to www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/drm/ (UK version but every country has there own version) and start the license transfer. It's very staight forward and only takes a few minutes, depending on how much content you have downloaded. Once completed you wont need to be signed in to Live to use the content
