@conorhat @McGregor I guess I am still mis-reading what you meant. All I see is a post about resolutions. Unless your point is frame rates, at which I agree. They are easily more important than high resolutions.
1080p didn't come shortly after 800x600. it went to 1280x768, then 1280x800, 1600x1200 (which is what I was playing in ~2002 when Farcry first hit the shelf). After that it was 1440x900. 1080p wasn't really hitting until the 360 launched.
Also, the 3DFX cards were the best on the market, but the Voodoo2 wasn't getting 100 fps on any games back in 1998. I had the Voodoo 3000 and it was probably doing about 50-60 fps on counterstrike. and that was at 1280x768 (which was actually the highest frames you got then).
@SpicaAntares @McGregor You and me both. My bro-in-law makes fun of me because I have a library of about 20 games I haven't even started. I just started Witcher 2. I should have picked a game that is shorter to kick off the holiday gaming binge.
@SpicaAntares @McGregor @evildead6789 Well, to be fair I haven't put dual cards in my PC...yet. My whole computer (minus monitor's and keyboard/mouse) was ~$500.The parts I bought back in March are now cheaper, and you could probably do it for ~$450. I hook my computer to my tv and play in big picture mode (with my 360 controller). I do have monitor's but they aren't required especially for the comparison to a console. keyboard and mouse is my preferred gaming method for shooters, so I use them with my monitor. You can get a good keyboard/mouse combo for $30-$50.
PC gaming isn't cheaper up front. It's cheaper in the long run.
@NoAngle Are people really getting bricked PS4's? I've heard people are already getting them (my bro-in-laws friend got his on Monday for some reason).
@kargion higher resolution doesn't make you a better player though. Not sure prettier images means you can play the game better. I played Zelda on my SNES without any issues...
